Another banner-influenced rant
2003-12-12 06:57:06
It's been a while since I last touched this journal.. and again it seems the reason is banners. This time there was this quite nice-looking banner with had 2 VCRs and a text "know your roots". It seems it wasn't worthy. Well.. there's one thing I want to say to some parts of this amv-community..
YOU ARE SPOILED BRATS WITH NO RESPECT TO THE PIONEERS OF FANMADE AMV-WORK AND YOU SHOULD BE STRIPPED FROM YOUR BROADBAND CONNECTIONS!!!
*cough*
..other than that, have a nice day and keep doing and watching AMVs ^_^

Claiming AMV ideas
2003-09-12 08:09:26
Better start writing these someday.. incoming rant warning..
Well.. It started as an "ok" day.. like there'd be any good days. I log in to amv.org (once again.. yea, I admit, I'm an addict) and see that there are new banners to vote for. Oh yeaaa*clickclickclick* mmm.. that's a good one, naah, wahahaha, nope, horrible.. and then "...". There's this banner.. it was done quite nice, and the basic technical idea was funny. It's these animated gif-ones where the text changes.. ok. It goes something like "came up with a good AMV idea" -> "what! it's been already done" ->
"CLAIM YOUR AMVs BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE DOES!" (!!!) >_< Where's the option for "totally NOT worthy?!"
I mean what the **** is going on with this claiming shit!? "hey I made an AMV, now it's totally mine and no one else shall not make like it or it's the fckn' WRATH OF GOD!".. No it's NOT! You're using someone else's creations ALREADY. Video and mostly the audio too. I think AMV scene doesn't need this kind of shit.
Why? What's going on?whatthef**kdidIdo?
One reason I said already just now. This is a fan activity. People create these things mostly because they like the anime, they like the music and they want to make a tribute by joining these. Or they come up with something like "hey, this would make a good/funny AMV" while they listen to some music piece. At least this is how it should be. Even though they are even illegal according to some law sources.
So, someone has made an AMV. It's original, and it's quite good. ok. Then somewhere else, totally unaware of this someone comes up with a similar idea, goes check the amv.org only to notice.. fuuuuuuu**.. it's already been made. Gets the video and watches it. "hey.. it's nice, but I had something totally different in mind.. I could make a much better one."
... -_-
Before people go and gather a lynchmob they should remember that with the same music, or videomaterial from the same anime, you can make an AMV with a totally different theme and/or feeling in it. And even in case of same "theme".. those are still amvs made by two different people.. meaning... two different views. If there's an original idea and you have come up with a same idea and really really want to do your version out of it.. I'll say "that's f***n' GREAT! GO FOR IT!" And now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you should start plagiarize every great piece of work you see. Keep the originality that you have in your own works. You are humans.. humans are able to think.. use your COMMON SENSE.. PLEASE. I mean.. one more NGE AMV and I'm going to scream my lungs out. Do you people know the NGE - Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody? That's one good AMV.. I thought I'd make a Weird Al - Bohemian Polka version out of it. Scrapped that project.. just didn't feel like making a yet another NGE AMV. If you want to do this.. please, go ahead. Then there's the Mahoromatic - Kyo - Derniere Dansé. Another great video, please do go and find it.. it is listed here. In this case, the author says it's his/her first work.. and yes, that shows in some scenes. I'm THIS close to ask him if I could do a remake ^_^ (though I'm not, since I lack the raws).
Actually if someone'd do an AMV that has the same music and anime used than some of my existing videos.. even if they'd openly admit (especially then) that they are based after my vid.. I'd be honoured. "please go ahead and make a better one for me, ok ^^". Even if it turns out bad.. *shrug* "nice try, mate. thanks, I really appreciate the thought, though." Ok.. so this was example IF the case is (what I think most of these "claiming-people" fear of) a direct remake out of your "hey I thought this up first shithead!" video.
btw. I really hope people read my rant this far.. I just KNOW there's going to be pile of e-mails from people who only read the first couple of paragraphs and send mail like "you are SO FULL OF CRAP you f*ckn' sh*thead". That's if people read this at all *sigh* If they do read whole thing (and understand it.. that's whole another point) and send mail like than, then I don't mind.. people have right for their own opinions.
Anyway.. I hope people'd be more open and interest of other people and their work. Instead of going to their throats first thing "hey this is my f*ckn idea!" ,they should just view their version.. "so this is their view for this, ok.." better? worse? different? same? sad? cool? funny? ..depends on the case in hand. I'm speaking in general here.
I admit there is one little point where this way of thinking has minor problems. Competitions. Yes. I'm not really into these competition things, but I don't mind people gathering to compete with their videos. I might even try this myself soon.. there's going to be some even here in the middle of nowhere. Anyway.. I also think it's wrong if someone makes a new version of some video that has won some competition and enter this new one into some other competition in hope of success. Though, I don't think this'll happen because people have common sense. Mostly. Simple way to handle this is that if the video has entered into a competition before, then same video made by someone else (note, someone else) is not allowed to enter. In case of same video with totally different theme, people who run the competition should work it out and decide it with themselves. I really believe people can work this problem out.. so this is enough from my part.
I better cut this before I'll fill the whole server ^_^'
What I wanted to say in short is that please don't let this think stop your artistic ambition to make an AMV.
"Go forth and create AMVs people" :)
Sorry about the language and other colourfull use of words.. I have been listening too much Denis Leary lately and it really shows. I could start whole another rant about "sources of inspiration and uses for these sources" but I'll let it go this time. This journal entry has been 95% of pure mindflow. I'm sorry if I have offended some people with this. so..
"Go forth and create AMVs people... AND PULL UP YOUR PANTS!"
