JOURNAL: Big Big Truck (E K)

  • in that tenderness, I am floating away 2001-12-17 11:28:49 Forgot to mention that you can download demos of Platthand and JohnSpeed here:
    http://www.fontcraft.com/scriptorium/month.html

There's also a really nice turn-of-the-century looking Cooper variant.
  • Roll out the carpet and it better be red, and it better be long as the troubles in my head / gonna be livin' / one foot in the grave 2001-12-17 11:06:38 Mechaman: I'm glad you liked the Thumbnail Theatre. It was a lot of fun to write. I'm a bit surprised at the jokes that have gone un-gotten (does no one listen to the Violent Femmes anymore? ;_;), and some of the less-funny lines that have garnered a laugh.

Oh, speaking of which, new crap up on the Bebop site:
Quick parody MPEG, new totally gross fanart, new music comments & downloads. (Delicious Morcheeba. Mmmmm.) Made a new wallpaper, but it's going up at creativeimpulse.com rather than on my site.

I totally took advantage of Brett's cable modem this weekend when my computer was over at his house, and downloaded tons of MP3s off Audiogalaxy. Mostly rare Japanese stuff (I finally got some The Boom MP3s!) and music I hadn't heard in over ten years, like Danny Wilson and old Yes.
Considering doing an A!MG movie AMV to "Mary's Prayer".
Also got a bunch of Scha Dara Parr, Tokyo Ska Paradise, and a LOT of Shakkazombie. SHAKKAZOMBIE SO FUCKING OWNS. I still haven't been able to see "Tainted Donuts", but I got "Shiroi Yami No Naka", which really reminds me of Beck's "One Foot In the Grave", only with KICKASS POWER. Pa da da dada da da da da!
Got some old Psy-S, Spitz, and Masaharu Fukuyama, too.

    Random Thoughts:

Wonder if anyone's ever made a music video with music by Ladysmith Black Mambazo... Jungle Taitei movie? Hrmm.

TEHANU's going to have a new doujinshi for sale at Fuyucomi. I hope I can get a copy... need to write Yuri about it (as best I can, anyway). Doesn't it look GORGEOUS, though? Damn, her art's sooo good...

I hope this one goes lighter on the :ahem: "undercurrents" than her last book. I'm not a big fan of shounen(seinen?)-ai... though there is a certain unintended hilarity about it. Once you get past the Sideshow-Bob-esque shudder-of-revulsion factor.
God, I sound like such a 'phobe. I'm really not - it's just that particular character pairing seriously makes my head spin. And not in a good way.
Aw hell, what am I saying - I'd read a 50-page story about Jet watching paint dry if Yuri drew it. (Art... so... good... T_T)

3 hot toddies + IRC = interesting evening.

I'm in love with Platthand. Greatest weathered script EVER. (Used it on the new wallpaper - the one that's not on my site - along with JohnSpeed, Fallen Thyme, and Slurry.)

    EZBoard sucks rocks.

Why does burnt coffee smell like B.O.? O_o

Best quotes of the day, one from the Toastyfrog Forums, one from Lileks:
"Mmmm, White Castle. It's like a poor man's Krystal. And that's like saying that a turd is a poor man't dirt clod."

"Hats off to everyone! Well, no. Hats off to Most Everyone. No; people don’t wear hats. Well, then: Hats symbolically referred to with a doffing gesture using the thumb and index finger, if the recipient performs a socially useful or mildly diverting function.
Yes, that’s a slogan that will catch on."

Got the Gallery book for my aunt and uncle for Christmas.

OK, OK, one more quote and then I'll shut up:
Mr. Lileks slams an editorial on the war:

"'“True, our economy was never the same. Undeniably, it replaced an American Century with postmodern alienation and ironic detachment.'
Yes, when the historians tote up the lasting effect of the Vietnam war, they’ll conclude it lead directly to Spy magazine and Seinfeld."

  • so this is christmas 2001-12-15 16:49:52 And for what it's worth, KZ, here's a hug:
    {{{hug}}}

    please forgive the cheesy cyber-ism ^^;
  • Falling, falling, falling down 2001-12-15 15:50:08 Oh my god.
Brett's new video is so going to rock. I haven't been this excited about someone else's project since Hsien showed me his in-progress cut of Bachelorette.
  • And if our cells are our destiny / I want to be free of biology 2001-12-14 17:58:11 New stuff at BBT this week -
    New WPOC: http://www.big-big-truck.com/anime/comic18.html
New Bebop crap: wallpaper, top image, added an Oekaki board.

I've decided I want a big white suit like David Byrne wore in "Stop Making Sense".

Brett came by for lunch today and we got on the topic of AMVs. It sounds silly, but I'm still kind of embarrassed to talk about fandom-y things out in non-fan public.
He's planning on doing his first couple of solo projects soon. One's going to seem a bit similar to one of ErMaC's vids at first, but I think it will stand well on its own because the song and feel are so different. The other is just plain silly.
I'm probably getting started on my Yoko Kanno project later this month, or after UshiCon. (Nope, not using Bebop music.) Also have a dance project in the works.

"8.6.82" is almost done. It's phenomenally, appallingly stupid.
    Brett's here!
    bye.
