Disappointed

Post by gadimus » Wed Apr 04, 2007 2:59 pm

I'm pretty new to the community. I've watched a lot of AMVs from here. Personally I enjoy the AMV hell series and anything else amusing. I would really like to see most or all of the clips from these compilation videos made into full length videos.

I sigh though, I posted my first video and no one reviewed it.

I don't want this to be a whiny complaining post but I am very disappointed. I thought this was a place people could post their videos and people would give constructive comments and say what they enjoyed about it.

I know my video sucks but it was my first, I thought this was a better place.

That is all I have to say.

The chances of someone reviewing your video out of the blue are very, very low, as hundreds more videos are entered into the .org's catalogue every week. If no one's ever heard of you, if you don't post on the forum, then no, you aren't going to get some goodwill opinion. It just doesn't happen (or, at least, it only happens, very, VERY rarely).

Did you make an announcement in the Announcement Forum? Have you participated in opinion exchanges? Both are good ways to get your name around, and by extension, get your videos out there. If you just lay back and hope opinions will come to you...it won't happen, period.

There are many new videos appearing daily. And there is already 10k videos done do Dragonball. Therefore unless you'll create really awesome vid to DBZ, and do some incredible advertising you won't get much response for a simple reason - people lurking in the annoucment watches what catches their attention.

It's simple mathematics... Count the numbe of forum regulars, time it take to dl/view/comment video and number of the videos appearing daily, and you'll see that even if we were the nicest community on the net (which of course we aren't ^^) it would require complete no-life to watch everything that comes out.

He did. But it might be like jaddziadax said, DBZ is an overused anime and some people are turned off by that. And like Swagier said, even when announced, it can be hard for DBZ vids to catch people's attention. But the op exchange is usually a good way to get ops. Free ops are good, but people are sometimes more willing to watch a vid and leave an op if they know they're getting one in return. *^_^*

I don't know what you complain about. Kariudo gave you a review in you announcement thread. Your vid has only 49 hits so far, so maybe it's downloaded less than 10 times. I have vids with more downloads that aren't reviewed so far. Getting a random op is very rare, and it's easy to understand, taking in account the huge number of AMV that is released every day. And your vid uses the most overused anime.

Like JaddziaDax said, your best chance is the op exchange.

Btw, how many AMV's have you reviewed so far?

he also did get some good feedback its not really a TON of feedback but it seemed quite useful O:

most people tend to comment on technical aspects if thats what catches their attention the most... plus its alot easier to crit someones technical issues than it is to crit their idea....

I did post in the announcement thread. No one watched it as far as I could tell other than one guy who told me that the timing was all off and followed to list all the other flaws.

I was really hoping to just hear what people enjoyed about it because I had a lot of fun making it.

On the DBZ note I suppose it makes sense that DBZ is over-done but why should that matter? If a person is new they don't know that (although being a viewer I knew this well).

I didn't know there was opinion exchanges or anything like that I just read the titles and the only one that seemed to apply was announcement.

People say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I guess that is exactly how they judge a book...
