  • We got a groovy thing goin' baby, got a groovy thing 2002-01-04 21:32:05 JSnackpants: You work with JACON? Thankyouthankyouthankyou so much. I was SO surprised (very pleasantly so) when Brett gave me the news today. I hope I can make the invite worth your trouble. Please let me know if you'd like me to do any artwork for JACON, or whatever...
    I'll try to have a new video finished to show, too ^_^

    Speaking of art, I'm pleased with the new sketch I did for the Bebop site today... it looks more like Spike is adjusting his dentures than rubbing his jaw in pain, though.
    (Pensively adjusting his dentures?)
    Original sketch - http://www.big-big-truck.com/bebop/spikefightsketch.gif
    Top version - /bebop/kohdadtop.gif (i like this inverted look best)
    Colored version - /bebop/spikefightcolorsm.jpg
    He looks sorta vampiric there... scary!

    For some reason, ever since I installed my CD burner, CDEX causes my computer to crash... Gonna download Audiograbber... see you guys later.
  • I was your dad / now I'm your mom 2002-01-04 16:22:58 "...Words fail me. I thought about writing this review entirely in bowel movements, but the logistics fell through and I didn’t want to order a new keyboard. Still, it might be the only way to do this “special” justice."

    Oh, GreyDuck, THANK YOU. I know of this pain, for I have SEEN THIS. ALL TWO EXCRUCIATING HOURS OF IT. Watched it with my then-boyfriend our freshman year in college.
    I am NOT KIDDING when I say I'd much rather sit through "Showgirls" again.

    Wonderful article. Thanks for the link!

    Just went out for a bowl of Tom Yum Gai... my lips are still ON FIRE. You know it's good Thai food when your vision clears after you eat it.

    Obligatory CB links, which I haven't posted in a while:

    * BARSOOM - http://203.174.72.114/barsoom/
    Good God, this person's art is WAY too good. I saw the new link at Asari's Warehouse, and followed it... T_T Gahh. The limited color palette pics are just astounding.
    I still don't know what "A Grand Pulses" means, though.

    * Slippery Brain - http://www.geocities.co.jp/AnimeComic-White/4947/
    Their pictures always crack me up. The top one is new. I don't know what the fixation is with Spike having doggie ears, but it's kinda cute. Unless you think about it too much, and then it's just scary.
    There's a little bit of... disturbing content on this site, by the way. You might not want to poke around *too* much here o_o;;

  • and I / don't worship Satan / No! Not like Shirley and Steve! 2002-01-04 10:26:37 ---BITCHING AHEAD---

    Well, last night was one of the most humiliating and awful nights I've had in quite a while. Like, since junior high.
    It started off with a trip to the gym - not the usual one I go to, but the branch by Brett's house. I am never going there on a weekday again. God. I walked in, and suddenly it was like I was in Beverly Hills or some shit. Every woman in the locker room was either naturally or surgically flawless. I started to change clothes, and this perfect size 2, 5'8", tan, blond porn-star looking girl kind of gave me this grossed-out side glance... well excuse me for daring to have body fat, asshole. But I was pretty uncomfortable so I went and changed in the shower.
    Working out wasn't any more fun. The gym was packed, and it's not terribly spacious to begin with... I got on an elliptical trainer between this woman with a cheekbone job and a boob job, and this buff dude in a wifebeater. Only magazine to read was Town & Country, which is also known as Tons Of Pictures Of Shit No Sane Person Would Buy, and Oh Don't You Want To Spend Christmas In The Hamptons Dahling.
    It's hard to describe exactly why this was so awful for me. It's not a traumatic event or anything... I guess it was just like I was back in highschool again. It's no fun being the ugliest person in a room full of perfect people who look like they never have to use the bathroom, or get stuff stuck between their teeth. And knowing you're TOTALLY NOT WELCOME there. Puke.

    After we left the gym, some other really humiliating stuff happened that I'm not going to talk about here (nothing earthshattering, everyone's OK, no biggie), but suffice it to say I went home thisclose to tears.

    Got home, pissed because I was embarrassed and because I was running an hour late due to the other stuff, turned on the computer and tried to rip an MP3 for the Bebop site and e-mail some Ushicon graphics files to Greg... and my computer freezes up repeatedly after multiple restarts. So I start a (badly needed) defrag on my C drive, headed for the shower to wash away the Bitter Pain of Having My Ass Handed To Me By Life (tm)...
    ...get out of the shower 20 minutes later and my HD is 15% done defragging. It took about 6 hours, I guess (finished while I was asleep).

    Also, was supposed to renew my lease & pay rent yesterday but the dorks in the office closed 1/2 an hour early so I couldn't get the paperwork, and so my rent's late.

    And the dishwasher's still busted.

    So I'm generally just irritated and depressed.
    Really Smart Solution: Licking my wounds by drinking bourbon and reading old Newtypes until I fall asleep at 1 am. (I never claimed to be the brightest crayon in the box...)
    So right now, I look and feel my absolute best, you betcha.

    One really good thing happened last night, though - 1337Bumpus (my new cat, yes his name is 1337H4x0R Bumpus, shut up) has finally started getting brave about visiting new areas of my apartment, and came into my bedroom last night and cuddled with me as I had my little self-destructive booze-and-anime-mag pity fest.
    Somehow, even a really terrible day is better when you have a kitty purring and making bread on you.

    So I'm happy again.

    In other news, I'm pretty sure I've plugged Lex's art here before, but I'm gonna do it again.

    HOW FREAKING GIANTROBOBIGOCOOL is that?? I'd give my arm for her kind of creativity. But not my drawing arm, because then I'd have all that creativity and couldn't do anything with it.
    And that would be sad.
  • That flute playing big brown pig's a gnikcuf hootie 2002-01-03 10:28:55 Mechaman: Isn't Boogiepop Phantom cool? I saw an episode or two at the anime club here and was really intrigued. It's got that chilly-but-fun feel that I liked so much about Twin Peaks.
    Glad you enjoyed the Christmas wallpaper!

    Working on a new wallpaper (Ed & Ein) and some kiriban art (for FrogServo, who got hit #45678 on the site). The latter is coming along better than the former.
    OK, it's up:

    In AMV news (such as it is), I don't think my Lou Reed idea is going to work :( It would probably end up pushing past creepy territory and just make people giggle uncomfortably.
    (Odd to think that I've got two slow-paced, intentionally disturbing videos planned.)
