I don't believe it's all for nothing

Guess it couldn't hurt to mention that a lot of the AMV ideas end up becoming wallpaper.

I'm finishing the Blues Traveler "Love and Greed" one as soon as I find a scan of Julia's model sheet.

there's a letter on the desktop that I dug out of the drawer / the last truce we ever came to from our adolescent war

Peeked at Hsien's journal this morning. (Apparently he and I are at the same point in Trigun... I saw episode 12 or 13 this weekend and was like, "Whoa! This is getting freaky!")
Anyway, I thought I'd totally bite his act and write about some abandoned videos from my deep dark past:
1. Evangelion to NIN "Mr. Self Destruct" - I had about 2 seconds of footage laid down when I realized there was no way in hell I could do that video the way I wanted to with a linear system. This was actually the first video I ever started, before I made "Army of Me".
2. Various to "Yakety Yak" by the Coasters - I couldn't find enough footage of characters doing chores around the house.
3. Giant Robo to "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones - I got the intro done up to "I see the girls walk by...", then realized I'd want to shorten the song. Had no sound editing equipment, so dismissed that. I started this one around the same time I did "Mama Said Knock You Out".
4. Various anime girls to "And She Was" by Talking Heads - I still want to do this one, but the main reason I dropped it was that the LL Cool J video ate up a lot of time, and I didn't have good footage of Kiki that I wanted to use for "she was moving very slowly, rising up above the earth"
5. Akira to "Bullet the Blue Sky" by U2 - Had this video all planned out, but balked at the "outside it's America" and "into the arms... of America" lines. Because they're, you know, in JAPAN. Also because the big "hit" shots I wanted to use were the most used shots from Akira.
6. Gasaraki to "Human Behaviour" by Bjork - Gasariki didn't feel right with that song.
And now, this year's big ol' slew of Cowboy Bebop...
1."Run On" by Moby - song was edited down to about 3 minutes. I got about 1/2 done with this, then realized it just didn't fit. It blew. Ouchie. The entire file vanished somewhere.
2. "Down in the River" by Allison Kraus - this one was almost finished, with the exception of a few blank spaces in the 2nd verse. I felt really uncomfortable with the artsy-fartsy pretentiousness of this video. It wound up in "Failed Experiments".
3. "Hey Man Nice Shot (remix)" by Filter - Not enough "hard boiled" footage. I was trying to avoid using the cathedral fight scene. Got about 1/4 done. I still like the intro, though. This also wound up in "Failed Experiments".
4. "Truth" by Moloko & J-Live with Handsome Boys Modeling School - I was going to see if I could place footage to imply a Spike/Faye romance that never happened. I screwed up editing the rap section out of the song. Laid down 2 clips and realized that video was just not going to happen. You hear this song play during the first "failed video" segment of "Failed Experiments".
5. "Bullets" by Bob Schneider - the music fit really well, but I thought it went better with another show, which I'm going to do soon.
6. "Fallen Angel" by Peter Gabriel and Robbie Robertson - This was going to be a video that focused on Jet, narrating as if he were thinking about Spike. Abandoned because I was working on the Joe Cocker video and it used a lot of the same shots. This is SUCH a fantastic song though. Whenever I hear it I think of the last 2 episodes... *sniffle*
Take a listen at http://theband.hiof.no/albums/robbie_robertson.html
7. "Love and Greed" by Blues Traveler - HUGE harmonica solo that I could barely work with. Also, the world doesn't need another Spike vs. Vicious video. Lyrics are perfect, though.
Anyway, for every music video that actually gets made, I start about 3 others... for every one I start, I have about 10 more ideas that I toss around and abandon. The first 4 in the Bebop list were the only ones I actually started on.
I can't remember all the ideas I had, then tossed.
The sun rises really late out here, like around 7 or 7:30. It's been dark as pitch outside these past 2 days when I've left for work.
Might go to the state fair this weekend. If we do go, I'm going to try to pick up the new Steve Conte single, which for some reason is exclusively available there. (Go figure.)
Listened to the news this morning while getting ready for work. There was a good amount of coverage of the anti-American protests going on in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Being in a rather dark and snarky mood, I imagined this statement being made:
Taliban leader: How dare these Americans attack us! Innocent Afghani women and children are being brutally murdered! That's OUR job!
That reminds me, I'm going to have to find a new way to shut up ranting misogynists. I used to just smile and say, "Oh, so you must be an honorary member of the Taliban", but now, that remark won't garner me that clueless, ignorant dog-tilting-head look I so prized.
I still think we should join forces with RAWA and throw a coup.
But what if we threw a coup and nobody came?
Ohh, I kill me.
Sigh. -_-

Feeling very neutral today. Like the weather. It's 75 and cloudy, slightly muggy... apathetic weather. Makes me want to go back to sleep
Went out last night to celebrate my birthday. Brett and I were going to rent a movie, but I'm tired of sitting at home. Put on some club clothes and heels and went out to Ocean's 11 and the Gingerman, 2 of my favorite bars. Brett really likes the cask-conditioned St. Arnold's, but it's too sweet for my taste. I had a pint of some Trappist Trippel pale ... forget the maker. It was sort of like Chimay White Label, but meatier. I think Hoegaarden Grand Cru is still my #1 favorite beer, though.
Had some Patron across from Saba, and watched a kickass band called Sauce. Also had a cheap vegan Thai noodle dinner... got home around 11:30 and crashed.
Here's some Stick Figure Theatre for you:

You kind of need to have seen Eva...
"Akira" is showing at the Dobie Theatre this week.
Ordered Bebop manga #1, Trigun manga #1 and #2, and the last remaining available copy of the September 2001 Newtype today.

Wow, thanks to all the nice folks who sent me happy birthday notes! :D A dreary rainy day has been brightened up a bit .
Finished some new fanart today:

Checked D. Shimare's journal and it reminded me to write down a dream.
Last night, I was working on my website when sirens began blaring from the local fire stations. Before, I'd have thought "oh, they're just testing again, or there's a tornado warning"... but last night the first thing that spraing into my mind was "Are those air raid sirens?"
I went to bed at 10 with rock on the pit of my stomach. Drank a couple of glasses of wine and read an Animerica and issues 1 & 2 of Kid Eternity* to get my mind off it.
Anyway, I dreamed that I was waiting in line to get into a chapel where some acquaintances were getting married. My coworker, Travis, was there for the wedding as well. A man in line in front of us pulled out a cell phone from his pocket and began punching in a code. Somehow Travis and I knew that he was activating a bomb to blow up the church. We ran like crazy... he veered off to the right and cut through a pasture (we were somewhere around Natchez, MS) I went left towards a parked supply van.
Climbing into the van, I discovered that Mike and Prairie were in it - Prairie was driving... they were doing some sort of repair work on a water main but when I told them of the bomb, they started up the van and took off.
We came to a sort of refugee camp in the middle of the woods, where everyone went into an orange and red exam room and was separated out by ethnicity and religion and all forced to march down different paths towards unknown destinations. I remember trudging through the mud with a water canteen slung over my shoulder... then waking up.
No clue what it means. Probably just that I'm more nervous about the war than I want to admit.
*I don't choose the most pleasant bedtime stories, do I o_o

24 Years Open
2001-10-09 10:00:14
Well, I'm 24 years old today.
On my birthday I take stock of what (if anything) I've done to justify my continuous use of oxygen over the past year.
I'm not an entertainer, but I think giving people laughs is a good thing. So I guess I've done that.
How pathetic is this: I've already been picking out candidate songs for my Heaven's Door video and I haven't even seen the movie yet (I refuse to watch the videotaped-in-the-theatre fansub.) Also planning out shots for my Adolescence Mokushiroku video.
Whoa, I just found out today is my supervisor's birthday, too! I think we're both going to leave early today.
Looks like that sunset picnic won't happen - dreary clouds outside are full of rain.
Interesting reading for the day:
