JOURNAL: Big Big Truck (E K)

  • blowin' up your balloon / playin' ya like a bassoon / but if I only knew / where we were drivin' to / I wouldn't have let you fill my tank! 2002-02-18 15:06:31 Staying home from work again today.
Was going to go in, called my boss and there's not much for me to do, and I'm still a bit under the weather so... home it is. Which is good, because I have a persistent sinus headache that Advil and DayQuil are just not taking care of.

Trying to get some stuff done today - more freelance work, more paring & trimming on the Bebop site, more kiriban that I'm behind on... bleh. My head hoits.
Kiriban aren't as fun to do when they just keep coming. I started spacing them out by 10,000, then 11,111, then 25,000... I think the 100k will be the last request one that I do. It's a cute scene, and I'm having fun drawing it, even if it's not turning out.
    Like, AT ALL.
Man, everything I draw lately just sucks ass. I'm in a real slump again.

I'm starting to get discouraged about stuff. I'm afraid I'm going to lose the editing bug before I can get my KoHD DVD (or worse yet, I'll get the editing bug after everyone and their brother has the KoHD DVD and is churning out AMVs to it).

Went to the comic store yesterday and picked up Stray Bullets #23 and DK2 volume 1. Stray Bullets was particularly chilling - you really get a deeper view into how Little Joey got as fucked up as he was in Vol. 1.
As despicable as Spanish Scott is, he's one of my favorite characters in SB. He's not likable, he just seems more real than most of the rest of the cast.
Reading that comic makes me glad I got out of my hometown. Drugs, drinking, sex... overindulging not for fun, but in order to forget the pointlessness of life and the inevitability of death...

I wonder what happens to people that keeps them tied in a place where they feel trapped. One of the greatest comforts in my life is knowing that if everything falls apart, I can pick up and move to a new place; start over. Maybe that's why I rent instead of buying. Maybe that's part of why I don't want kids.

DK2 was pretty impressive, although it seems like Frank Miller's art has gone downhill a bit since Sin City: TYB. He's still great with torsos, but there were several instances where I noticed he was drawing heads WAAAAY too big in proportion to the body, esp. with Catgirl and the newscaster. I also still prefer his black and white work, but the roughness of his inks looks great here. I'm so digging on the Flash and the Atom, too.

Last night Greggo, Aleks, Brett, and I had a Giant Robo-thon - watched episodes 4-7. God, I love me some Giant Robo. ::pets die-cast Robo model next to monitor:: Even the cheesy English dub.
Oh! Speaking of which, we realized that David Lucas does NOT in fact play Genya - whoever's playing Genya is about half an octave higher and is more nasal... but he DOES play (get this) Tetsugyu! Yup, that's Spike/Roger/Onizuka's voice rumbling and roaring on the screen. What a hoot! We all noticed it at the same time: in episode 5 when Ginrei and Tetsugyu are talking in the cave, and his voice drops at the end of his sentences, you can really hear it.
I also think whoever played Youshi was in the Tenchi dub. Also, Issei's VA played one of the villains in Catnapped. Whoever played Taisou also does Wolfwood in Trigun... and one of the Magnificent Ten (the professor-looking gentleman with the white beard and mustache) has had a lot of narrative roles since then, too.

    AAAAH! I can't DRAW TODAY!!!

  • I'm walkin' to new Orleans / walkin' to New Orleans... 2002-02-17 14:31:20 So naturally when I have all this short-deadline freelance work lined up, the USB cable comes detached from my tablet. Great.
Feeling a bit better today. Still have a head full of rocks...
  • Roll on through the heartlands till the sun has left the sky 2002-02-17 00:24:01 Castor Troy, that's BEAUTIFUL. I laughed and made my throat hurt again. Darn ya!
  • in my dream the pipes were playing / in my dream I lost a friend 2002-02-16 22:03:43 Went home yesterday at 3:30, got in bed at 4pm, slept till noon.

I had a truly bizarre fever dream that I may or may not share here - it was like being in a David Lynch movie for half an hour.

Aleks is having a birthday party tonight but I am feeling cruddy so I'm just hanging out here. Gonna try and get some commission work done if I quit feeling dizzy.

Watched "Robot Carnival" for the first time in a few years this afternoon.

    Uhh, what else.

Got some cool gift art from Asari today, and uhh, slept some more.
Also finished "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", which was EXCELLENT.

Working on a wallpaper and a logo for the Texas Health Institute. Meh, what an exciting Saturday.
But it sure beats lying in bed with a 104 degree fever...
  • Take me home, what a wonderful way to go 2002-02-15 14:39:14 MCWagner: O_O I hope you paid equal attention to both of them.

FuckaDUCKery. Metropolis is opening tonight, and I'm coming down with the flu JUUUUuuuuust slow enough that I can type now but I'll feel like shit but the time the movie starts.
I'm going to send out some print jobs, then go get some pho ga, and then go home. :P

And here I thought I'd make it through winter 2001-02 without the flu. I spoke too soon.
    *sigh*

BTW, Brett got me Dan the Automator's new CD "Lovage: Music to make Love to Your Old Lady By"... it owns me.
If only this had been out when I was working on my Bebop vids this past summer. It would have been all about Jet & Spike reenacting "Herbs, Good Hygiene, and Socks".

    I'm scared about that documentary.
