Been listening to a punk band from Austin named "Cruiserweight" the last couple of days (the title of the journal is from their song Yellow Lights), and they make some good music. Also found out about a band called Lisa Loves Milhouse through the MacHall website, and found some more of their stuff on mp3.com. Not bad at all.
Well, anyhow, I'm in a odd, kinda bemused mood. Not bad, just odd. Yesterday was weird, since I spent most of it pretty much dead to the world. I went to bed around 1:30 or 2AM, but an hour before that I took 2 Benadryl to help clear up my head. One of the side effects says "might cause drowsiness", but nowhere on the box did it say that it could cause a "temporary, sinus-medication-induced coma". I eventually woke up around 5:30PM, much to my dismay. I had set my alarm for 9:30AM, and apparently I annoyed the hell out of the people in the neighboring rooms of my dorm. I didn't hear my alarm at all. It didn't even register. My roommate wasn't any help, since he left the room before it went off, and didn't return until about 4 or 5. So, I missed much of the day, but after about 15 or 16 hours of sleep, one tends to wake up feeling very refreshed, which I did. And that brings us to today. I didn't have any need for going to sleep within the last night, so I'm still awake. But today is an interesting day. It's one of those really cool strange days. It's kinda dreary, overcast, and pretty cold (at least for Houston). It's kinda wet too. Your breath unfurls before you like a small flag of respiration, waving proudly before evaporating into the ether. Well, after whittling away the night studying kanji and playing video games, I went to my Comm. Research Methods class, a pretty boring, kinda pointless class (I know, I'll probably find it to be one of my most useful classes ever at some point in time, but not now, 'cause it's boring). However, today was different. I spent most of the time in class talking to an extremely cute little redhead named Lynn. I realize that doing this makes me a bad student or something, but I really don't care, because she is really cool. I'm suddenly glad I took that class. I shouldn't get too smitten, since I've only talked to her once, but hell, who cares? Well, I need to get to my next class, which then leads to Japanese (kanji quiz......eek....*clenches*), and then it is lunch time. Later.

Yes, you read the time of this entry right. It is almost 6 in the morning, and I have an 8 o' clock class. I guess taking a nap in the middle of the day (even though it was a fitful one at that) will do that to you. Well, no sleep for Jared. Poop. Been reading several online comics lately, which would explain why I haven't gotten any work done, for school or on my personal projects. Here's a few I recommend:
http://www.megatokyo.com (I know I've mentioned this one before, but the artwork and plot are just damn cool. Fred/Piro can scribble out doodles that are better than what I can manage on a good serious day)
http://www.little-gamers.com (The site states it well - "Cute n' Shit")
http://machall.keenspace.com (Great artwork, funny plot, "realistic" depiction of college students = good.)
I swear, I'm never going to finish this X video at the rate I'm going, since I captured the video 2 weeks ago (and I didn't even finish doing that) and haven't touched it since then. Oh well. I need a week or two where I can just sit down and hammer away at it for like 6 hours at a time. That's how I made my Mononoke video, and I thought it turned out well. Speaking of video projects, I think I found a blow off class to take. Non-linear editing. Basically, at least as Dave and Al describe it, you cut and paste stuff together in Premiere. That's about it. I do that anyway. Yippee.
Talked to my friend Darren yesterday. Told me he's taking a weightlifting class at UT, along with all of his Chem E stuff. Also, since breaking up with his girlfriend Meredith (not the one I've mentioned before), he has also developed a taste for punk (if New Found Glory and Starting Line are considered punk) and emo (Get Up Kids, Jimmy Eat World, etc). That whole girlfriend thing was ugly, and I don't think his phone will ever be the same (would you be the same if you got thrown across the room? I doubt it) I don't think I'll go any further into it. Needless to say, the musical taste change was not entirely surprising. Not to say he really has ever had static musical tastes, but they are fairly stable. I think. Whatever.
Arrgh. Need food. HUNGRY.

Ah, finally, Hollywood Video has pulled their heads out and got their shit together, cause I'm getting paid!! About time. My mother's friend's husband was about to write a letter to them and ask them about the situation, he being a corporate lawyer and all. But, thankfully, it didn't come to that. Anyhow, that IDE card should come in the mail sometime within the next week or so, and then I can get my parents' computer out of my hair. And while I've been waiting for that, I have gotten nothing done. I'm probably pretty far behind on my reading for class, but oh well.
This weekend was fun. I finally saw American Pie 1 and 2 on Friday, which were both pretty funny. Then, last night, I went with some friends to see Lord of the Rings again, which is just such a terrific movie. The acting and story were great, and the landsacpes and cinematography was just gorgeous. While waiting for the movie to start, all of us went to the Home Depot next to the theater and goofed around, which mainly involved the three girls that were with us (myself and my two suitemates) running around and trying to hide. After the movie, we went to WalMart and did a bit of shopping. I had to pick up a few miscellaneous things, and I also got the DVD of Legend of the Drunken Master, even though I shouldn't have, considering my financial situation. Oh well, I can allow it. I hardly ever buy anything anyway. Jeff bought Office Space, which we watched when we got back at 1:30 or so. I didn't get to bed until 6 or so, and that is going to make getting to sleep at a decent time tonight to make it to my 8 AM class tomorrow. But I had fun. Decent amounts of sleep do not make for fun memories.
I thought I would leave you with a couple of interesting quote that someone sent to me:
"I love going to the playground and watching the children run and scream. They don't know I'm only using blanks."
"Lord, please grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill becasue they pissed me off."

<WARNING: Large, Excessively Mad Tiraid Following>
Wow, I didn't know that a company could be this fucking incompetent. I gave up about 85 hours of my life, busting my ass for just over minimum wage, and I quit there over 2 weeks ago, and I still haven't gotten any goddamn money!! They keep telling me that they're working on it, but they've got their heads so far up their asses that they can't see the forest for the trees. I know I'm mixing metaphors, but I don't give a rat's ass. I'm sorry, but I started working there before Christmas, and still nothing. They are not l337, they deserve de4th.
The best part is, I tried to buy an IDE controller card so I could finally fix my parents' computer, but the store I tried to buy it at (the only computer store within a 5 or 10 mile radius) and of course, they only take cash or check. This is great, since I am relying on my credit card now. I could have bought the card if I emptied out my checking account and used over half of the cash in my wallet right now. So, I had to tell my dad to go to Best Buy and try to find one himself. That should be interesting, since he doesn't really know what he is looking for. Oh well.
<Rant Ending. All Clear, You Can Come Out of Hiding.>
On the upside, I just got finished watching the Shawshank Redemption with my friends. That is such a great movie, but there is something oddly unnerving about Tim Robbins. He's so calm and detached and eerie. But still it's a great movie. Speaking of Tim Robbins, I also need to see the Hudsucker Proxy again. It was such a bizarre movie, but really involving. I haven't seen it in a long time, so I need to see it again.
Really cool link of the day: http://www.megatokyo.com
Really good online comic. Be sure to check out the shirts and stuff too. Also, make sure you can read hacker (l337), otherwise you might miss out.
Well, I have an 8 o'clock class tomorrow, that I am actually going to try to go to this time (I missed one lecture, and I make it sound like I haven't gone in a month). Adios.

Well, so much for getting work done on my current AMV project. I've spent most of the weekend trying to strip my parents' old computer of certain parts, and dropping them into a newer computer that my sister used to use. The actually process of putting together and taking apart is not that hard, but when I discovered the (WARNING!!! waxing technical, may become incomprehensible!!) BIOS on my sister's old computer won't recognize a hard drive over 8 GB, which is great, considering my parents bought a 40 GB drive with the specific intention of dropping it in the newer computer. So, late last night, since I couldn't sleep anyway, I went online and found a BIOS upgrade, which will allow larger drives. Thank you, Gigabyte Motherboard website. (Technical jargon clearing, it is safe to proceed reading.)
I had a 10 o' clock class that I missed today, since I didn't get to sleep until almost 6 AM. I went to bed around 2:45 or 3, which would have been fine, but no, I decided to play insomniac for the night. So, I didn't go to my one class today. Fun.
Oh yeah, congrats to EK for getting the site moved. On the costs and stuff, I would be glad to help out, but I'm currently broke, since Hollywood Video has it's head up it's ass (see previous journals for explanation). Otherwise, I would donate, or at least buy a T-shirt.
Instead of working on my AMV, I've been playing a lot of Max Payne, which is a damn cool game. That, and I found a kung-fu mod for the game, which allows you to do backflips and wallruns and all sorts of interesting stuff.
Ugh, hungry, must eat.
