Mystery Anime Theatre 3000

I think the subject is pretty self-explatory. Is there anyone out there doing or planning this kind of a project?

I've always loved that video, Zarx.

Sorry. Just had to pop in and say that. ^_^;;

Not really since you changed the original concept too much. I'm talking about replicating the whole idea of the show with anime. I'm sure there are many bad anime films, scenes and moments where the MST3k's humour would hit harder than any Hell clip made to date.

In the past, an anime version of MST3K was part of Otakon's Friday night entertainment, with them riffing such titles as M.D. Geist, Samurai Shodown, and Attack of the Supermonsters (a film that definitely should have on the original MST3K).

As the Crusher Joe eyecatch comes up for the fortieth time: "And WHAT movie are we watching again?"

In fact, Matt Pyson was one of the writers and voice actors, IIRC.

On January 25th, 1997, the Sci-Fi channel presented the MST3K "Home Game". They aired "The Day the World Ended" with empty seats at the bottom, and collected comments via IRC. They then subtitled the show in real time with the best comments. I thought this was cool, so in 1997, I made a subtitle script for Battle Arena Toshinden. I made an overlay with seats and a few anime characters, and had subtitles in different colours so they could "talk" to each other.

The Otakon crew did make fun of Toshinden one of the years that they did it, but either it was after I did mine, or I wasn't aware of their performance. Anyway, Matt Pyson gave them a copy of mine and apparently they enjoyed it. I called it "Anime Kagaku Theatre 3000". (Kagaku = Science) Here's the ancient title screen. :)

Consumer-level video editing was pretty primitive back then (what I had, at least :)), so it was a straight up sub, with no invention exchange or "skits" inserted. I did put a sponsor screen at the beginning, though.

You should upload it, or at least put it on your site.
