I really didn't think I'd be blogging, but...
2004-08-21 03:50:40
Why is it that on the forums, people will quickly come in and insult missinformation without offering any real help? For example, I said PAL was 23.976. Not really a big deal, but the problem remains because of this. Next thing someone says is "notice Blah Blah Blah PAL blah blah blah", and that's it. What the fuck did you accomplish? Did you magically make me look stupid because you pointed out a mistake? You don't even have shit to back it up. If I did that over the forums, I'd be banned, Why? Because of two reasons:
1. I'm way more ruthless. I won't back down from any argument unless the other person is truly right, in which case I wouldn't argue at all, and
2. I know a little about a lot. I have somewhere around 400 posts in close to a year. I pretty much lurk, without saying much. Perhaps I should start, just to be banned like Hatter.
The next person who comes in is none other than Scintilla. I usually have respect for what he has to say, but not this time. Just like the first, he only pointed out my mistake without helping. Spamming and trolling. The third person really was the one that pointed out my mistake, thus making his post more helpful (even if it was the most inflamatory), but still offered no help on the subject at hand. Why do you even post? Just to start an argument? I guess the best way to sum it up is this: Winning an argument over the internet is like winning the special olympics; you're still retarded. Perhaps I should lighten up a bit myself, but shit like that has happend from fucking AD as well. Great job, guys. ^_~
I suppose the only reason I post in video software help is becasue no one else does. I at least *try* to help, and most of the questions are rather simple anyway. I've read most of AD's new guide, so I can actually help sometimes. In fact, I can't really remember a post I made in there that wasn't all that helpful, except this recent one. Hrm... Perhaps when I read the full guide I'll be of more use. Maybe I could write my own (yeah right). In all seriousness, though, I'm working on modifying VirtualDub in my own special way. Perhaps when that is done people will offer me more respect. Or not. Whatever.
The only reason I am even posting this is because I don't understand why SS5_Majin_Bebi said that I don't usually help. Did he research my posts, or is this general consensus? Why is it that people feel I'm not helping, especially when I hardly try? Admittingly I should have more technical experience when dealing with the video help sections, but then again most of the people are on par with me, or only a mere step ahead. At least that's what I've noticed.
*Note*I'm only posting this so as not to start a flame war. Bebi is partly right, and I shouldn't act like I know everything. In the same respect people shouldn't act like they know it all either, really. If we followed that logic only AD, Ermac, and possibly tab. would be posting in there. Whatever, I'll just ignore it, grow up, and move on. They really can't stop me from giving bad advice, can they?

Why I don't care about clip theft
2004-08-17 23:03:48
I suddenly realized when I read my new signature on the forums that it is possible someone might missunderstand my intent, so I figured I'd expound upon it, using the magic of bullets.
- The first reason I don't care comes from what I said in a thread earlier on the subject. The quotation is:
"Also, I really wouldn't care. If they used the same footage and filters as me, but the clips looked the same, I would assume that they didn't really steal my clips, just my idea. Why? Double compression makes things look worse, or so I'm told. And if it does look crappy, well then it seems mine is superior. I win both times. "
The key here is the last sentance "I win both times" That means that I won't do it, but I won't care if someone does. Why? Because if someone copies my source, they would have to do it after I made mine. That would make my idea the origional one (perhaps not even that origional), and the other person's inferior. Also, to proclaim that I would "win both times," yet go and copy someone elses footage would be far to brash, and I can't see myself doing it.
- The second reason I don't care is the simple fact stated in my signature that is this: Unless they upload my video as their own, who's to say they didn't have the same idea I did? There is no concrete way of telling whether or not someone overtly stole my video, or just followed the same process. For example, ever think of some modern day convenience that would be better for everyone, just to see it on the store shelves in a week? No, the government isn't watching you, your idea was just good enough to be thought of by someone else. Do you really think you are the only one who wants to do a video using a particular song using some particular anime? Please get off your high horse, you aren't the most origional person in the world and shouldn't claim to be.
- The third reason is that if someone went so far as to use a few clips from my video, I would be honored. That would mean the person liked they way I filtered and edited the clip, so they wanted to use it as their own. Of course I can only see this happening if I applied some sort of effect to the clip. If it was just a clip, then that goes back to my second point: Who's to say they didn't just have the same idea.
- The fourth reason for my sig is the simple fact that everyone bitches about it. Look at my avatar. It clearly states "STOP BITCHING ABOUT CLIP THEFT" What it doesn't say is "I WANT AN EXCUSE TO STEAL CLIPS," or "YOU SHOULD ALL LOVE TO HAVE YOUR CLIPS STOLEN!" To be quite frank, I love it when people try to take initiative and stop people from using their work, I just don't want to hear about it all the time. If you have a problem, keep it quiet. It's not like you would go to work and scream out "I'm suing Frank for sexual harassment!", so why do you think we all want to hear that someone stole your perfect clip? Back to what I said earlier, there is nothing I like more than people to disagree with me. Not because I love to argue (and believe me, I do), but because it shows that humans aren't just mindless trolls, we all have different opinions and want to express them. Also, when people try to stop people from taking their clips, it shows they have pride in their work and don't want people to oppress that or "steal their thunder", so to speak, much the same as I have pride in my work and it would make me happy to see someone replicate my idea.
So, to sum it up, the reason for my sig and avatar is to get people to stop telling others when their clips are stolen, and take the initiative to fix it themselves. It seems rather childish to point fingers, so keep it on the DL.
