Evangelion: Death (Timeline)

Post by Anime Jedi » Sat Dec 20, 2003 10:10 pm

I was wondering if someone could explain this certain part because it doesn't seem to make sense.

You know there are a lot of quick bumpers before some scenes, giving an idea of when this certain event is occuring?

Well, at one point we see Shinji when he just arrives at NERV. Then it says "several months later" and we see him and Kaworu. Then it say "18 months earlier" and he's practicing the chello, and Rei, Asuka and Kaworu all enter a bit later. If Shinji had only met Rei, Asuka and Kaworu sometime within those "several months", how could he be doing this practice with them so much before that? Anyways, just something I couldn't understand.

The practice is symbolic metaphor. It didn't take place in "reality"

I suppose that makes sense. And it was what I kinda figured. But I couldn't dismiss it as being fictional on my own accord, you know, because of that little title. I couldn't help but think that something was going on. So I take it then that there was no reason at all to have the title "18 months earlier"?

One more question, and it's nothing about all the symbolism (I could get mobbed for that), but when Shinji fights the 4th angel (?), he starts off by "hitting the enemy with his own smoke". What in the world does this mean?

I think they say: "Hiding the enemy with your own smoke." Just because his smoke from his gun is keeping him from seeing the Angel. Hiding it.

Could be wrong though. :?

This is going to sound dumb, but I assumed the practice was meant to represent "instrumentality".

That would be an obvious assumption no?

Not to mention the fact that she's playing second violin.

Would Asuka ever accept being second in anything?
