JOURNAL: Big Big Truck (E K)

  • 2002-06-30 13:58:09 Left review for ATChang's "still". More people should see this video.
Still pulling source for FLCL vid; haven't decided on a song yet.
  • if you want it / you can have it / but you gotta learn to reach up there and grab it   2002-06-28 17:21:52 Heh - the site went back up in time for me to say bye.

I'm not storming off in a huff; I'm actually in a good mood.

I just realized that a lot of the stuff I was reading in the forums and in the chat was negative and disheartening to the point where I was reluctant to even make music videos any more. I became more worried about not pissing anyone off, or making sure to entertain others, and I forgot that the primary reason I got into AMV editing was because I HAD FUN DOING IT.
In other words, it was intimidating ... I got so concerned with doing it _right according to everyone else_ that I forgot to do it _the way I wanted_.

So, you probably will not see me in the forums here much anymore. I'm tired of the fighting and I noticed that I was getting sucked into it.

I will probably not post much in this journal, other than progress notes on my new work. I'll still be posting my new videos and leaving opinions on ones I've seen, but I won't be hanging around the .org much other than that.
Everyday stories and such that I would usually post here will go in my blog on big-big-truck.com.

Also, unless I churn out something I'm especially fond of, and want lots and lots of people to see, I will no longer be competing in any AMV contests at conventions. I would like my work to be seen (and hopefully enjoyed), but not in a compete-for-awards environment. I don't want my video work to go "up against" anyone else's.
(Kinda like how I enjoy playing soccer and volleyball, but only when we're just horsing around and no one's keeping score.)

I will still show this year's work at my & Hsien's AWA panel (including some goofiness and random wacky video snippets born out of frustration), and will probably have some noncompeting entries in Expo.

Now, I'm off to go remember how fun it was to make music videos back when I was just asking, "Am I having fun?" rather than "Will anyone like this?" "Is this overused?", "Is this too maudlin?" "Will I get booed at AWA?", "Will this piss everybody off and get me hung by my toenails?" etc.

Got a brand new 100GB hard drive full of new .avi files and a huge CD collection ready for plunder... and a lot of editing ahead of me :3
See y'all at AWA; hopefully I'll have something to show for all this! ^_^

Phade, version 2.0 looks WONDERFUL. You've done a great job. Thanks so much for all your hard work.

Bowler, AD, Hsien, check your email. ;-)

Lastly and most importantly, all y'all editors out there, if you have an idea you want to work on, WORK ON IT. If you have a video you want to make, MAKE IT. Don't let anyone else stop you from flexing your creative muscles. Go for it!!

  • 2002-06-25 17:06:55 ::shudder:: that mini-CD is PAINFUL. The only good thing I can say about it is that the instrumentals on the Tank remix sound like the Lupin III "Funny Walk in Old Fashion" remix. Yes, that's the positive point. It just goes down hill from there.

    It hurts, mommy, it hurts.

They could have released so many other tracks than this T_T

Sometime soon I'll post about the cool-ass dream I had where I was a pirate.
