dokool wrote:Pro tip: kikai_saigono isn't a moderator. Mods will often attach comments to the last post of a thread (as they did in the [bold brackets]) before locking a thread, because they prefer to remain anonymous when it suits them. So, your thread was not locked by kikai_saigono, but rather by the ever-present Mod 403.

If you yourself admit that your post met two of the qualifying criteria for being "pointless" posts, then you have no reason to complain. Furthermore, you're at fault for not taking the time to learn the rules of the community (sticky threads/announcement threads are there for a reason!) before you post.

If you're upset enough to leave the forums over your Undeniable Goddamned Right to make a thread about which DBZ character is your favorite, then I'm pretty sure nobody will miss you anyway.
Okay, for starters, I was not aware that kikai_saigono was not a mod. If I knew that, I wouldn't have pointed her out. With this in mind, it would have been nice to know who had locked the thread to begin with. I believe mods should be the ones who come forward and say why they locked it rather than hiding in the background. At a previous forum I've been a member of for over 2 to 3 years, this is the way things were usually run. The mod said who they were, gave reasons for locking a thread, and the thread was then either placed into archives or deleated to conserve space.

I would recommend things like this be taken into consideration so other misunderstandings are not made in the future.

As far as my thread goes, I didn't say that it met qualifications for being pointless, I said that it met qualifications to be allowed to be kept up. If my explanations were misunderstood I apolgize for that.

As far as your last remark, the way I saw it, we were able to create threads about anything regarding anime in the section I started my thread. If that is not the case, maybe a spam section should be created specificly for that purpose. This is also something we have at the forum I mentioned. It also allowed for new members to introduce themselves. If all of these threads are deemed pointless, then 90% of them should be deleated I guess.

I don't see how my post was off topic. I posted in the gernal anime section. It was a dbz thread. What's wrong with that?

It was probably deemed pointless because its been done before (A LOT) and the discussion wouldn't lead anywhere really, and it would just get spammed by trolls. Plus, even people are saying why they like the character, that's not really engaging in discussion, its just a lot of people listing stuff in their individual posts. That's not a conversation, its a lot of monologues.

The thread was locked before it inevitably turned into a spam thread. I don't see the point in getting all broken up over having a topic based on what everyone's favorite DBZ character is; if you really care THAT MUCH how others feel about DBZ characters, there are plenty of other forums on the Internet where I'm sure you'll find pleanty of people who will share their thoughts with you.

As far as the mods go, how they choose to run this site is their business. The forums that you are originally from are not the standard across the Internet; if you don't like the way this place is run, there's nothing keeping you here.

Many times the mod will give their name. Sometimes, they don't. The bold brackets is their way of saying who they are and why they are locking it. They will usually link to the forum rules. You are the first one I've seen be confused about this. And if you haven't noticed, this isn't the other forum. Therefore, as Bashar said, it can be run as they see fit. All forums are not the same. (for the record, before any confusion occurs, I'm not a mod)

Fortune: You are an individual filled with confusion and misunderstanding who spreads confusion to those around you. ;) (FYI: That was a joke. It was alluding to your confusion with the situation, then your explaination confusing other. This is where you're supposed to laugh.)

Lists tend to be considered pointless threads. Which was the genre yours was in. Lists tend to be either boring and generally do not leave much room for discussion (which is what the forum is for), or proned to spam and trolls. Which is why, however relevent it may be to the topic of anime, those types of threads are locked for being pointless. When starting a new topic, it must provoke interesting conversation beyond a "list and why." Introductions, unless they're asking a question, go into that same category. There's not much that can be said in an intro thread other that 'Hi! Welcome!' And if every member did that, the forum would be an overflowing mess of 'Hi! Welcome' threads. Other forums may allow it, but its just not practical here. And I'm afraid if you want an OT or "spam" thread, you're going to have to donate and take it to the 'Donator's Forum.'

if you do donate, you can access the donator's forum, where you can post pretty much anything (reasonable) without having your thread locked.
ive been a donator for about a week... how come i cant get in this forum still?

(im guessing cause someone has been having issues with his isp... but @_@)
