JOURNAL: Big Big Truck (E K)

  • So, so you think you can tell / heaven from hell / blue skies from rain 2002-05-29 13:46:37 If you want to read a long and weird journal entry, go here: www.big-big-truck.com/blather.html

Otherwise, here's what I'm up to today:
    - get money for JACON
    - get medicine for JACON
    - try to decide if it's worth getting prints of the "Steadman Samba" pic made for JACON, then probably get prints made for JACON. Would anyone buy them? :/
    - work out
    - laundry so I can pack for JACON
    - pack for JACON

...I just wanted to see how much I could use JACON all in caps in one post. It's kind of fun.

Flash used for good, not evil. Also, sweet flyer designs. Makes me *heart* Adobe Illustrator all over again.

When Bad Design Gets Intentional. Right down to the gratuitous grids and aliased metallic text. I LOVE IT.

AD: The Bebop CD BOX? You really think so? The design kinda freaks me out... I mean, FLORAL PRINT on the mini-cd case. But damn, if that picture of the crew in gangster garb isn't the effing sweetest thing on paper... err, cardboard... right now. Jet in swanky suit = always good.
I guess I was just expecting something big and bold along the lines of the DVD covers. I'm also sorta freaked that they're using a Machine-Kaiser hybrid font for the front. (NOOOO!!! Give us back that gorgeous Acklin Bold Distressed variant!! *cries*)

Bruce and I had a similar conversation while waiting for Episode II to start this Saturday. The sentence, "Man, the Futura family rules!" was actually spoken aloud.

    Use the Font, Luke.

Had a lot of fun at Anime Spring Break this weekend, which is basically a dozen friends from TX and the Southeast getting together to drink beer, go to MASSIVE MEXICAN FLEAMARKET (where I found a VHS copy of "Safe Men", the best movie ever), laugh at old 50's health class filmreels, and do a bunch of stupid crap all completely unrelated to anime. Like watch a scrawny 6 week old kitten totally make BobDog her bitch.
Oh, and Star Wars. (AAAH MATRIX RELOADED PREVIEW AAAH AAAH AAH PANT PANT GRRAARRRRR R0XX0R MY S0XX0R)

Shawna took some good pictures and sent me a .zip last night. There's a nice one of her, Ed, and Bob, and some freakiness from Love & War in Texas (the restaurant we went to in Plano before the show), and one of me with wet hair, holding Little Bat (the kitten mentioned earlier). Maybe I'll post them tonight. They're on my machine at home.

Three days till Brett and I leave for JACON. Unfortunately, I began this training program a bit too recently to feel comfortable wearing shorts or a swimsuit, so looks like a sweaty weekend. Meh, whatever, flares are fine.
On the other hand, though, my delts and lats are finally popping up again to say hello after a leave of absence (coughigotlazycough), so that's cool.

Gonna try and get prints made to sell at the Art Show.

Oh - Forgot to mention that there was a used CD extravaganza at the fleamarket, and in addition to "Safe Men" I picked up:
    - Marta Sebestyen's original "Muszikas" album (woohoo! Full-length recordings of "Teremtes" and "Fuvom Azenekem" at last!!)
    - Peter Gabriel "Shaking the Tree" (DELICIOUS)
    - Grateful Dead "Skeletons in the Closet" (I'm not a big Dead fan, but I like nearly all the songs on this one, particularly "Saint Stephen")
    - Toshinobu Kubota - "The Baddest" (Hilariously bad Japanese R&B)
    - Tom Ze - The Best of Tom Ze (funfun Brazilian dadaist pop, compiled by David Byrne himself... has that song "Augusta, Angelica e Consolacao" song I like so much... haven't listened to the rest of it yet.)

Speaking of DB-produced stuff, here's a band I've been wanting to plug here for a while.

Try out the .ra samples, particularly "Go" off "Grand Opening". The version on "Sacred Cow" was used in a car ad recently, but I like the original better.

Reviewed the Black Heaven/Avalanches video this morning. Good stuff, good stuff.
  • way above us the desert snow / white wind blows / i hold the light / the light of strength that pulls me through the fear 2002-05-24 16:20:29 Oh, I forgot to mention while I was caught up in my MP3 RAMPAGE that I finally found a song for my KoHD video. (Not the one quoted in the subj head)

I'm so going to get lynched for making that video. No one is going to like it. Except me.

Why? It's got a bossa beat. I was originally going to use it for Perfect Blue, but... eh. I'll have to cut one line of the chorus and an organ solo, but the "na na na / na na na, na na na" part I can just SEE in my head.

    Yeah yeah, watch this one fail like the rest ^^;

  • watch me unravel / i'll soon be naked 2002-05-24 15:13:06 GAlbright: D'oh, you're right about the Weezer thing. My bad.
I don't own any Weezer albums - they're one of those bands that I hear and go, "mmm, that's nice," then forget about when I'm at Waterloo. I should get the album with "Only in Dreams" on it, though. I've adored that song ever since seeing Kwasek's video.

Bowler: Like I said, not so much taboo as just not a good idea. Sigh. It is regrettable, non?

MP3s are down now. Hope they were enjoyed.
