Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Somewhere Far Beyond

Somewhere Far Beyond
A young man goes mad, and loses his love, and his soul, to the darkness. Now, he is but a pawn...

Anime: Rurouni Kenshin OVA 1 Trust And Betrayal
Artist: Blind Guardian
Song: The Black Chamber

Not a whole lot to say, really. I felt like the video more or less made itself (hence why it only took me five hours or so). I rather enjoyed making it, and I hope you enjoy watching it.

Nice bait and switch, bud. I come in here expecting the culmination of this disc, and all I get is "Black Chamber".

Seriously, this is a nice piece, though I really don't agree with the initial cutting. While it may make technical sense to change scenes on each note, the result is that the video appears to move much faster than the music, and really breaks up coherency. As much as it hurts to say it, this is what piano keys were invented for: to follow notes for technical reasons while the main video moves at the significantly slower tempo (~80 bpm) of the overall piece. Of course, there are ways to do this without piano keys, but the same theory of small components displayed over a unifying matrix still applies.

The editing is well-handled, and quality is well-preserved, but the video does feel a little squished due to the fast cutting agaisnt slow music. Of course, it may just feel faster to me because I'm used to the version from Forgotten Tales, which is somewhat longer ("There's still light/In a different world" and "Dancing alone in an empty room/A cruel and painful game" lines are omitted in this one).

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.
CHOPWORK - abominations of maceration
skywide, armspread : forward, upward
Coelem - Tenebral Presence single now freely available

Well, I was aware that people wouldn't like the rather.. intense would be a good word, editing style of this video. Glad you liked it beyond that, though.

I just edited this the way I wanted to edit it - fast cuts with heavy drama. Just what I like to do :P it may ruin it for some people, but I rather like it.
