Getting opinions when you're new is really tough. Due to the large number of editors and even large number of videos causes yours to get burried realy fast. OP exchange is the best bet early in to get your name out there without having to win contets or anything.

Because the people become tired of watching the 10.000th time the same scenes? What do you think, if you get your favourite meal every day for breakfest, lunch and dinner, when do you start to hate it? And how much faster that will happen, if a meal that you don't like at all is served you that way?gadimus wrote:On the DBZ note I suppose it makes sense that DBZ is over-done but why should that matter?
Lol, you posted at Aprils fools day, opinion exchange was disappeared in favor of sausage exchange. But that's no excuse, you expect the community to contribute to you, so if you were ready to contribute to the community, you should have noticed it another day.gadimus wrote:I didn't know there was opinion exchanges or anything like that I just read the titles and the only one that seemed to apply was announcement.

Well, if you are Homophobic you wouldn't download a Yaoi or Yuri video, because it's "Just not your Thing". Well, many people won't download DBZ videos cuz "It just ain't Their Thing". So, yes the video source can be a turn off to the ones who might give you feedback. Many kids in DBZ are going to say "Dat waz da choolist!" and that's about it. Sorry, but it is the truth of the Org and the world.gadimus wrote: On the DBZ note I suppose it makes sense that DBZ is over-done but why should that matter? If a person is new they don't know that (although being a viewer I knew this well).
I didn't know there was opinion exchanges or anything like that I just read the titles and the only one that seemed to apply was announcement.
People say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I guess that is exactly how they judge a book...

Well, then that's all that matters. Make videos for yourself first, for your audience second (if at all).gadimus wrote:I was really hoping to just hear what people enjoyed about it because I had a lot of fun making it.
Let's just think about this for a second. It's your first video. You use DBZ. The probability of there being anything especially spectacular about this AMV is very, VERY low...it's nothing to get offended by, I'd say the majority of editors start with videos like that. You just have to realize that if you're trying to get a lot of people to watch your video, you're going to have to make yourself stand out. DBZ does not accomplish this, and I'm sorry if you can't understand this.gadimus wrote:People say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I guess that is exactly how they judge a book...
We here tend to get videos that we think we'll like. Anything but doesn't really make sense. From past experience, I can say that there's only one DBZ video I've ever seen that I really enjoyed, and it was from a well-known editor who knew what he was doing. I've seen a fair share of DBZ videos...the anime isn't to my taste and 99% of the videos are just boring to me.
DBZ has been overdone. Period. If you're going to complain about people not watching/enjoying your video, you have to understand that it's most likely because we've seen it done a million times before and we want something new. If you can't deal with that...tough

Well, lets say you're a brand new sci-fi author. You're going to need a pretty cover and a catchy title to at least get people to notice your book in a book store, since there's ten million other sci-fi books out there, many of which that are already well known. And after you have their attention, you need a good back/inside cover synopsis to keep their attention so they'll buy the book. Advertising you ass off helps too. Because people aren't going to go around buying every single sci-fi book in the store. On that same note, covers and publicity don't matter at all if the person is looking for a romance novel. Bottom line, its tough being new. 9 times out of 10, unless you've been on the forum for a while so people know who you are even before you get around to making your 1st vid, or you have friends here who can help pimp you, you're going to have a tough time getting ops on your 1st vid. Particularly if you use an overused anime. Because that's what most new editors do. By your 2nd or 3rd, people should start to warm up to you. And if you're just looking for people to say they like it, utube would be a better place. I read the post that person left. And it was constructive. Yes, it was pointing out the flaws. But it wasn't to be mean, it was so you knew what to improve on for the next one. So that you know what to work at so that eventually you can get to the level where people leave you all 10 ops just to tell you how cool you are.gadimus wrote:I did post in the announcement thread. No one watched it as far as I could tell other than one guy who told me that the timing was all off and followed to list all the other flaws.
I was really hoping to just hear what people enjoyed about it because I had a lot of fun making it.
On the DBZ note I suppose it makes sense that DBZ is over-done but why should that matter? If a person is new they don't know that (although being a viewer I knew this well).

Yeah...for me personally, I dunno what people find so attractive about that anime. I thought it sucked when it was new. ~20 years later and I definitely don't want to watch some laughable fight scene where two guys yell "graaaaah!" at each other with Linkin Park in the background.JaddziaDax wrote:it can happen, but i bet most people are turned off by DBZ >.>
Nothing to do with your video, btw, since I haven't seen it. But after watching quite a few videos that match the aforementioned description, maybe you can understand why some people here refuse to watch any more DBZ AMVs.

So that explains the occasionally person PMing me for ops. I was wondering.Szwagier wrote:Or you can ask godix, who is a really nice person and like to give very high scored free opinions if you ask him politely.
