JOURNAL: DTJB (James Brown)

  • When was the last time a member of YOUR family was considered a brilliant strategist? 2005-10-12 20:38:40 About a week ago, I found out that my aunt Dorothy (step aunt, whatever) helped arrest a sex offender at the library she was working at, pretty amazing. What happened was that a homeless man entered the library, picked up a 1 and a half year old girl, took her to the bathroom and started to assault her. When Dorothy found out the girl was missing and tracked the homeless man to where he was, she was able to get everyone to help out: called the police, rescue the girl, trap the man in the bathroom until cops showed up. While she did most of the work by organizing everyone and preventing the situation from getting serious, she was actually quite modest about it. But the thing that surprises me the most, the homeless man was a repeat offender. I'm all for giving people a second chance, but he totally wasted it.

Now it's time to bitch about work...again. For those of you who have heard me bitch before, advance to my latest experiences in Photoshop. For the rest of you, try to stay interested. Well, since my proposal for a department transfer didn't go through, I considered quitting last night. Working at night is excruciating and my co-workers have no patience when I don't even have any for myself. I guess I was just in a bad mood, 'cause things got better as we were close to closing. If I ever do quit my job, I can find a better one because I have enough skills to get a better job, but I think I still have it because I'm not sure if any other job can get me the same hours I have. Well, I'll try to tough it out some more.

My big Photoshop project came out alright, it could have been much better if I had more time to spend on it. Hopefully I can touch it up a bit so I can put it somewhere on the net. Yeah, I like it so much I want to share it with people. It's basically a fake DVD cover for a video displaying old school wrestling heels (bad guys). Not much, but I'm still proud of it.

Kids, listen to SarahtheBoring and read her journal entry. Why, 'cause she's smart.
  • Guess I'm Stuck for a While 2005-10-05 19:05:46 My proposal to get transferred to the cage department didn't go through. The reason was because I was written up for a small incident with a fellow co-worker way back in May. I didn't think the problem was that big of a deal, she just made it a big deal, but it's come back to bite me in the butt. Company policy states the no employee can transfer to another department for a full year if they have been written up for any reason. That little incident is the only smudge on my performance record, the higher ups say I've been doing fairly well otherwise. Still, I have to wait 7 months before I can transfer, if I still want to that is. Things have been going alright at the deli, nothing I can't handle. The bitch and I still have our differences now and again, but I've been pushing back on occasion and we've come to a relationship where we can tolerate each other. So who knows, maybe I'll enjoy staying at the deli for another year.

Finally picked up my dad's computer from the shop. Haven't tried it out yet so I don't know how well it works. Now that that's done, I can concentrate on getting a laptop for myself. I'm not going to start right away on doing so, and I'm not sure if I want to finish my video first, or get a computer and work on the video at the same time.

I find it very disturbing that we could all die from birds. Not just the fact that it's a pandemic, but the fact that it comes from birds. You know the scene from Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds", where the gas station blows up and the sea gulls swoop down from above? That's what I think of from time to time.

October the 24, I'm going to audition for a part in an adaptation of "A Christmas Story", one of my favorite holiday movies. I'm not sure how well the transition from screen to stage will be made, will they do the tire changing scene? "Oh fuuuuuuuudddddgggeeeeee." However it turns out, I'm still hoping they have a part for me on this one.

Found a really nice site while looking for pic for my recent Photoshop assignment, www.obsessedwithwrestling.com. Very informative with as much trivia you could ask for on an wrestler, past or present. Even if you're not big into the current wrestling scene (I barely watch it anymore, big fan of the classic stuff), it's really nice it find out what's what and who's who. Some of the stuff I found was really interesting. The guy who uses the Raven identity, Scott Levy, was the same guy who used the Johnny Polo identity back in the early 90's. Fans who even remember the Johnny Polo character should have a raised eye brow right about now, I sure was surprised.
  • 3+ years of my life. AND FOR WHAT? A DRAFT?!? 2005-09-23 18:24:29 After 3 years and a couple of months of labor, I finally finished the draft to my latest major writing project. No I didn't work 3 years strait on it, general laziness, other writing projects, AMVs, work, class and life itself has prevented me from finishing it sooner. I want to work on the music video a bit before I start editing the story, but now that I'm in the editing stage, it's going to be so much easier now.

I've decided to become a cage cashier over at the boat. Being a deli attendant is tough work and it's hard to enjoy this job when you're working with people who consider their job to be a living hell. I submitted the paper work and it's currently in the process of being reviewed, but they won't let me go until they find someone to fill my place so it's going to be a long while until I get to change positions. Guess I'm going to be stuck there for a while.

I'm surprised I've been able to get my mom interested in some of the things I'm interested in, especially what's on television. From anime like Paranoid Agent and the works of Hayao Miyazaki to Family Guy, yeah, Family Guy. She may not have the same appreciation for everything I do, but it's nice to know she likes some of this stuff. I keep forgetting that even at her age, she's very open minded and has a great sense of humor, she's the one who got me interested in the works of R. Crumb. As a result, she tries to get me into reading the same stuff she does. I'd give it a shot, but I'm not big into reading novels that much, especially since It's hard to get me reading a novel, even when I really have a desire to do so. I also have my own list of books to read, Vampire Hunter D, Tale of Genji, maybe Socrates in Love now that Viz is hyping it up. But I am still working on Lord of the Rings: Fellowship, so that has her happy since she read that when she was young.

Got a copy of Strong Bad Sings in the mail, pretty goofy. It's also very well done, Mike and Matt Chapman found some very excellent talent to help them along with this. I already have some ideas on what to use for TROGDOR and The System is Down.

Shin Akuma has been removed, my new profile pic is of myself. Taken by Shayna at Anime Iowa. The katana is a cheap mass produced blade that I bought in a pawn shop, can't cut skin at all. Every time I bring that to the convention, it gets attention, and people think I bought it at the dealer's room. I'm wearing my official t-shirt, yeah, I tend to whore myself out, but since I don't really have a product to distribute at all, there's almost no reason to wear it, but some people know why I have it on. The only problem with the picture is that you can't tell my hair is spiked up. Well, maybe I'll alter it in Photoshop or something someday.
  • My Con Report 2005-09-12 21:08:01 Anime Iowa was a total blast and I can not express how much of a great time I had. It was truly awesome! The following is pretty much all I experienced.

I didn't get to all of the panels that I wanted to, some I missed because I was watching something, in the dealers room, or just killing time in the game room. The ones I went to were nice though, like the voice actor panel and the getting into the manga business panel.

Got to meet Greg Ayers, ADV's own punk voice actor. He held a really nice panel, doing commentary on the first episode of Chrono Crusade, as well as being a part of the voice actor panel. This guy was just too cool, friendly, funny and he had a lot of great stories to tell. The highlight was when I got my picture taken with him. I will definitely have to look up his resume to see what roles he's been in besides C.C.

Hooked up with the crew of Guardian Sun Studios Roku did a nice commission for me which I plan to "alter" in Photoshop class. They held a panel that was extremely hilarious, the Otaku-no-Yen Live Action panel. Basically, they had a booth set up in the dealers room with copies of a comic that had empty text bubbles. People had to fill the bubbles, hand them in to the artist and attend their panel to watch them act out every comic with the audience members choosing their favorite. Mine didn't win, but that's obviously because the winner was a comic that was a big Bawls joke. Check out www.guardiansun.com/webcomic/ after Tuesday to see what I'm talking about.

Cosplay was great. They had someone with a giant Hello Kitty head on as they wore a Sailor Moon outfit. One of the winners was Sideswipe from the Transformers, I mean a Sideswipe that actually transformed, crazy. One of my friends from high school, Ms. Spain, was one of the judges. Believe me, she is one of the best cosplayers I have met, right up there with Erika Door. She and I are always able to find each other at some point each year at Anime Iowa, but I felt like we weren't connecting as friends that way. So, I was able to get her e-mail address and I plan to contact her later this week. Maybe I can have her help me out with a costume idea I'm thinking of doing.

Went to both of the dances. Not much of a fan of techno music, but that wasn't the point. I just let the music grove me and from there, the fun began. One of the guests, a manga writer from TokyoPop, led the crowd in step aerobics (ha-ha) and a couple of conga lines. Some people showed off some really great dance moves, even say a girl around the ages of seven or eight blow everyone away. Shayna, you missed out on a great time, I'm serious.

Saw some new anime for the first time. Narutaru looks interesting. Elfin Lied was fucking intense, but very well thought out. Saw half of an episode of Planets, looks promising. Saw ten minutes of an episode of Mama is a 4th Grader, interesting conception. Watch a good portion of Gundam F91, even though I didn't watch much, it was cool, 'cause it was Gundam. Saw This is Otakudom for the first time, one of the best parody dubs I have ever seen.

For those of you who didn't go for whatever reason, I definitely recommend going next year. It's a small con, but many of the people who appear as guests say it's one of the best they've ever been to. If you can, check it out next year, I bet it will be as much of a blast as it was this year.
  • TOMORROW BABY! Tomorrow. 2005-09-08 18:45:47 Anime Iowa starts tomorrow and I can't wait! There's going to be a lot going on, so many panels that I'm actually looking forward to, it's going to be great. I'm think of bringing some of my old video games along with me to a room party or the actual gaming room, just incase things get boring, but I doubt it. Even though my AMV project is nowhere near completion, I'm still going to watch this year's contest to see how everyone else is doing. Everything starts at noon so I won't be able to make it as it first kicks off, but I'm still going to have a blast.

Speaking of the AMV project, I finally have all of the scenes picked out for the second verse of the song, now on to the third and final verse. This is going to be the most difficult selection process in the project, because this is the part where I realize I'm running out of scenes to use. Well, if I just keep at the pace I've been giving it, it should turn out all right. I should try and finish the whole thing by the end of the year or something.

A lot of the Tekken fan are pretty interested in Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection coming out. I like the idea since I didn't like the concept of 5.1. Anyway, the new characters look pretty unique. Lili looks like Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Evolution, and Dragunov looks like he belongs in the Third Reich. When I brought this up to my friends a while ago, the conversation when like this; Me: "He looks like he belongs in the Third Reich." Hogosha: "Hee-hee." Murphy: "No, you don't get it. He's actually suppose to be a combination of Adolf Hitler and Edward Scissorhands." Hogosha: "Edward Hitler-Hands?" Me "Ha-ha." Customization look alright, I don't like the idea of giving Kazuya a pompadour, makes him look stupid. Anyway, I'm going to pass on buying it 'cause I'm still working on Tekken Uno (when I play a game, I try to play all of it).
