Anime Sequels
One of the things I like about anime is that there really are not to many sequels to great series. The reason I like this is because most of the time sequels end up being like Disney and all their god awful sequels. I like just having a series and knowing that I own it all without worrying about another one which is not even half as good coming out and forcing me to waste money because the anime happens to have a simlar title and universe as my orginal favorite
The reason I am saying this is because one Series I liked a lot .hack//sign now has a sequel .hack//roots. I know there are the games and that twighlight series, but they seemed to me more like off shots of the series than a true sequel. Just by judging of the cover of .hack//roots it seems like this will be a sequel. I proabably won't get this series, yet its existence does sort of annoy me knowing that there is a peice of the story I don't have, and I know this is how they make their money.
Well my main point of discussion anyway is do you think there should be sequels to your favorite series, and judging by the end of the first season do you really think the second season would work?
A few examples like Cowboy Bebop. How could you have a sequel? and if you did I don't think it would be all that great, and it would probably upset more fans than make them happy.
On the other hand Berserk proabably could only use a sequel if they made the series strickly following the manga. It might work following the TV series, but proabably not.
And then what about Azumanga Daioh. Would that sequel work?
So, then do you think there should be a sequel to your favorite anime series, and whether you do or not do you think the sequel would work and would you buy it?

Sequels are stupid. Especially for shows that don't need them, like Cowboy Bebop, everyone loves it because of the ending, so why would you want to go and ruin it by making it even longer? It's stupid.
The only anime I would like to see a CONTINUATION of (not sequel) would be to Fruits Basket, but I would think of that as more of a season 2, if anything. Since, they could still keep it going and follow the manga, it would be good.
But just continuing a story just to please fans or make money, yeah, those always suck.

There are several series that I do think should have continuations, but I don't know if you would be able to call them sequels. These are the series that made great animé but had to be cut off partway through the story because the manga wasn't finished yet.
Examples: Loveless, Kare Kano, Spiral, Fruits Basket.
I also wouldn't mind a sequel to The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (has one been confirmed yet?), even though that series had a very good ending. But again, this is because they've got more source material they could be working with: there are plenty of Suzumiya Haruhi light novels whose stories didn't make it into the animé series.

I don't know why they can't wait to make anime, that are based on the mangas, until after the mangas are almost done or done completely...all they end up with is incomplete series or lots of filler. It's annoying that they just can't wait.Scintilla wrote:There are several series that I do think should have continuations, but I don't know if you would be able to call them sequels. Scintilla's got a point! Let's not confuse sequels and source-justified continuations.
I'd spit and swear if they tried to make a sequel to FLCL. I think it's a short feature done to excellent completion, and milking it would really kill it.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Agreed wholeheartedly. I do wish, though, that GAiNAX would come up with something new and similarly groundbreaking and awe-inspiring; it feels like it's been a while.Otohiko wrote:I'd spit and swear if they tried to make a sequel to FLCL. The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya? I keep seeing at news sites where they say it's either just a hoax, it's not confirmed yet, or it has been officially confirmed. I don't know what to believe anymore. >>Scintilla wrote:I also wouldn't mind a sequel to The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (has one been confirmed yet?),
