Halloween 2005
2005-11-01 13:10:42
Last night was awesome! I saw Alice Cooper at the Grove of Anaheim. Opening were Wednesday 13, the other band of the lead singer of the Murderdolls. I thought they were awesome, the little guitarist was making up for his diminuitive stature by really working the stage. It was cute. He and their bassist kept switching sides of the stage, and they had a very noticibale height difference, so when the guitarist changed the height of the bassist's mike, the bassist went back and changed it back like he was saying "mine!" The bassist was hott, and after the show I was gonna buy a t-shirt, and he was standing right there, so I talked to him & he signed my chest. He told me his name is "Kid". I was gonna give him my email, but I didnt wanna look like a total idiot. He liked my Halloween costume. More on that later. Apparently, his hair is not dreadlocks like it looks, it is held together by tiny rubber bands. He was cute and really nice. I also saw the lead singer, Wednesday 13, and I was freakin out, cuz I always stay late after concerts, and I have NEVER seen the band members come around from backstage. Tonight must have been different, because you could buy "meet & greet" passes for $400, & talk to the band. Cool.
After Wednesday 13, there was a pause. I was dying, cuz I was also super excited to see Alice Cooper. They were setting up the stage, and I was getting skeptical, because the only props were a severed plastic head and a trash can full of fencing foils. Then the giant coffin came on stage, and I knew it was gonna be good. I was right. They had the lights out, and they would start talking in low voices over the PA, and there were lights on certain parts of the stage, then Alice came on. He had his signiture cane and outfit, which was black leather pants and this sheer black top. He was walking on stage, the true showman, and singing and just really performing. He would ply a classic song, then a new song from the Dirsty Diamonds LP, which I have not heard yet. During the new songs, he was smart, cuz he did more theatrics, so people who hadnt heard them wouldnt feel bored. He played Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Feed My Frankenstein, Is It My Body, Under My Wheels, Steven (the Nightmare), Only Women Bleed, Poison, the Black Widow, and a bunch more. During Feed My Frankenstein, he had a bunch of fake severed body parts, and he assembled them in the coffin during the solo, but the body had no head. Later, they had a huge guillotine prop on the stage, and the had him sever his head, then hold up a really fake looking Alice Cooper head, which was placed by his daughter on the corpse. Then smoke, and Alice came out of the coffin. His daughter also did a couple dances, one where she did ballet and was covered in bloody makeup and he pantomimed slapping her, and one where she totally ripped on Paris Hilton, with this skimpy pink top that said "Paris" and she got "mauled" by her stuffed dog. (I hate Paris Hilton).
Alice's guitarist (he had 2) was really weird looking. I think I saw him somewhere before, but I cant remember where. He has a face like a toad, but a body like on muscle beach. He had like an 8 pack, like every muscle had been super toned, and then some. Alice's band was really cool. They play LOUD, and they so their own coreography, jumping in sync, standing right next to each other and really wailing on the guitar, and just really living it up on the stage. Their drummer had this totally awesome solo, where he just beat the fuck out of the drums, and the lights were changing at seizure enducing speeds. It was really amazing to watch, like I didnt even know that was possible to do live.
After the show (I had been jumping up & down the whole time to keep my knees from locking painfully), I could barely walk. I was suddenly so tired.
Now I talk about my costume. I bought fabric Saturday from Joanns. I totally blew my budget, but it was worth it. I went home, got a skirt to use the pattern from, and started cutting. I got half the skirt sewed by hand, but it took 40 minutes per foot, so there was no way I could have finished on time. I had to go to K-Mart to get a sewing machine & bobbins. It took the lazy salesgirls 30 minutes to do a price chaeck on the bobbins, which turned out to be just regular thread. So I went yesterday to Joanns agai to get a bobbin, and during the 2 hours it took me to thread the damn thing, I realized that the bobbin was in the machine already, the directions just didnt say so.
I was the white rabbit. I got it done, barely. Turned out different then I imagined, but good nonetheless.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

diablo! finally...
2005-10-28 02:23:42
Since I didnt want to wait for my birthday, I decided to givve myself an early presnt: the Diablo battle chest. THIS time, I promise myself I wont play for more than an hour at a time. At least not for the first week. So what if its only been one day and Ive already broken that promise? Ive gone thru a stress ball already and I only had that for 3 days. Seriously, if I can crack a rubber @ sign just by squeezing it, there's a problem. I'm thinking its school, and perhaps I'll take a semester off again in spring, and do some soul searching or travelling. Perhaps I'll try acting, or get a job as a roadie or what have you. I need a break from painting, thats for sure. I hate it, but perhaps it will eventually become my strength.
I also have to decide pretty soon what 4-year college to apply for. I already chose CalArts & Emily Carr, but based on my remidial skills with rendering objects in paint, perhaps I may need more skill-building classes. I LOATHE skill building classes. I'd prefer to take an independant study for Ceramics, I am learning fast how to build objects with my hands, even if I am a bit behind when it comes to wheel throwing. I did manage to build a sorry-looking cylander today, but I am proud of myself for making something that didnt collapse. I certainly need to continue practicing centering the clay on the wheel, and working with the clay when it becomes thinner, but I am progressing, which is the important thing.
Now on to less boring crap.
I LOVE diablo! I could play it for hours. I want to direct a movie about diablo, all action sequences. I want to draw and paint the characters for diablo. Ive been looking for an idea of an exercise to try out watercolor, perhaps that will be the thing to do.
I'm so excited about Halloween. I've been depressed lately, it'll be nice to relax and have some real fun for a change. At my college, a couple people were dressed up to promote a food sale for the school's radio station of something. This guy in a mask was trying to scare me. If I hadnt been talking to a girl in my class, I would have talked him up a bit. I dont know why, but guys in monster masks look good to me. Whatever.
Also, it's the Mexican day of the dead. Maybe I'll make some sugar skulls or something similar to celebrate. I dunno. I still have a bunch of pumpkins in my house from when there was a pumpkin patch in the front lawn, I'll definately be carving those, and perhaps getting some ghost pumpkins from Trader Joes and arranging them somehow. I have an idea for an installation using pumpkins. I could take pics and add them to my portfolio. I hope I get a camera for my birthday.
I started decorating my room for Halloween. I picked up 2 ceramic skeleton figurines from the art supply store when I was there, and set them on a table. I'm now finished.
Drunk on: nothing, but never eat the green apple dum dum pops. They taste like paint thinner.

Sometimes, I worry that I'll never find success as an artist because my stuff sucks balls. I hope this is not true. Perhaps I'll scan my new stuff (ha!) for the web. I doubt it, since my work is charcoal, which smears terribly, and my scanner is smaller than the scale I work in.
That being said, I'd sure like to get set up to sell prints on DeviantArt. Not that it'll happen, of course. Someday....
