The local arcade was going be receiving a DDREX machine on Friday. Instead, they were sent a 3rd, brand new I might add.
Now despite I just received my MAX2 like two weeks ago or something, I just cant resist getting to play 3rd once more OR use a brand new machine. My Rowley XLT's have never touched a brand new machine before (as well as any other shoes of mine). Oh SSR I missed you so! Well... not really but I think you get the point.
Well Im there and playing and after awhile a little kid, maybe 3 or 4 wonders up onto the pad. Now I figure there is a guardian around. Its like come on!, who would not pay attention to where the hell their youngest kid is wandering to with a dancing machine right there. Im playing Turn Me On (Of E-Rotic songs, I missed you even more!) and Im already quite tired.
In all honesty, I dont want to step on the kid (I too would dislike being stepped on) but I dont want to lose my precious money either. Im cheap, so kill me. So there I am, "dancing" away with a little child about to get crushed. I hear the mother start to call the kids name but she isnt applying and effort to grab them or lead them away from the pad; just standing back acting like the kid will get off it on its own just cause it heard its name. The kid obviously stupid enough to wonder up there so what mother think the kid is smart enough to get away from me?
I really don't want to step on them for their own sake, not just for my money, so between breaths I spit out the words "Don't hold me responsible if they get stepped on." I didn't say it harshly, just as nicely as I could while breathing very heavily. I was hoping this would catch the mothers attention and direct their youngest away from my dangerous leg fury.
Oh it caught her attention alright... but not in the way I was hoping.
Yes they pulled their kid away from the danger of become a bug on my clean shoe but they must not of like the way I stated my warning. They start yelling "You bet you are responsible!" at me. Yeah, yelling. I try to explain calming (song now over) they I was just saying you cant hold me legally responsible if their child broke a leg or sustained some other injury. They dont listen, too caught up in still yelling at me I guess. She, the mother, after stating that she is an adult, threatens to hit me and beat me up. Adult?
While thinking about the humour of how she is mad about my wording, not my actions, I must have let out a little chuckle. They get mad about that and now I started to get annoyed. Before now it was fun and games. Honestly. How often does one get to have such a pointless argument.
I turn away from them because I should have to listen to this crap and go to play again. About a minute into playing, in the middle of Captain Jack in SSR, all of her children start pounding on my pad yelling "Your not doing it right!" several times.
What can I say. I can block out noise easily but I can only stand this for about 15 seconds. I lose control (forgetting there are a ton of little kids around), turn around, and yell "What the fuck is wrong with you people!!"
She is yelling at me because I didnt want to take responsibility if the kid got hurt! He didn't get hurt! SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LET ME PLAY DAMMIT!!!! They almost look shocked but only then does she say "Whadaya gonna do!? Whadaya gonna do!?" (yeah, just like that). I decide that I dont have to listen to this incredibly immature adult and go to get my money back for the tokens. Im explaining to the cashier, help person, whatever, about why I would like my money back when I realize that this is the first time Im getting to play 3rd mix in a long time. So nevermind I tell them and explain my reasoning (they too dance the ddr :P). I turn around a low and behold theres the mother with her 5, maybe 6, children right there breathing down my neck (not literally thanks to the guard rail). I do tell the employee that I would like to speak with Jeff, the onsite manager, in like half an hour or so.
I didn't really want to talk to Jeff (nothing against him). I just said it to hope that these annoyances would decide to leave me alone. I too am a customer, although I am there quite a bit, and dont deserve this. As I walk back to the machine the mother is yelling (REALLY LOUD) that she will beat the crap out of me. Again, adult I ask myself? I get to the machine and they dont follow....... so I think. Clever bastards wait til I start playing before they sneak up behind. After about 4 minutes (not knowing there right there) starting to think "finally. they are leaving me alone."
Thats when the badgering starts. They all start yelling at me saying one stupid thing or another. The only thing I recall them saying was something about my "girly" shirt. I was wearing the .Hack//SIGN shirt which came with the first DVD volume. Girly? Kick ass more like it :P
Thanks to my addiction with DDR, I have learned how to completely ignore verbal distractions. So I just keep playing. In fact I do quite well in nonstop mode during all this. I would say it was probably a good 10 minutes (not a single reaction from me) before they got bored and left me alone. Either that, or Jeff, who saw the whole thing, said something to the woman about it. Either way, they left me alone after that.

my bashfulness cost me today......
....and on the amv front, I am trying to finish my remaster of my dragula video. Dont expect anything great. It's a REMASTER, not a REMAKE! It wont be much better if by any. Once I get this pos done, and move out in a week or something, I will attempt to start getting into amv more aggresively.
....and on the ddr front I, I just purchased an upgrade kit so I can degrade my machine from 7th mix down to 5th. 5th mix is god.
bah, must have sleep. working 45 hrs a week and still going to school full time is starting to drain me. thnk god summer quarter begins soon. - god I hate those Powerade matrix commercials. 2003-05-29 22:58:11
