Oh, and to SQ who pondered about Mein Kampf lately - ditch it and go get the easily-accessible Triumph des Willens (Germany, 1935) (aka. "Triumph of the Will"), IMHO the greatest documentary ever filmed.

I very highly recommend Crossover. It's a very original film by talented cast and crew. It's a story about friendship, betrayals, and just playing by your own rules. There aren't enough streetball movies out there, and while this sounds like a bad idea for a movie, the execution is flawless in every detail. It's almost as if Orson Welles came back from the grave to direct this. I mean I haven't seen a movie ooze this much style since Pulp Fiction. If you see this next time you're at the rental store, PICK IT UP! You won't be disappointed!

Here's my list, but I know I've missed plenty. I've seen like 300 movies in the past 3 years.

L.A. Confidential - crooked cops vs. good cops vs. crime. Plenty of scandal, corruption, and intrigue. Not too much of a mystery, as we see a few sides of the story, but still compelling all throughout its 140 minutes. Amazing acting jobs all around.

Tombstone - one of the few westerns I've really liked, so I'm guessing it's an atypical one. Great cast, and entertaining pretty much all the way through. And it's arguably Val Kilmer's second best role (possibly best), followed only by his role in...

Willow - a classic no fantasy fan should miss. This was back before special effects dominated, which helps it be a more comedic movie. But comedic as in humorously light-hearted. It's by no means a comedy.

Children of a Lesser God - great drama/romance about a speech teacher who falls in love with a deaf student. Both did great jobs acting, and the student (Marlee Matlin) won an Oscar for it. I'm not a huge fan of romance movies either.

Shaun of the Dead - been recommended before, but could always use another one. Possibly my favorite movie of all time. I still laugh my ass off when I see it.

Amélie - possibly the most uplifting film I've ever seen, about a strange French girl that finds bizarre ways to help people without them knowing, in order to perpetuate a belief in mystery and miracles.

Braveheart - I think pretty much everyone knows what it is. If you can sit through a 3 hour drama based in the middle ages, I'd give it a shot if you haven't seen it.

I will also second Tim Burton movies, Pulp Fiction, and Kung Fu Hustle

I wasn't a big fan, but the actress who plays Amelie also starred in a movie called Dirty Pretty Things, which was much better IMO. Highly recommended. It also stars that dude who played the Operative in Serenity (another recommended movie)...I have no idea how to spell his name, so I'm not even going to try

I tend to like the stuff that is just plain wrong or off the wall...so keeping that in mind I'll add:

Just about anything directed by David Cronenberg (Crash, Naked Lunch, Dead Ringers, etc).

Also films by David Lynch (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Dune, etc.)

I'd also 2nd Clockwork Orange...and throw in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest just because I love it to death.

I also happened to like Quills with Geoffrey Rush about the Marquis de Sade...
