JOURNAL: Jayn_Newell

  • Well, that's good 2006-06-29 16:35:01 I'm pretty sure now that I didn't get kicked out of the journalism program. I got mail today from the school for 'soon-to-be-fourth-year-students', which I doubt they'd send me if I'd been kicked out. Yay! I think...

They also sent out a notice about The Daily News online service. Apparently they're offering an 8-month online subscription to students for $10 0.0 While The Daily News isn't my favorite paper, the cheapest subscription I could get for that span of time otherwise, even with student discounts, would be over $50, so this is a really good deal, especially since I was going to dump the paper on paper route anyways to save a few trees. Half the time I don't even read it, so why bother?

I also need to remember to drop my TV instructor a line--she mentioned there being other ways to work in TV besides actually being in front of the camera (I'd much rather be behind it), and since I occasionally do video editing as a hobby, this is something which really appeals to me. I've mentioned before that I do find this field interesting, I just prefer the back-end jobs more than the actual journalism.
  • 2006-06-29 15:15:39 This is crazy

I don't make an amv for three years, and now I can't stop coming up with ideas. So far, in addition to the one I'm (not) working on, theres

Sailor Moon--Run, Run Away (Great Big Sea)
Various--Happy Boy and Happy Girls (Aqua)
Excel Saga--Foolish Games (Jewel)---This one I'd have a lot of trouble finding the DVDs for, and my fansubs are crap quality, but if I can I will do this, mainly because I doubt anyone else has the guts to try this.
GitS, GitS: SAC, Appleseed and MAYBE Innocence--Have a Nice Day (Bon Jovi)---I'm so doing this. I'm not sure I'd be able to org it, since I plan to have it end with everyone's head getting blown off, but I really want to do this idea.

And I also think I want to do another Appleseed vid using something from Three Days Grace. AND my BF wants me to do a Gundam Seed Destiny AMV--not sure if I will or not, but he's offered to provide the footage for me. The idea doesn't appeal to me much though, I haven't seen Destiny and Gundam Seed is far from one of my favorite shows.

And I still need to get my stuff in order so I can do a quick short I've had bouncing around my head for a while.
  • Jaddzia... 2006-06-28 16:31:32 No one should be scared of shonen-ai. Though I suspect that some people could be put off of a video for that sole reason, and worse editors than you have mayhap gotten nasty comments about it.

But seriously, what's wrong with shonen-ai? It's like watching any romance, only there happens to be two guys in it. Now yaoi I can see having a problem with, but that for reasons other than homosexuality. That reminds me, the first gay wedding in the RCMP is happening in the next couple of days near here. Go Canada!
  • Sub0... 2006-06-27 12:22:00 Thanks for the recommendations.

Excel Saga I've seen, and honestly at this point the main reason for buying it would be to make an AMV. Although I did rather enjoy it--just not enough that I'm sure it's worth buying. I've seen part of the Sakura Wars TV series (one of my friends won the first DVD at Animaritime, go Cait!). I didn't realise there were also OVAs though. I kinda hate having partial series, so that fact might put me off buying that one. I'm also up for other recommendations, just as long as the series is short (by that I mean 26 eps or less, and ideally available in a boxset).

There's also the option of just continuing with my GitS collection, but that already makes up about half of my DVD collection and I want a little more variety (not to mention it's impossible to finish that off until at least September). Besides, I know I'll buy it all eventually anyways, so since I have cash I'll get something different or I'll never get around to other shows.
  • Sweet, money! 2006-06-27 07:22:33 What a nice surprise. My deposits from my room and gown came back yesterday, so I have an extra $390. You know what this means......ANIME!!!! Granted, I can't spend all of it--I need to save some for school this year, plus my boyfriend is visiting next week, meaning I'm not working and will have more reason to spend money. But this does allow me to buy a new series or two. I suppose I should also get a credit card too, so I can order from Amazon without borrowing my mother's.

Now, the big question--Elfin Lied, Gungrave, Princess Tutu, Arjuna, Sakura Wars, Gravitation, Excel Saga, Azumanga Daioh, or Crono Crusade. And dammit I know my list is longer than that--I need to write it down one of these days.

And there's always the option of hunting down Sailor Moon R on eBay.
