JOURNAL: Big Big Truck (E K)

  • You ain't seen nothing like it, not since the Civil War... 2003-03-25 09:42:27 Started rendering a low-quality .avi for editing at midnight last night (going to try using AD's .d2v -> .avs -> .avi -> .avs method)... woke up this morning and it was about 3/5 done. Bur. It's only 3GB, so wtf?
    Oh yeah, old-ass computer.

    Meh.

When working with a single anime, I usually try to have a handful of songs available to choose from in case the main song I've picked doesn't work out. I haven't found any backup songs for this one yet... maybe "Shaking the Tree"?

Gave Supreme Beings of Leisure another listen... Verdict: the underperforming, apathetic love child of Morcheeba and Sneaker Pimps, temporarily tutored by Tricky. Not necessarily good, but not bad either, and better than average dance material.

  • Oh supergirl, you'll be my supermodel, although your pants are 'round your ankles... 2003-03-21 10:51:15 So apparently DVD2AVI doesn't like to do .vob->AVI (24fps force film, RGB colorspace) conversions in Win98. Great. Takin' the hard drive back to Brett's place.
Will I EVER get any editing done at home? Blah. I mean, my machine is slow-ass and old and can't handle DVDs, but it can run Premiere, at least...!
(First person to suggest I go drop a 2 months' salary on a new computer in order to solve this problem wins a punch in the cock.)

Just gotta keep looking at the bright side: at least I'm working with an anime and a song that I adore, and it doesn't call for anything fancy-shmancy in After Effects.

Of course, this means that this video will be universally hated.

    Ah well. FYC. *shrug*

    ----

OH! I almost forgot. I haven't posted an MP3 here in ages, but I think this song has some serious potential for an AMV. It's a long song and could stand to lose a verse depending on the situation.
I don't pay attention to anime any more, other than Wolf's Rain, so I have no idea what this might go with (big O, skipping the first verse?), but here are the lyrics:

David Byrne - They Are In Love

She put the scar on the side of his face
When he disappeared for three days
And they say that they are in love
He took her cocaine when she was asleep
And friends say he gave half away
And they say that they are in love
Run away, run away mun away before it?s too late
There is danger but they will not see
If they?re blind, then it?s blind that they?d rather be.

This town?s destroyed more than one friend of mine
    Funny that they never leave
They say that they are in love
Some say it?s rotten, some say it?s wrong
Some say it?s hard to believe
And some say that they are in love
Move away, move away move away before it?s too late
And the lion sleeps with the lamb
Only love lets me forget who I really am

This land is small and it?s cold and it?s damp
But there?s no place that I?d rather be
I know that I am in love
    Ethnic divisions, screaming demands
A little bit like you and me
I guess that we are in love
Stay away, stay away stay away you might end up like me

It?s the pain that keeps us alive
But that beauty is all that we need to survive
That damn beauty is all that we need to survive

  • I was the pilot of this ship, I was the pirate of this shit 2003-03-19 11:11:51 Spent exactly one hour pulling source last night (between 10 and 11 pm). Went through 3 DVD chapters, discarding about half the footage. I think that's a pretty good way to go. Also got my .wav, but still need to amplify the first .75 sec. (Intro guitar/accordion hum)

Will try to finish conversion & source gathering tonight, since my endurance training class is an hour earlier than normal.

That ending sequence is going to be a bitch to touch up >_<

  • time goes like a freight train and crushes everyone / would that we were still young 2003-03-18 10:10:56 Got started on the video I'm doing for JACON. I think it'll be OK. Not everyone's cup of tea, for sure. Also my first serious/drama video since "End of the Day", but this one has a much more solid idea to it. (Hell, it should, I've been planning this thing for 2 years while waiting for a DVD...)

Watched OtakuVideo's new Haibane Renmei video. Hooray for Candidate. "Tiger Flies" is one of the best albums I've bought in the past year.

I think this year will be my last round of editing. My free time and interest are now almost completely devoted to fitness and drawing. I don't like sitting in front of a computer any longer than I have to, and I don't even watch much anime any more. Maybe an hour or two of anime a month on average.
