I agree (seeing as my profile reflects this.) My vid, Shoot the Kitties, is my most downloaded. Because there really aren't that many Hello Kitty vids out there. And mine uses Korn. Which is an odd combo. So between HK activists and the WTF factor, that is my most DLed. But unconventional combos don't automatically mean lots of DLs, particularly when you use a most used anime with a concept that has been done before and a song people aren't particularly looking for (like my InuYasha vid, which is my struggling vid.)What you put in the comments also may effect DLs. If you put something like "this vid sucks, don't DL it" or "B3ST VID 3VAR!!!!!11111" or "I know it has subs, but . . ." or no comment at all, or stuff like that, it can sometimes turn people off from watching it. Or if you put something interesting in the comments or just a good description of the concept, that can sometimes get more people to DL it. (Kinda like the blurb on the back of a book. Many times, that is what makes people decide to buy a book they'd never heard of until they saw it at the bookstore.)Arigatomina wrote:Anime. Popularity and availability of. That's the biggest factor in non-pimped vids. Take an anime with a small fangroup. If there aren't many other vids with that anime, yours will get the attention of *all* the fans of that anime. Because it's the only one there is. If there are lots of vids for the anime and yours happens to focus on an underused character, again, yours gets downloaded because it's the only one for those fans to get. Take a common anime and do a new twist to it, comedy where comedy is rare, action/serious where serious is rare, and again yours is one-of-a-kind for that fangroup.
Those random people see that 'special interest' vid and...sometimes...they'll talk about it. All it takes is one person to pimp your vid on their home anime forum and you'll get a sudden rash of downloads out of seemingly nowhere.
Even a very bad amv will get this sort of treatment if it uses the right anime, a unique focus with the right anime, and/or is downloaded by someone who'll pimp it for you in a forum that specializes in that anime.

That's why I downloaded it. I thought Hello Kitty....Korn......o.o....wtf....wurpess wrote: I agree (seeing as my profile reflects this.) My vid, Shoot the Kitties, is my most downloaded. Because there really aren't that many Hello Kitty vids out there. And mine uses Korn.
But it was funny, and I enjoyed it.
Prime example for me would be my llama llama duck.
the video sucks beyond all universal belief, it uses multiple animes that have nothing to do with eachother, it was made in vegas but rendered in WMV, it took under thirty minutes to make, render, and upload, and yet: people still download it. It is my most downloaded amv, and I get mostly comments like 'wtf o_o' from it. People download it because they see that
a)that song was never used before (for good reason, i now see)
b)i had something to say about it, and I ADMITED that I didn't put any kind of effort in it :/
But if you look on the opinion scores, for some reason, they're higher than I ever expected. The reason people like it so much is because it amuses them (-.-) Not because it is a good video. I think people liked it BECAUSE it sucked. It even got put into a mep as a segment. >>
I think this can considered the DTSEM Syndrome, liking vids because they sucked. (I'm not saying YOUR vid sucked, jsut mine

that must be it... the popular one is my first with premiere elements (an flcl vid) so its not my best... but it focuses on lord canti which most tend not to... that and if you really like canti the title pretty much begs you to download it... Give it up for Lord CantiArigatomina wrote:...get the attention of *all* the fans of that anime. Because it's the only one there is.
