JOURNAL: evil_genius_39 (Jared Counts)

  • My world is a tsunami/ It's bearin' right down on me/ It's all I see/ Plan B/ Is no help at all 2002-09-11 03:39:30 Yet another lyric to start a journal. This one's from "Laughing" by Chomsky, off of Onward Quirky Soldiers (great CD ^_^). Still haven't worked on Tenchi v. 2.0, with school and goofing around with my friends has gotten in the way. I still haven't gotten a job, which I need to change quickly. I might be getting a job as an assistant to one of my professors, which would be nice (work on campus, not a heavy workload, get to know the professor). The professor teaches my Web Technologies I class, in which I will learn the HTML I need to make my website NOT SUCK ANYMORE!! YAY! evilgenius.firehead.org won't look like crap anymore >X-D On a really good note, I got a good deal on a monitor. My parents' monitor started displaying only a sickly shade of yellow, since one of the color guns went out, so, needless to say, they had to replace it. They went and bought a monitor for $150, and right after they got it home, I found out about a deal I could get through my neighbor Jeff. He went up to Dallas and found a Sony Trinitron 20" monitor for only $70. It's not new, but it's still in very good shape. So, my parents bought my old monitor for $70, and I got this monitor essentially for free. Not a bad deal, if I do say so myself. The thing's as heavy as a ton of bricks, but who cares, it's big ^_^

Oh yeah, on the AMV thing, two other things have gotten in the way: space issues, and GTA3. On the first one, I keep filling up my hard drives (one is still full of vob files from the Tenchi DVDs) with anime. I found this guy on Direct Connect with from whom I canget really great download speeds, so I have gotten quite a bit. That, and the stuff I had to salvage from my sister's computer before it ate it all. I need some more blank CDs. I've been burning them like crazy, but they tend to go fast when you're burning series where each episode is 150-200MB apiece @_@ Oh well, it's pretty late. I should hit the sack soon. Later.

  • So long sweet summer/ I stumbled upon you and grateful basked in your waves 2002-09-01 03:44:52 Dashboard Confessional is cool. Wait, rephrase that, Dashboard *was* cool. Getting too mainstream nowadays. Very "Teen People", as my friend Darren put it. Anyhow, fun times are being had tonight. Got my sister's zip drive earlier. Had to get the drive and the SCSI card it was hooked to, and help her install her new 48X burner (is that much speed really even necessary? I don't think she even has CDs that will burn at that speed). Turns out the SCSI card was what was causing her drive letters to switch every time she rebooted, thus screwing up all of the files on the part of her hard drive I was stashing a bunch of anime. I lost a couple of episodes of Noir, one of Vandread, and two of Agent Aika, but the rest seem to have survived the trip okay. Lost a shitload of AMVs, though. Luckily, I think most of them on there were ones that I had on CD, but still, it's just a huge pain in the ass. I wanted to put them on our local server, but the ones I could move were screwed, and the rest just up and disappeared. Not a trace. I had some of them disappear, only to reappear later on, but not this many, and not for this long. I wish she had gotten that burner before, so I could have just dumped all of those on CD and uploaded them later. Oh well, c'est la vie *he sighs, looking fearfully at the stack of CDs he'll have to go through to get the rest of the AMVs*. Man, oh man, I have some reading to do, which I should have done before now, but whatever. I have until around 5PM tomorrow, when I have to meet with some of my fellow Broadcast and Film Writing students and plan out a public service announcement. I think I can do, or at least BS well enough to get through. I should get some reading done before I go to bed, so no more babble from me.

  • Give it up, cause I can see through you/ You know that I, do anything for you 2002-08-31 04:03:45 Ohisashiburi, desu ne? Haven't been bck here in quite a while. Not much of anything exciting happened over the summer. Went back to Tulsa to visit some family, hung out and shot some pool with my friends, and watched a lot of TV. Other than that, I spent the majority of my time rotting away at work. When I was at work I wanted to work on videos, but I was too tired to mess with them when I got home. Fun. I did get started on version 2 of the Tenchi vid, but I kept getting sidetracked by either a.)planning other future videos, b.)playing Jedi Knight 2 (snicketty-snoinch, fuckin' Jedi-style), c.)listening to all the new CDs I got from my friends, or d.)having to figure out why my computer or my parents' computer would not boot up (or turn on at all for that matter). First, we thought the power supply was shot, so we replaced the case and power supply (it was cheaper, and would make future work more convenient). That didn't work. So, we ended up replacing the motherboard, processor, RAM, and video card. They ended up with an AMD Duron 1.1 GHz, Shuttle AK32L motherboard with onboard sound, ATI RagePro 128 (my old video card), and 256MB PC2100 DDR RAM. For around $150 total, that's not too bad of a deal. I bought some of the same RAM, except my stick was bad (13 passes through MemTest86, and I racked up around 7.8 million errors. Fun). Inevitably, I decided to just stick it in and not test it first, so as soon as I start Win2K, it reboots itself and tells me that my primary login is now corrupted and somewhat nonexistent. Now, that's just peachy. So I log in as Administrator, but the RAM had done damage to some of the Windows Management programs, so I have programs crashing on me every two minutes or so. I moved everything I need to over to my second drive, and nuked the little fucker. Works pretty well now, and my new stick of RAM is on it's way to me now. Should get to my house sometime tomorrow (thank you free 2 day Fedex). I'll add that in, and sometime I would like to get another hard drive, maybe one of those 120GB jobies that I keep hearing about, but that won't happen until I get a job for the school year. I might work with Lowe's (even though the store manager is a weasly little tool), but I'm also going to try for some of the internships around campus. There's one that's right up my alley, so I need to get my shit together and apply :-P

Anyhow, on to classes. I think this semester is going to be fun. I'm taking Intermediate Japanese (HAI!!!!!), Multimedia Production (Photoshop, web design, and Macromedia Director), Web Technologies (html), Broadcast and Film Writing, and Intro to Astronomy (one of these things is not like the other). I was going to take Non-Linear Editing (I'm sure no one on this site knows what that is. Hmmmmm, let's think....BARNT), but I got booted, since I hadn't filled some of the prereqs. Oh well, another time.

Now on to current events. I am all alone right now. My roommate is in Cinncinati, my suitemates went home, Meredith went home, and Carol went to Pasadena or something. So, that leaves me with not a whole lot to do. My big plans for tonight were to do my laundry and watch the TV series of X (soooooooo much better than the movie. Can anyone say "character development"?). I'm still kicking myself for not taking up Adriel (cute freshman from down the hall) on her offer to come and watch a movie with her and some other people. I didn't know how much longer I would be up, since I had a weird morning (thanks to my roommate paying me to drive him to the airport at 5 in the morning), and was just then realizing how tired I was. Oh well, another time. Story of my life. Bah, this is bumming me out. Besides, I'm about to fall asleep on the keyboard. I'll be back another day to babble on endlessly at you. Oyasumi.
  • Prince Roger Nelson/ His Royal Badness/ The man in the purple cape 2002-05-16 01:41:23 I don't feel like checking all of my usual journals, due to the 56k connection I'm stuck with, the Jedi Knight 2 patch I'm downloading, and my general laziness. I moved home last Friday, got all of my stuff arranged Monday, and even found a job (back at Lowe's, oh well). I got most of my grades (no Con Law yet), and I've got a B- and two A-'s so far, so things are looking good. I'm probably going to be away from the journals for most of the summer, unless I get some of this fabled "video work" done that I keep talking about. I first need to clean up some hard drive space, since I've got a lot of anime and other shows sitting around. I might redo the Tenchi vid first to get back in the groove, and then move on from there. Anyhow, I'm gearing up for this weekend, since Meredith, Chris, Dathan, Lauren, and I are all meeting up at Meredith's house to hang out one last time before splitting for the summer. Probably gonna spend tomorrow vegging out or hanging with Darren, since he's moving back from Austin. Gotta get all my laziness in before Monday, since I start working again, which is gonna suck a lot of the fun out of my summer. Oh well. Got some new CDs from Michael, which is great, since I still haven't finished listening to the one's I got from him last time. Oh well, a burden I am willing to bear. I may even pull a few more ideas from them. Especially that "Pop Goes Punk" CD. That should be interesting ^_^ Well, it's late, and I should go. Oyasumi.
  • I know what you're thinkin'/ I know how you're feelin'/ Believe me/ You're not alone 2002-05-05 02:20:37 This next week is going to suck hardcore. I have to get my finals out of the way, find a job, AND move out of the dorms. Geez louise. As if the finals aren't back enough. I have so much reading to do for Con Law, and so many vocab words for Japanese to memorize that I'm going to be pulling my hair out by Tuesday. Yerk. I meant to apply over at the new Sam's that is opening near my house, but I don't know whether or not they're hiring yet. Or I need to look elsewhere, before the high schools get out and no one is hiring. And moving, well, that just blows. I moved a few things back yesterday, but I still have a ways to go. Meredith will be hanging out over here a lot more for the next week, since her parents are taking everything but her clothes and her phone. The computer, TV, fridge, EVERYTHING is going tomorrow. Fun.

God, I feel like such a hack. I've made two videos, and I have so many plans to make more, but I haven't. Part is lack of motivation because of school. I always feel guilty if I sit down to edit when I should be reading. That, and I get so many ideas for a video, and when I sit down to work, I can't make it match the image in my head, which is discouraging. That can also be attributed to some impatience on my part. The video I was working on might be a bit over my head at the moment, too. I don't think I am good enough yet to make it work the way I want it to. Lump some technical problems on top of that, and you have my present state. Maybe the summer vacation is just what I need. Some time to sit back and relax, without any type of class load, and just find some time and edit. I seem to work best when I can set aside 5 or 6 hours and just hack away. I hope to have one or two shorter videos done by the time school starts again (which means I'll have to start moving some of my anime off onto CD. Dur :-P) Oh well, I guess I just need to stick with it and see what happens. Like Hsien was saying a day or two ago: I guess there's a cheesy "never give up" moral to that or something. Yeah, what he said.

Oh yeah, and my car starts on the first try now. Yatta! Now if I can just get the A/C and the gas gauge working, then we'll be in business. One step at a time, I guess.

Thus ends another crappy rant/recap from the bowels of the mind of Jared Counts. Thank you and good night.
