If anyone can give some advice. [video exposure]
Ok. Now I've been on this site for a few months. But I just want to ask, how do I get people to watch my amv's? How I do I get them to get noticed?
Now I've only made four amv's to date, simply because I did them at my friends house. But I have posted 2. Because like most first time rookies. They sucked. But my last two were better with practice.
Now I know I might get, "well maybe your amv's suck." Which is I feel a matter of opinion.
Someone told me, "people who watch an amv decide how good it is, not the amv maker." which is true. So I'd like you guys to judge mine. I'd suggest the Advent Children amv I made. It's much better then my third. And I spent time making sure it was worth a download. As I have in the description. I wouldn't want someone to download a lazy amv. I use the word lazy because anyone has the ability to make a good amv. So I tried hard to make it worth the watch.
I would also like to know what I can do to contribute a lot more to this site. Whether it's watching more amv's and voting or whatever. So also if I can get links to some good amv's by some aspiring or maybe older amv makers. I would appreciate it. Any advice someone can give or criticism is cool. Just don't be all mean about it. By the way, the quality of my amv's isn't professional. But it isn't "damn I can't see this" either. Thanks a lot. And keep it up with your amv's.
This is the link to my FFVII amv is anyone is interested. I'd appreciate comments and advice.

probably the best way to have a video get a lot of attention is to make a superb amv.
since this is hard for most people to pull off, us regular joes find that posting in the amv announcements forum (when you upload a new amv), and making or responding to threads in the opinion exchange forum works out pretty well.
word of mouth can be the best (and worst) form of advertisement, but you have to get people talking before that happens.
what your "someone" said is partly true. if you build up a reputation of making bad amvs then people will be more hesitant to look at your work. Using overused sources (such as advent children, inuyasha, DBZ, naruto, etc) can also drive people away...but that decision is really up to you.
can't comment on your amv now, but I will take a look at it

This is some advice i saved in a notepad a while back:
I get ops from friends
and opinion trades... very rarely will I get an opinion from a random person.. (they are always nice though)
Either that or I get opinions from people I talk to in AIM chat, IRC, on the forums, in journals or elsewhere....
if you really want opinions go here:
Opinion Trade Forum
create a new thread offering to TRADE an opinion for an opinion... its called a 1 to 1 or a 1:1 opinion trade... you will get lots of constructive critisim, but also be warned it may attract people who dont necessairly LIKE your video, but are willing to give a technical critique on it.... or respond to the many threads that are there and do an exchange.
another way is to get yourself noticed somehow, by being more active on the site like in the forums or IRC or just being good at amv making... you can add pretty buttons to your forum signature that link to your videos, and whatnot...
ASK:
sometimes if you ask, people will leave their opinion... its true... its worked for me in the past
a personal email, or asking in person is the best way for this to work, dont whine in your journal or else where begging for opinions cause it will turn people off, if you ask a group they're more than likely to ignore you, where as if you you ask an individual they might actually respond. but this also depends on the individual.
To get more Downloads (sometimes more downloads means more ops, but not always):
be da pimp of your AMV whore! post it in the announcement thread
post links to your AMV in other places like the AMV livejournal:
http://community.livejournal.com/amv/
or any forums you might be on that have anything to do with AMV or you think that they might enjoy your amv...
Conventions:
I'm only trying this out for the first time myself and I'm curious to see how this effects my numbers O.o but I'm told that if you enter a convention contest then it will at the least draw more attention to your amv
(wow this is old, but it works)
On Line Contests:
joining some of these can help, some contests offer opinions to the winners, but it will expose your video to more people...
and above all else the best way to get lots of response is to make a good video, something that people will want to share with their friends.. this site is driven on "word of mouth" which means if i see an AMV that I liked, I will share it with my friends, and if they liked it they will share it with their friends... ect.

Actually, there's quite a bit you can do. You can donate money to the .org, which is always appreciated. You can op videos you watch, especially for the videos by editors who don't have any ops on their videos. Even if the op is short, as long as you give constructive criticism or comments a little more meaningful than "I love this video!", editors always like to get that. You can go to the op exchange forum and offer opinions on videos in exchange for someone giving one of your videos an opinion (another great way to get your videos out there a little). Right now the 2007 VCAs are going on, so if you've seen any good videos from 2006 that you think deserve to win an award you can head on over to the VCA Shameless Promotion forum and nominate some videos, and when the time comes vote on videos that have been nominated.Pike16 wrote:I would also like to know what I can do to contribute a lot more to this site. Check out the VCA forum; you'll find links in every thread to tons of good videos by new editors and pros alike. That's probably the best place to look right now; of course there's always the Top 10% list (accessible from the Members Main Page), but there is a lot of crap on there so that may not be the best place to look at first.Pike16 wrote:So also if I can get links to some good amv's by some aspiring or maybe older amv makers.
Hey, I'll check this out and op it for free. Give me a day or two or three though. I'm notoriously slow at giving opinions.Pike16 wrote:This is the link to my FFVII amv is anyone is interested. I'd appreciate comments and advice.

Does it really fucking matter? Did you make the damned things hoping to have the entire org fall at your feet and worship you as a master? Is this really your goal? Fuck it. Put em up and fuck everyone else if they don't want to see them. Quit looking for validation from others, most of us don't give a fuck one way or another about you. You made the video. You enjoyed it. Be happy with that.
Oh well, if this is actually what you want, here's the rules to pimping your videos harder than Krats mom gets pimped:
1) Post in announcement forum. It helps to know basic human behavior. People tend to avoid someone who advertises they're a new editor. People tend to mock those who claim they're great. People tend to go out of their way to piss off those who are pricks. Just post your video name, source, and a brief description. Also don't bump the thread. That shit is annoying.
2) Op exchange. The majority of op exchanges are 'you jack me off and I'll jack you off' but a few will give honest feedback. Either way, it's one more person who's seen your video and thought about it enough to at least write an op.
3) Get involved in some aspect of the community. People tend to download stuff from people they know. So get your name known on the forums. Or the journals. Or IRC. Or the con crowd. Or whatever other subgroup of the org you like.
4) Here's a naughty word for this site: Y O U T U B E. The video quality sucks dick. The audio frequently is so far out of sync you think you're watching badly dubbed 70's era martial arts movies. The audience is quite large and not very picky. If you just want viewers and you don't care how bad your video will look then the tube is the place to be.
5) Perform sexual favors on well known members of the org. In return they'll tell people they think you're great. What favors will be needed depends on the member. I hear Koop demands your anal virginity while Minion is so easy that 30 seconds of cyber will do. Me personally, I'm kinda cheap. Give me a blowjob and I'll post something nice in your announcement thread. If you swallow I'll go post your shit in the recommend AMV section. OTOH everyone knows I'm a lying bastard so no one actually pays attention to my recommendations anymore. You get what you pay for.

Because I tell people what they deserve to hear instead of what they want to hear. Either that or I forgot to offer handjobs to whoever votes for me. Perhaps I should rectify that this year.Kariudo wrote:wanna guess why he didn't get it last yearCrackTheSky wrote:Too bad this was posted in 2007; this is about as helpful as godix gets. You deserve my vote for Most Helpful for this. At least in the start when we can vote for several people. If it goes down to the finals then fuck you, I'm voting for myself. I ain't gonna fall for that 'you vote for me and I'll vote for you' shit like I did with zarx last year. Anyway, that's enough off topic talk for now or else this thread will get locked. Hmmm....
So, totally offtopic I know, but anyone got some amusing pictures they wanna share in this thread?
