a new catagory for amvs

Post by batmanMG » Sat Feb 03, 2007 10:53 pm

(the noobocity is dripping off my screen from this post and im about to delete it without posting... hehe like i care...)

not a new type of amv that will end up taking over and destroying all that is holy in the amv realm

its more of a tribute to those trailblazing masterpeices that are adored by all... but more than that... they are old... old enough to have gotten bumped off the top 10% list by the new wave of amvs and are now lost amungst the thousands only to be found like a needle in a con...

i think that a new catagory should be made and to get on the list it should come to a vote... what should the list be called? the classics...

why? to bring sunshine and joy to a childs heart... becuase more ppl should see these classic amvs the spotlights always crowded by the new hot thing on the market... plus newcommers should see the vids this site has grown up with...

(feel free to delete / lock this if you think its a bad idea...)

i remember this being brought up before.

one thing the site has done is implemented the bayesian adjustment to the scoring system, allowing videos with more scores (usually older ones) to stay on the top 10% list longer. so if you look on the top 10%, a lot of the "classics" are still there.

Awhile ago there was a suggestion to break the top 10% into two and have a classic top 10 be only videos 5 years or older and the regular top 10% for whatever the fad of the week is. I suspect that idea went to the same place every other idea that required major coding and no one volunteering to code goes.

Didn't there used to be a Phades recommended viewing in the tutorial section? I don't see it anymore but perhaps someone could revive it.

It's there, in Phade's Guide to Good Anime Music Videos, it's just a little hidden:

Like those buttons there that say "5+ YEARS AGO" and "LAST 12 MONTHS"?

Yeah, kinda similar to that. But I think the idea was to actually feature those lists without having users click filters in order to draw attention to them. Hey, I didn't say it was *MY* bright idea.

most of the top10% stuff is overated, just a bunch of friends giving all 10's with random useless words that offer no further improvements in editing or constructive criticism. After all who in their right mind would give a buddy lower then a 7 on a rating? Wouldn't want lower then a 7 in return would ya?

That's why I mainly stopped giving opinion's to friends. I always give detailed opinions and offer <b>my opinion for improvement</b>. Instead of...

Straight 10's with a pointless block of continous "Insert pointless retarded text here about how great your friend is so you can suck up to earn 10's from them on your next amv."

Camon we learned this from godix's mep...

But back on topic, yeah i think its a cool idea. Amv's that were created way in the past but considered to be the best of their time should be included in like a classics section of their own or something. The only problem is finding and selecting through all of a-m-v.org's database... You have fun watching all them amv's and selecting. Let me know when your done.

It will never happen, best luck you will have is a dated super search for amvs...
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson
