JOURNAL: Big Big Truck (E K)

  • ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT 2002-03-18 09:19:20 MP3 of Unbelievably kickass song in subject header will be linked from here soon. You will find out what it sounds like when music gets so fat that it busts its pants seam.

Back in Austin again. Had a good weekend in Dallas with Bruce, Mundee, Ed, and Danno. Went shopping at Nordstrom's with Mundee... I realized that the last time I went shopping with another woman was three years ago! I'd forgotten how much fun it was to be girly - which in my world means picking up all the ugly shirts off the rack and making up snarky stage dialogue about them.
Got a pair of strappy black heels to go with the dress I bought for central - also got some sandals to replace my old nasty ones, and some ASS KICKER Steve Madden boots. Mid-calf, black leather, 2" platform sole w/ big chunk heel, metal studs around seams... these are FREAKING SWEET BOOTS. I'm so wearing them with a black mini very, very soon.
Also got some new pants, a black skirt, and a couple of new shirts.

Anime Central is impending... as is the deadline for the book cover. (CRAP!! 12 days!?) Looks like I won't have any fun goofy vacation time for a while.

Beginning to wonder if I will even have an AMV for Jacon. If freelance work keeps coming in, I may not.

    Uhh, and stuff.
  • All the women tear their blouses off and the men they dance in the polka dots and it's partner found and it's partner lost and it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops.... 2002-03-15 21:50:46 Random thoughts on a Friday night:

    - Worst part of CGing: refining/cleaning line art by hand. Puke.
    - Client: "Yeah, can we have a color version 2 weeks early?" Me: "Uhh... NO."
    - I should be packing right now. Going to Dallas to see Bruce & Mundee this weekend.
    - SXSW is going on this week and there is music everywhere. Seriously, on my way home from work each night this week, I passed no less than four live performances. (None of which I had the time, money, or connections to attend. See: freelance work)
    - Tip for guys: making negative comments about other girls' bodies to a girl you're trying to impress = not a good idea.
    - BIG CHARGE of the day (and this makes me so happy): I got a random email from Julie Dillon complimenting me on the new Vincent picture. I mean, JULIE DILLON. Wow. It really meant a lot to me.
    - Valuable lesson learned today: If you have a hunch that Japanese visitors to your website will be running it through Amikai, DON'T use the slang term "dork". o_o;;
    - Found Most Disturbing Thing Ever on the web night before last. Rys, if you're reading this, I now have *one* ace in my deck, and will use it only as a last-resort punishment on those who need it.
    - Avalanches CD causes Mac OS9 to crash. WTF?
    - Going Jared Route = maybe not such a bad idea.
    - Lost a pound this week. w00t
    - I normally dun like angstygothmusic, but "Hurt" is a damn fine song.
    - A bit nervous about meeting folks at Central. I think I'm a fair sight more boring in person than in writing.
    - Most bizarre way to wake up: 1337H4X0R claw-kneading my shoulder in time with the NPR Morning Edition music. (I seem to have been paired with the right cat; I leave my ink pens and Prismas lying all over the floor and he just loooves playing with them.)

(You can see why I was so thrilled about that email. Her Cirque Du Soleil images are just mindblowing. And she uses PHOTOSHOP 5. Not Painter. Boggle!)

Holy shit, this guy is GOOD. Ghlaglglgl. And no wonder; he's done work for Newtype magazine and various other gaming companies. The textures on his monochrome works are just delicious.

  • All those lines and circles, a mystery to me 2002-03-14 18:48:37 Sigh.

    I just made myself a martini in my stainless steel shaker... but the cold from the ice made the steel contract and now I can't get the shaker open ;_;
  • You played robbery with insolence and I played the blues in twelve bars down lover's lane / but you never had the intelligence to use the twelve keys hangin' offa my chain 2002-03-14 14:31:34 Had some bizarre computer trouble this morning. Had to boot from the OS9 disk, then boot from a Zip, then run Norton DD, then boot from ths OS9 disk again, then reconfigured all my extensions... bleh.

When all was said and done, I was finally able to upload some gift art for ASARI that I did yesterday evening. Vincent, of course. He looks a bit girly, but I really like how the subdued colors and the texture on the beard came out. (Mmmm, beards...) I had no real plan when I started this picture, I just drew it...

Done in Painter 5 over about 2 hours, I guess. (Odd thought for the day: when sending gift art to someone in Japan, do you date it according to your time or theirs? I went ahead and did the former...)

I've really moved away from cel-style shading when doing character art. It just feels so unnatural. Going to be tough to do it this weekend >_<
Speaking of which, the design's been approved, so if ya wanna peek:

The robot totally sucks a whole lot of ass; I'm redoing it.
Catgirl, samurai, robot, mascot, Spiky-Haired Hero In Red Jacket... *sigh* Jesus. Drafting this has reminded me why I watch very little anime these days.

Finally sat down and listened to the Avalanches CD all the way through - it's great. 4 out of 5, were I rating it with stars or thumbs or some other such cute little icon.
"Electricity" reminds me of Macross Plus, though due to its lack of a climax or resolution (OMG MUSICAL YAOI LOLOLOL!!!1), it's not really AMV-able. I may upload an MP3 for you guys, though :-)

Walked down to the TNEH for my required weekly allowance of Thai noodle soup around 3 today. (I think this diet thing might work after all... I am addicted to that stuff, and it's pretty healthy. ) It's officially WARM today. About 85 degrees. Came distressingly close to breaking a sweat, then realized that it is, after all, mid-March in Central Texas, and shouldn't it have been this warm 3 weeks ago? In a Miles Davis-and-heat-induced charitable but addlepated state I accidentally gave a homeless guy a wrong bill. Oops.

    Oh well.

(This guy is really, REALLY good. Honestly. Reminds me of Philip Burke.)
But Mr. T wandering in the Elysian fields? It doesn't get any better than that.

<<snipped lengthy and foolish dissertation on Cool Bald Guys, pasted it to a .txt file>>

    Good night!
