Eva should be a REQUIRED anime, no ifs, ands, or buts. Like the others before me stated, Eva is one of the most brilliant masterpieces in animation history. The characters are developed extremely well. They will draw you into the Eva world and make their pain and joy seem so real. The plot is easy to follow for the most part (until the end), and then it makes you do some research. It seems rather shallow at first, but it is really unique and very intricate under that shallow facade. The references, both religious and other, are absolutely stunning. This is the part that you will have to do a lot of research on. I'm still learning new things about it every day. You will discover what the references point to, and that will just add to the flow of the story.

Get Eva. Don't waste a second thinking otherwise.

(Yes...I am THE Eva fanboy and damn proud of it. :D )

I think it's worth it. :)

I read so much material on Eva I could already talk about it comfortably without seeing a single episode. Oddly enough, the more I spoiled it for myself, the more I really wanted to see it.

It's an anime you have to think about in order to appreciate what the heck is going on.

It's something pretty much everyone is ought to see for themselves...

The up/down side?

It's a love-it-or-hate-it thing, yea.

Without making any assumptions about your current anime tastes, in general (from my observation) the ratio of people who like it to those who hate it is about 60:40 or even 55:45. And even if there's less of them, those who hate it REALLY hate it.

So, suit yourself. It's very deceptive, particularly mid-series, as far as its' true nature. Just when you think it's another (albeit cool) mecha anime, it goes into episodes upon episodes of blatant headfuck and psychological drama/horror.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Lone Wolf is part of the "OMG WTF EVA IS THE SHIT" post eva viewing camp. As for rah, if you can get volume 1 with the box, it's worth it.

I would definetly recommend watching Eva. I haven't finished it in English yet so I don't fully understand the end but I have a good idea. That gives away that the ending is real mindbender, but yes, definetey watch it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion. its not an anime, its an experience

8) I love Neon Genesis Evangelion. I just dont understand the anime fascination with cryptic and confusing endings.

I didnt have a problem with end of EVA but I could certainly see where alot of people would.

If you like mecha type animes I recommend it. But the ending might give you a headache.
