What does it take?
I'm going to skip my usual long, (melo)dramatic intro and get to the point this time.
I've been getting a little irritated lately with the AMV Announcements forum, but rather than go into detail and complain about something that will ultimately result in this topic being locked, I want to turn my thread into a constructive discussion. I have lots of questions, so bear with me. To elaborate...
When you are perusing the Announcements forum, what makes you want to look at a thread? What hooks you initially? Is it something in the title? What should it say? Does the title not matter at all? Does only the content of the thread matter? Do you only look at threads created by people you know are good editors?
With those questions in mind, I'd like some feedback. Honestly, this is partly to indulge my curiosity, but who knows? Maybe this will help someone to create a thread that will actually be looked at and responded to...
...which brings me to the reason I even started this topic. There are several smaller reasons, but the main one is this: the last two times I posted an announcement, I only got, like, a single reply on one of them. Rather than stew over what I possibly did wrong, just tell me this: what should I do next time? What makes you want to even consider looking at a thread in that forum?
Again, if I can put aside my annoyance, then I only request that those who respond to this thread do as well. I want this to be as constructive as possible.
Thanks. ^_^

Three things. First, I check the authors, and go straight to the editors that make videos I like. Second, if the title includes the artist and it is one I like, I'll check. Third, if the title sounds intriguing, I'll check. But I only reply if I plan on getting the video, which is rare because it usually takes too long to download.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

It depends how much time I have and how bored I am when I check the threads, but I usually just click on the threads that are by an editor that I like, the threads that have quite a few replies, or if the title interests me.
Presentation is a big thing in the announcements forum. For example, when I look at a thread, if someone announces the title in all caps lock or if the title has bad grammar or spelling, that turns me away most of the time. Same with titles that just say "first AMV" or "new AMV". And then in the actual message part of the post, if you don't say much about the video other than what the song and anime are, it usually doesn't interest me enought to download it unless if the song/anime combination interests me. If the creator has nothing interesting to say about the video, then it's likely that there's nothing interesting about the video. And we all just want to see videos that we think we'll enjoy.

If I know the creator or if the thread has lots of replies. A turn off for me would be a long post telling me what the video is about. That just tells me "Hey, I couldn't get the story in as good as I thought I could, but hey, if I explain it, maybe you'll understand my choices". The hell..? I won't understand anything just because you tell me that's what it's supposed to do. Execution is execution even if it is weak. :/

was that really necessary?TheUnlimited wrote:if i see koopiskeva posting in that forum... i'lll definitely watch that vid..![]()

For me, it is usually the subject title...and not just meaning the title of the vid, but also the tone of the creator...
I don't like it when someone posts something along the lines of 'OMG CHECK OUT MY LATEST VID IT ROXXORS U MUST WATCH LOL' or "MY THREE LATEST VIDS THAT I JUST MADE IN THE LAST 15 MINS LOL!X21'
of course those are just examples...since I don't think you can even have a subject that big

/end

Oh how convenient. A theory about God that doesn't require looking through a telescope.

Normally when I post topics in there, I try to include something in the title that might grab the reader, like a quote or title to describe the video, rather than come right out and say what the video is. After all, seeing 'New Romantic FF AMV' (for example for my new video) most likely wouldn't get many responses in the thread, because it's such an overused title.
Although, my type of titles don't get a lot of hits very often anyway lol. Oddly enough, my last video (A Casual Romance) got the most responses ever in one of my threads lol total of something like 10 or so
But back on topic: When I look at videos in there, I look for interesting titles. Because after all, it's usually the title that will draw you in to read the first post of the thread.
