Well damn, there's my problem.
I've been listening to un-AMV-able music for the past 3 or 4 months. :P

Responding in bits and pieces to MCWagner's journal entry
2003-06-17 12:14:07
MCWagner: Pretty please on which? o_o Room party or introductions? I can do the latter; the former... well, let's just say Let's Classy was much more feasible back when I was making $25,000 more per year than I am now :( Can't afford to put out $300 for free liquor any more :(
I love your take on AWA. It's looking like Brett and I might make it this year... I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I want to be useful this year, like in addition to the website and all.
"sneaking into a TV film editing lab after hours"
/me whistles innocently
I can't believe that people get so worked up, like, emotionally, over sitting up at night and putting Japanese cartoons to music. Maybe that's why I can't seem to be bothered to finish my AWA entries... -_-;;
Y'know, I am saving my video for AWA, but mainly because only you, jingoro, and maybe Lee will like it. (OLD SKOOL YO) If you want something to torture the audience with, you can run my next video :P
I agree with you as well that 'opportunity' consists of 'being at the con and not being a total jerk'. One guy I really enjoyed hanging with at AWA8 wasn't even into anime, he just came along with some friends...
RE: Finding Nemo - saw it with a 3 and a half year old girl and she got too scared by the sharks and had to leave. She came back in time to catch most of the rest of the movie, though.
I just... forgot it was computer animation, until I saw the humans. I guess that's a good thing :)
Anyway, tonight I'll see if the wipe & reinstall of the PicVideo MJPEG codec worked or not... ngh. I need to get this video done, but that involves sitting in front of a damn monitor when I could be... doing STUFF. :P

Can anyone help me out with this? I'm totally at a loss...
Last night I got an idea for the most horrid, sucktastic and evil video ever... What's funny about this one is, the lyrics match the footage perfectly, but oh, OH the music is SO inappropriate.
And I've already had the footage on my HD for several months.
Muwahahahahahahaha. I TORTURE YOU.

Mumblings, musings
2003-06-06 09:16:52
Quoted from an Entertainment Weekly article on mix tapes:
"...by now we all have the computing power to delude ourselves into thinking we can create better entertainment. We're entering an age of endless vacation-picture slide shows, only with more arty pretense. It's an era when self-restraint will be more appreciated than self-expression."
Hrmmm...
I've been upset lately at the number of detractors of fan-related creativity (i.e. the "Don't make AMVs, they're for unoriginal pussies, don't draw comics unless you're Jack Kirby" crowd)... but I do think the "arty pretense" bit is spot on.
In the end, all we're doing is hacking up someone else's cartoon and putting it to someone else's music.
Are AMVs art? Debatable. Personally, I think that any form of expression not vital to daily communication or survival is art. YMMV.
Maybe the more pertinent question about AMVs is, are they fun?
I dunno... seems like the "fun" part has been lost or overlooked. :/ There's so much seriousness about "artistic value"... Let's face it, we're not painting Guernica here. In the end, *this is someone else's work*, and 99% of the time, it's used without the original artist's consent or permission.
What happened to just playing around?
