Free Credit Report.com video!

Post by MishaGirl » Fri Jul 04, 2008 5:24 pm

I eventually want to do a series of the other free credit report.com commercials as well. Please give my video a try and review/opinion...I want to improve. It is only 30ish seconds long and to One Piece.

It's a good idea and One Piece is definitely the logical choice. I watched this and got all kinds of funny little concepts about how to spoof it. :)

I would recommend cutting out the lip sync except where it fits as emphasis (Yeehaw). The music has more of a reflective narrative than a "this is what's happening right now" theme, and if you were going to lip sync some of it, then you need to lip sync all of it. Same thing applies to parodying the song - if you're going to parody the commercial, then parody the commercial, not just one small part of the commercial (in this case, the pirate-themed restaurant), because this song is about a lot more than just a schmuck in a restaurant - in fact, it's funny BECAUSE it's about something else entirely, namely some guy who screwed up and is now suffering the humiliating consequences.

A lot of the lyric sync could have been set up better. It's not enough to hit right ON the key word(s), you have to give the viewer enough time to process what's going on in the scene, then connect that scene with the word(s). This means the whole thing has to flow logically from one scene to the next, so that the viewer is properly anticipating where the song is going and is therefore going along with the storyline you're building.

Along these lines, some of the scenes were kind of random and had very little to do with the song - the opening sequence, for example, where he's talking about his state of dress. There's nothing there visually to support the lyrics. Same thing happens when the song's talking about monitoring credit - it's simply a collection of kitchen scenes that don't really reflect the fact that the lyrics are speaking about a better situation (have him fantasizing about being under a palm tree with a beer or something - better yet, treasure). I'm not saying get everything spot-on with the lyrics, that's usually overkill and often very difficult, but get creative - much of the lyrics focus on someone heavily regretting something - show the character looking depressed, angry, annoyed, etc. Have him reacting in emotionally logical ways to the themes of the song.

Also, technically, there seemed to be interlacing running about. :)

I forgot about downloading this video.. and when I went to open it later.. wondering "what was this..." I thought someone was calling me! (It's my ringtone.)

Ok.. after that random aside.. I like it! Only thing I would recommend.. finding a slightly better quality source for the first part of the amv. Kudos ^^

I liked the "stole my identity" scene.

(awww substituted for many o's, due to word filter)

heh - Now I want to see someone do the 'instead of lookin fly and rollin fat, my legs are sticking to the vinyl and my posse's getting laughed at' one.

I had to lol at the 'enroll in Triple Advantage' part. Nice correlation between the anime and the commercial! :)
