JOURNAL: Metalfrost_JPN (Jason Brittain)

  • Audition Time 2014-01-20 23:53:22 So the DVD have arrived and I'm slowly working through them in my free time, jotting down notes for the parts I'm envisioning them to play and so forth.

I'm looking forward to firing up the editor again and trying out some of the new tricks I unearthed whilst flipping through tutorial videos, but with this project I definitely don't want to get ahead of myself. It's easily going to be my most complex to date and I'll need to percolate it a bit more before I'll be willing to start breaking it down.

Anyway - back to the screening room!
  • Local finally 2014-01-15 15:19:59 Preliminary thoughts and planning persist on the new video concepts. I've scrapped one idea due to an already quite full page of others using the same song. The second I tossed in the bin as the music just really wasn't working for me.

That leaves me with one working idea - the crazy one. Heh. I've got DVDs ordered and I'm sure more will start to gel in my head as I start doing some viewings.

In other news - I was able to get smaller but good quality renders of my two AMVs to date, and have uploaded them to the database, giving those interested multiple ways to view and enjoy
  • Onward 2014-01-03 14:34:58 As it happens - I was only a couple days off target to premiere Coyote Hustle. I'm really very pleased with it. I feel like I can definitely see improvement between what I did with Super Nitrogon and this new one. Progress and learning. It's all good.

I've had some report of things feeling off, and in my multiple viewings of the vid on YouTube - sometimes I've seen that. (And sometimes not.) I suspect that some of the issue may be due to being streamed, though I'm not certain. It certainly seems tight enough watching my local copy here.

However, that's easily enough checked. I'll render a smaller file size (whilst still keeping 16:9, due to the vid source) and get it hosted here locally. Then it should be easier to download and compare.

So with that done - what next? I have an idea, actually. A complicated and quite possibly silly one, in fact. It may get scrapped before it has much work done on it - but my brain's got a hold of the notion now and so I'm going to at least take a swing at it and see what, if anything, comes out of it

First though - now that I've got a good grip on what Power Director can do for me on a basic/intermediate level, I'm going to look over some of the advanced tutorials and see what other things it can do that I don't even know yet. It may even spark some additional ideas. I certainly hope so, at least.

After that - I'll pick out some new source material, and get cracking. Gods (and my often fleeting free time) willing, we'll have another new video in 2-3 months
  • In Progress - Part 2 2013-12-30 18:28:09 Things are progressing nicely now that the work schedule dialed it back a little bit.

Fairly sure I'm not going to hit my end of the year completion target.

    =But=

I am fairly sure I'm going to have a full rough cut of the new video to tweak by then. So all in all, I'm pleased. I've only got one major and two minor gaps in the footage I need to fill in, and then I can crank out a good high qual render to go over it with the fine-tooth comb.

The experience - once again - has been very educational, and I'm very pleased at how much tighter the synch is on this new creation.
  • In Progress 2013-12-19 12:44:03 Second project currently under way. Hoping to have it wrapped by close of December.

We shall see. Having fun with it, though.
