Azumanga Daioh (Pedophilia and how far is too far)
Hey Guys,
The Azumanga Daioh launch for Australia is a few days off, but having premiered at AVcon last weekend Madman were gracious enough to give me copy, 'aint that nice of them Funny thing is... The OFLC (Office of Film and Literature Classification) gave it a whopping MA15+ (Persons under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian)which sits it right next to titles such as Spriggan and the 6th disc of Excel Saga (rating higher than say, Akira or Ghost in the Shell)
Talking with Madman, I heard that This was the harshed rating of any of the English releases, I'm assuming ADV and ADV-UK. Reasoning behind this was attributed to the actions of Kimura in the 4th episode. While I'm still waiting on the next volumes, which will probably have a different rating. It rather interesting to see this rated so high with a tame translation and content in general.
How well is it being received over in the US?

i just bough perfect blue today. MA15+ high level violence and adult themes. no ention of sex scenes. and azumanga diaoh is rated the same as a movie with high levels of violence, and two rape scenes ? in a word, FUCKING IDIOTS.
oh and, here's another example. cradle to the grave. average action movie with one or two scenes that contain some blood. nothing realy grotesque. MA15+ . paradise road. women in a japanese POW camp. some of the scenes in that movie are so disturbing im not gona even dare mention them on this site. rating ? M15 (meaning a 8 year old could legaly watch it). yess, things here sux

I can't say I would agree with it getting such a harsh rating. I mean, there are just in-jokes about the matter, it's not like it was meant seriously nor was it shown visually being acted upon in a lewd manner. And what's more, it manages to be funny rather than tasteless. Sometimes the people responsible for rating these should try and be more subjective.

According to Amazon UK, it's rated 12 here, although the release is not due until August 16th. I imagine it's due to the very same issue.

If you read my post, you'd know Madman gave me a copy in regard to my work at AVCon... does that sound like a 14 year old?Brolly345 wrote:Well, if your old enough the rating system doesn't effect you. So if its rated MA15+ it doesn't stop you from buying it.
You are older than 15 right? Stupid question.
