Abuse of Power
I would like to report kikai_saigono for abusing his power. I literally just joined today and the first thread I created was locked because it was labeled as “pointless”. My thread was called “What’s your fav dbz character?” and I met the qualifications in the following list from a thread he linked in his so called reason for the lock.
A few suggestions:
- Give a good intro to your thread. Don't just make a thread title and "Discuss. 8)" in your post. If you're going to present an argument/ask a question, at least provide your opinion on it from the get-go. The more interesting and involved a thread is from the beginning, the more likely that it will get replies of the same quality.
I asked what people’s favorite character from the show was, stated who mine were, and described why asking people to do the same. It’s not pointless because I’m a newbie and it was a thread that would get me to know people who share similar interests and learn what there’s were.- Keep the signal-to-noise ratio down. For instance, if you're going to make a character vs. character thread, especially if the characters are from different series, try to keep your viewpoints as objective as possible. If all you're doing is basically stating that you like one character over another one, then don't bother posting. You want to present new information either by introducing it for the first time into the thread or by refuting someone else's post.
This is the only qualification my thread did not meet because it wasn’t a character vs. character deal. It’s a who do you like and why. Saying you like a character should not be considered spam or a bothersome post because there’s nothing wrong with it and it’s not a reason to lock a thread and give empty space.- Try to avoid making pissing contest threads such as "What anime have you seen? List them all." There is no real conversation in these threads, just lists and eventually responses like "O_O. Whoa dude, that's a LOT of anime."
There can be conversations in threads about your favorite character. Yes there will always be someone who starts a fight but so what. You grow up, ignore the jerk or ban them if they go into flaming. You don’t lock someone’s thread because you don’t want to post. Then it simply becomes wasted space because even though this is my first day I can see that nothing gets deleted from these forums even after threads are locked. Which is another reason I see no reason for locking my thread.- Try to avoid making threads that encourage one word posts.
Which is something else my thread does. It asks for the name of your favorite character with a brief reason as to why they’re your favorite.
All I ask is that my thread be reopened or allow me to create a new one. I’m not trying to be pushy or anything and I don’t want to sound like a jerk, I just believe kikai_saigono didn’t have a real reason to lock the thread and if that’s the way things are really done here, then maybe I’ll just stick to the amvs section of the website and not bother with the forums. It’s not right to do that to people, especially if you’re someone who donates. Not saying that I am, but if I ever did decide to, I’d be a little more upset.[/b]

kikai didn't lock your thread. Kikai isn't a mod, kikai just posted in your thread.
Have you ever searched for threads with a similar title? There's quite a few. They don't end well. It usually ends up in a flame-war. "Ignore the jerk or ban them". Sure, OR you could lock the thread before it begins and people start in on it.
If you want to discuss it, here's a good place:

The a-m-v.org forums have designated certain threads to discuss certain anime, so that we don't end up with a million of the same threads.

Pro tip: kikai_saigono isn't a moderator. Mods will often attach comments to the last post of a thread (as they did in the [bold brackets]) before locking a thread, because they prefer to remain anonymous when it suits them. So, your thread was not locked by kikai_saigono, but rather by the ever-present Mod 403.
If you yourself admit that your post met two of the qualifying criteria for being "pointless" posts, then you have no reason to complain. Furthermore, you're at fault for not taking the time to learn the rules of the community (sticky threads/announcement threads are there for a reason!) before you post.
If you're upset enough to leave the forums over your Undeniable Goddamned Right to make a thread about which DBZ character is your favorite, then I'm pretty sure nobody will miss you anyway.

im sure there have been other threads like this years ago when DBZ started. Now that DBZ is like 5 years old, nobody really cares about your favorite character.I asked what people’s favorite character from the show was, stated who mine were, and described why asking people to do the same. It’s not pointless because I’m a newbie and it was a thread that would get me to know people who share similar interests and learn what there’s were
and if a mod locks your thread, they were doing you a favor, there were going to be more useless posts and it would have just turned to spam[/quote]

Try at least 11 years ago.
DBZ aired from 1989 to 1996.
Damn I feel old.
