  • The State of AMV.org 2025-11-25 19:39:32
It’s been a while since I wrote my last journal entry, but after revisiting my old profile, I realized something that needs to be said: AMV.org has fallen out of touch with today’s AMV reality. The site’s original purpose — to catalog and preserve AMVs — is still valuable, but the world around it has changed dramatically. Streaming is the norm now, instant playback is expected, and the Org hasn’t kept up.

Back in the old days, a 50MB file downloaded instantly, and local downloads were the core of how fans watched new AMVs. But with HD becoming standard, the 150MB limit (300MB only for donators) forces heavy compression that kills detail and quality. Combine that with the membership wall, and you end up with great videos buried simply because people don’t want to create an account they’ll use once.

Meanwhile, every platform outside AMV.org offers what modern viewers want: instant access. YouTube and AMVNews give users streaming, thumbnails, tags, and no hoops to jump through. Even AMV.org’s preview mode requires membership, isn’t instantly available, and runs at low quality. Today’s fans won’t fight through extra steps just to watch an AMV when other sites give them one-click playback.

What I’ve noticed over the years is simple: my direct-link uploads get more views and downloads than my local ones, even when the videos themselves are strong. That’s not a quality issue — it’s an accessibility issue. AMVs aren’t dead. People still want to watch them. They just don’t want to navigate outdated barriers to do it.

AMV.org still does one thing extremely well: it preserves AMVs and their history. But if it wants to remain relevant instead of becoming just an archive, it needs to adapt — modern streaming, higher size limits, no login walls, mobile-friendly design, and better discoverability. The community isn’t gone. It’s just gone where AMVs are easier to watch. AMVs didn’t die; the site stopped evolving.

I finally got around to adding links to my newest videos Dragula Symphony and Invisible Gamble! I finally did the intros to them which I was being real lazy about. Sometimes I wonder why I bother doing those any more, probably because people still ask me the song and artist instead of bothering to read the description? Yah, that about sums it up. Any ways hope you all enjoy them!

Could possibly be my last two videos of 2023 but we will see!

I made an amv for Valentine's day but forgot to post it here! lol. Romance videos are not my forte but I think I did pretty well on this one. I think its my best one yet.

I had to remaster the footage for this series because the dvd quality footage was not up to hd standards. I think I did a decent job with what I had to work with. I'm not a big fan of remastering its a tricky process.

Well some stuff happened and I almost lost all of my work including my amv stuff. My computer died in the middle of an upgrade but luckily for me I was able to save my ssd drive and my hard drive. Just getting them back up online on the new computer is more trouble than its worth. I'm almost back to where I was when I left off although I'm still 3 weeks behind. I managed to finish my video for Katsucon which is a video I thought I lost during the crash. The only thing that sucks at the moment is all my plugins I had as well as my fonts aren't showing up in Vegas 19. Can't say I'm a fan of it btw. And to make matters worse even though I installed Vegas 15 as well all my rendering settings are different! Nothing is recognizable on this new install can't say I'm too happy about it, but I'll try to make it work.

Work will soon begin on Zenkaikon 23 amv contest as well so stay tuned for that. I was hoping to do some work for it when my system crashed big time. Plus a lot of the parts I was hoping to upgrade started to breakdown on me. Now that my pc is replaced the next thing I'm going to have to replace is my laptop since that thing is literally just a giant paper weight at the moment. Fun times indeed.

I'm getting back into the swing of things again and have a couple more videos coming down the pipe line in a few weeks. I've been on a Bleach binge and watching nothing but Bleach so I've been in a mood to edit with Bleach. I don't know why I never really edited it with it before. Probably cause it was a hassle to rip dvds back in the day especially for long series. So I have a small trailer amv and a full video coming soon when I get the kinks worked out. It's great to be back!
