JOURNAL: Big Big Truck (E K)

  • God bless the Infesticons! Fuck tha Majesticons! 2002-03-11 15:36:17 NOT A GOOD ART DAY.

Tried to do some gift art for Fata, and it just wound up being ASS. I like the lighting, but not much else. Still, I'm pleased that I tried using rust as a secondary highlight color.

On the other hand, the SBP cover is coming along well.
I'd MUCH rather have it this way than the other way around.

  • I don't dig a lot of the establishment / all your ideas and values / they may work for you but they don't all work for me! 2002-03-09 16:04:10 AbsoluteDestiny: Oh, you know you got it. (wockachickawockachickawockachicka ba da da daDUMMMM)

    Only up till Sunday afternoon!
  • ...and no one understands him but his wo-maaan... 2002-03-09 14:13:31 turboneko: CONGRATULATIONS!! That's so exciting. Best of luck on your upcoming move!

Was in a good and energetic mood when I left work yesterday, so I decided it was time to do something I hadn't done in ages - go SHOPPING. And despite being out about $150 now, I'm glad I did.
Hit Urban Outfitters (a place I wouldn't normally touch - I mean, $88 for freakin' JEANS? Yeah, right!) and got two new shirts for $10 and a nice pair of hoop earrings (only good thing about the 80's)... then hit Manju's and Legs Diamond and got a pair of sunglasses, a new skirt, and the dress I will wear at Anime Central.

OH LORDY. This dress 0wnz all the rest of my wardrobe. Fire-engine red, spaghetti straps, low low low draped neckline, swirly sparkle pattern sprinkled over the fabric, 3/4 length with irregular hemline... Joe, if you're reading this, bring some bacon to ACen and you can COOK IT ON MY SHOULDERS.
The best thing about this dress is that since it's low cut all around, I don't have to worry about putting my hair up in a french twist or anything time-consuming like that.
I just have to get some matching shoes now. Nothing will work with this dress except matching red stilettos.
GOD, this dress ROCKS. I look 5 years younger and 10 pounds lighter in it.

After that, I headed to Waterloo with the sole aim of buying "Tragedi In the Mekng" and "Rei Momo", but neither could be found. Instead, I wound up with the following:

Boards of Canada - Peel Session
10,000 Maniacs - In My Tribe
    Fila Brazillia - Anotherlatenight
The Avalanches - Since I Left You

(Heh - "one of these things is not like the other...")

and the BEST BLIND PURCHASE I HAVE EVER MADE,
Various Artists - Cinemaphonic 2: Soul Punch: A Selection of British Library Music 1970-1976.
I saw it sitting on the rack and thought, why the hell not? Popped it in as I was going down 360 towards home, and OH MY GOD. This music is like... it's freaking Isaac Hayes meets Lupin III.

Oh... oh maaaan. Oh man oh man oh man, this music rocks. No. Scratch that. It doesn't ROCK, it PIMPS. It STRUTS. It climbs into a monstrous Caddy and oozes down the backstreets of LA, brown Burberry scarf flapping in the wind and smoke from the Black & Milds trailing out the windows.
I desperately want to do something AMV-related with this, but if I did, I'd have to digitally paint huge sideburns, mustaches, and aviator glasses onto all the characters.

    Oh God, the humanity.

The Avalanches album is pretty sweet, too. I haven't finished listening to the rest.

At the end of the evening, I suddenly remembered that I'd forgotten to buy ink pens.

Anyway, I'll try to put up a Cinemaphonic MP3 for you guys later this weekend.
Off to run errands, clean, and do all that boring "work" stuff.

  • Another Elvis / will not come along / he got wasted but it's alright / and everything is finite 2002-03-08 14:30:59 GOD I have NOTHING TO DO AT WORK today. RAR!!
Biding my time till I can go shopping for a new dress and for some new Rapidos. Still seeking advice as to what sort of nib would be smoothest on Strathmore heavyweight bristol... if you know, email me ...

::leans back in chair, lolls head around side to side, and groans::
    So. Fucking. Bored.

I am totally *heart*ing SBP so far. The job's going to be tough, but GOOD LORD do I love it when a client gives me prompt, useful feedback on my work.

Made this as a prezzie for Dana today - not everyone will get it, but the right people will get it:

S'funny - all my original artwork is going into weeks-long freelance projects... drawing Bebop crap is like taking a break from having to actually plan and think about stuff.
Rest assured that within 3 weeks I will be putting up two hugely detailed original CGs... I just gotta get paid for them first.

God, it's so sad... there's so little to do at work here (what with the beginning-of-semester rush being over and the end-of-semester rush not yet begun) that I'm actually working harder in the evenings than I do in the day. Getting a new project is like "WOOHOO! WORK! STUFF TO DO!!"

On the other hand, the relative abundance of freelance work leads me to think that my dream of having my own design and illustration studio by age 30 might not be so insane after all.
Well, it's still insane, but that's not to say that it won't happen.

    Aokakesu:
I really owe you one. It was your posting the link to BBT on the animeondvd.com forums that got the publishing rep to look at my work and commission me for this book cover job.
I'll try to scrawl out something for you soon. :3 Who's your favorite anime character?

    AbsoluteDestiny:
Hee! I was jamming out to "What Planet is This" (the short version) in traffic on the way home yesterday. NOTHING more frustrating than being stuck in bumper-to-bumper jams when music like that is playing. I had to turn it off and put in David Byrne.

Considering changing to "The Civil Wars". Wouldn't it be screwed up if to do my vid to "Amnesia" instead?
Also thinking about taking bits from the songs I'm thinking of using and piecing the instrumental parts together (they all have the same tempo anyway.) Drums courtesy of U2, chorus from Public Enemy, guitar break from Beck... might be kinda sweet.

Heh. I need to stop smoking so much crack >_<
