bishounenstalker: if you think a thread should be locked. make a post in the mod's drop box, where they are more likely to see it, rather than in the thread you're referring to, where 1) if a mod sees it, they would already be reading the topic and have come to a decision of whether the thread needs locking, and 2) it derails the thread.

on the original topic. lip flap can be used intentionally by the creator to get across effects she wants to get across, especially where dissocation between the music and video is desired. however i've seen it more frequently as an unintentional distractor. a good suggestion would be for creators not to completely avoid lip flap, but to know why they left it in wherever they did.

Sometimes lip movements to me can match with a certain feel or element in the music besides the vocals..

umm... your forgetting one major important factor that AMVs have over watching the original source.... the music. One of the nice things about some sentimental amvs is seeing a song thats not originally for the Anime source it used, coupled with it and accentuating it so well that it sometimes gives a better impression and mood than the original scene in the anime itself did. Theres also ideas that combine multiple anime sources that have the same mood and sentimental feel and putting them to such a song aswell, Take Vlad's Memories Dance for example. Then there's also the fact that the AMV (when done right anyway) usually condenses the more memorial scenes in 3-5 minutes, giving you enough nastolgia of your favorite Anime rather than having to watch the entire 24 episode series again. As you can tell, I like me a good sentimental AMV ^^

As for the original topic at hand, I to use lipflap for the purpose of the video alot, and it does not bother me when its done profesionally. WHen it looks bad to me is if the mouth is flapping too fast and/or too much for the particular scene. Sometimes I actually spend more time editing lipflap to look better than it would've taken me to just paste a closed mouth over the scene because it would just look too static otherwise. Most times when I do this though, there is another character on the screen, or in the scene (possibly in the next scene of the amv or something) giving the impression that he/she is talking to someone, not to the viewer. You just have to know how to work it so it doesn't look tacky.
