Other hobbies besides AMVs?
So what hobbies do you do have besides matching linkin park to cartoons?
i used to build and race R/C cars. i've away from the scene for about 2 or 3 years, but i'm thinking about spending some cash to get one of my cars in wokring order again.
i don't have time to goto the track anymore, but some backyard bashing on the weekends would be nice.
for about 5 or 6 years i've been into "flowriding". it's a man made wave for bodyboarders and surfers.
florida only gets really nice swells just before hurricanes hit, so flowriding was the alternative. the one i rode at closed down a year and a half ago, though. a new local one just opened, but i've only been on it once.

KioAtWork: I'm so bored. I don't have class again for another half hour.

As I mentioned elsewhere, my #1 hobby is being an armchair military historian, which itself splits into a number of sub-hobbies. The main branch is simulation games (and more recently wargames), through which I got into the whole thing. Lately, I'm particularly noted for playing games such as Falcon 4.0, Silent Hunter III, IL-2 Sturmovik, Distant Guns, Hearts of Iron, Total War series, Combat mission, etc. I have been involved in organizing major multi-player communities (like Wolves at War) of dozens of players, and even learning some basic programming for the sake of modding (which I did quite successfully)
I also read military history with a lot of interest, though history as a whole is a huge hobby. I even have a minor history - a shameless excuse for my hobbyism.
I probably spend 10x more time, money and attention on my simulation games alone than I do on anything anime-related (including AMVs)
Then there is the whole arts area, where I would actually pile AMVs into. I dabble in drawing, I dabble in playing music, I dabble in writing, I dabble in photography, I dabble in design - but I'm more of an active consumer for the moment than anything. Active listening to music and otherwise obsessing over it is probably my #2 hobby, below simulation games and above AMVs.
Then there is a huge plethora of stuff below it. Popular science and technology stuff - I'm there. Biology and environmental studies has been an area of interest for me since childhood, and I'm always within arm's reach of these things. In general though, being raised as a member of the weird species of Eastern European Intelligentsia, I have an interest in everything by default.
Lastly, there is the hugely underrated hobby I call Aimless Wandering. It involves going out on streets and walking around without any sense of direction or purpose. If you don't understand why this is satisfying... I guess it's not for you

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Writing. That's almost entirely limited to fanfiction right now, because of copywrite issues. Once I feel confident in my craft (ha!) I'll concentrate on original fiction. I write constantly, have for years and years, and yet every few months I'll pick up my latest story and feel the urge to completely rewrite it to improve the grammar (of all things). I refuse to turn my favorite passtime into a job until I'm sure it's as good as I'll get. I don't think I'll ever be sure of that, so writing will probably remain a hobby indefinitely. As long as it's fun and I have my excuse for not turning it "legit", I'm content.
I also like reading history, psychology, politics, and biology/nature texts. I'd like to write a few reports or opinion-based articles for some journal or magazine eventually, just for the chance to stir up conflict. I love those "report from the readers" columns after someone does a controversial article. Some topics I love to debate are cryptozoology, Bush-bashing, welfare reform, abortion/stem-cells/religion-based laws, insanity pleas, global warming, evolution, hands-off parenting in the US, etc. My problem is I dabble in so many areas that I'm an expert on nothing. I feed my short attention span to remain amused. Just about any topic can interest me at some point or another.
Fiction reading - I like fantasy, science fiction, horror, and romance - preferably in the same story. That's one of the reasons I like anime since it mixes the genres better than most authors I've read.
I like watching old movies over and over until I know just about every line in them. I dislike watching new movies. If I'm forced to watch one, I might end up liking it enough to watch on repeat. Most of the time I'm content having a huge collection of vhs movies, each of them being one I watch indefinitely without getting bored. My favorites are monster movies, some alien/ghost movies, slasher movies (Jason and Meyers and Krueger, not the new Scream/Last Summer crap), anything King, and the occassional action movie (Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, etc). I dislike most girly romance movies. The only one I can think of that I willingly watch is Friends and Lovers, and that's only for the cute Jewish gay guy and the humor. ;p
I like to play pool and chess, but I rarely get a chance to do either since they're not really "one person" games. Most of my friends don't play games that involve thought (chess), and every time we go to the bowling alley (where the pool tables are), they're there to bowl. I hate bowling.
I love to sing until my voice is hoarse, but only late at night when I know no one will hear me. I like to read outloud, but my neices don't like the novels I pick to read to them. I think I just like to hear the sound of my own voice. I used to want to be one of those people reading the "books on tape" - until I recorded myself and realized my voice is *much* higher pitched than it sounds to me. To my ears it's an alto, to everyone else it's a highpitched snobby girl's voice. Sucks. ^^;

Reading, pretty much anything, though I prefer non-fiction to fiction usually. Science, economics, political doctrines and manifestos, history, especially any college level academic works I can get my hands on. Oto still owes me a direction pointing in linguistic books.
Besides that, uh... dabbling around in things? Hell if I know, you'd probably find a better answer in a description of my room. Or a more pointed question.

I usually go through spurts of just liking ONE hobby and only focusing on that one. For the past two years, it's been AMVs. I only aquired and learned how to use a computer for the purpose of AMVing. I'll play some video games (Gunbound and Golfbound) and read some Star Wars books, but they're all second to AMVing at the moment.

It seems to be a common trend here, but I also write as well. Currently working on my first novel o.O But I only have... half a page done so far ^^;;
I also draw, as seen in the art thread here.
My one hobby that has followed me since my early childhood (about 5 or 6) has been model Railroading. My grandfather did it. My father does it. So natually I love it as well. Mostly I love to see my trains run since they are models of locomotives that are no longer in service and placed in museums or just scrapped.
