@_o I'd feel cheated and dirty
Besides, wouldnt that be kinda creepy to have somebody come up to you and say "The way you apply lens lairs really revs my motor"?
Dedication or ... ?

Well, in a couple months, it will have been 2 years for me. (That long?! I still feel kinda like a newb!
) I wasn't always like this. Hell, I wasn't always an anime fan either. But then a few years ago, I started watching anime. Then about 2 years ago, a friend of mine that is now my bf showed me an amv he had done. But it was on the org, so I had to join to watch it. And I thought it was really cool. And being the artsy person I am, wanted to do stuff like that too. So I started running around the org watching vids and emailed Rafe every 2 seconds with amv making questions until I finally came out with my own vid (that sucked, but eh.) Now its become a lifestyle choice and I've become even more hooked than the person who got me into them. (to the point where now he's asking me for help. And I blame him for this all the time.
) I spend hours at my comp, and most of the time I'm either on the org, in premiere or vdub editing, or in photoshop either doing stuff for a vid or making banners. Wow! And getting this all out, I realize how much I really need a life.
Anyhow, I just like to create, and for all the work that goes into it, out of all the artforms that I do, I enjoy the end result of amvs the most. The process is fun too, though can be a bit tedious and annoying at times, but I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it. I just enjoy all of it, from getting the idea to making the vid and the rush when an idea works out or I accidentally end up with something that looks really cool, watching the finished vid, getting feedback from others. The last 2 just make it all worth the work. But yeah, I know the feeling of randomly listening to music and having potential amvs running through your head. It happens to me all the time. Half the time when my bf and I are driving with music on, that ends up being the topic of conversation. What anime we would put to the song and what kind of amv it would be.
And JadeArcAngel, don't underestimate the power of the nerd libido.

aparently it CAN help you in college... i know one friend who got into a more advanced editing class due to what he already knew how to do (through amving)... and i have seen people use amvs to help get themselves into college... as for MONEY for college i donno... and i highly doubt it.sagarajack wrote:Don't put too much hope in it, This will not get you any money for college nor will it help you to get laid.
as for helping you "get laid" heh... lol... so many comments so little time...
however if you enter a contest or two it can land you some free DVDs (ima guess usually of something that doesnt really interest you... or so has been the trend so far for me... but hey free stuff is free stuff) and maybe some trophies O.o...
im more in this for the interactiveness, what people say... getting chewed out on the tube site for taking my videos down... that sort of stuff XD... that and ive made alot of really awesome friends on this site XD... and i donno editing is fun (more fun than making websites heh)

XD The best ( and worst ) thing is how in you head the videos are perfect? scenes cut at the right moments ~ the characters have ironically been re-drawn to match the song?! ~ The timeing, the lip-synch, the motions they all work! Your head is filled with a vission, a wonderful beautiful vission and you rush home .....
To spend un-godly amounts of time and soda on something that looks like your cat coughed it up! BUT with fierce determination and a little gusto you polish, trim, and sharped the video until it looks presentable enough to be told you didnt have enough lens flares! *BIG BREATH*[/end sarcasm]
I love this stuff!!

I've only been here for, what, like four and a half months? I started editing years ago, but I didn't do it seriously until August last year. And it's already ruined my GPA (I think). But yeah, it's a great hobby, and this is a really great place to have fun and meet some really cool people. Welcome!

I found random vids around the net in 2001, found the org in late 2002 and didn't start any computer based editing until 2004 when i figured i'd better get an account here. I'm sure i had used other sign-ups before of friends to download vids at their place (horrible connection on my end at the time). This is definitely a community, or that's what they tell me. I've made several casual acquaintances (people i see only at cons mostly, though i do occasionally talk to them online) and at least one good friend through here. [and a enough people that i keep embarrassing myself around to make me hesitant about ever going to AWA]
Don't let the member count fool you. I'd wager 70% or more of the accounts here have never been on the forums and another 10 or 20 percent of the total have posted maybe once or twice. The real community here is between 100 and 200 people, so don't be too intimidated by size.

It's annoying how I always agree with otohiko whenever he dares manifest himself (except for when he acts communist because I'm a cnservatve prick).
Thanks for starting this thread, Mike. There are some people around here who'd have a lot to gain by reading the input here.
As for AMVs leading to sex, I have a few stories but there are minors in the forums so I should stay quiet.

Counter-point; I also have heard stories... but they involve minors and therefore should not be on the forumsGepetto wrote: As for AMVs leading to sex, I have a few stories but there are minors in the forums so I should stay quiet.

Haha, I was worried because I started it out akin to something that seemed more like a "Hi, muh name is" type of thing which I had seen was something that got locked downGepetto wrote:It's annoying how I always agree with otohiko whenever he dares manifest himself (except for when he acts communist because I'm a cnservatve prick).

O_Ox huzzah for the good fortune to have a point burried in there eh??
My *FIRST* video was a DBZ and it was "It's The End of The World As We Know It" set to goings-on during the battle w. Freiza. Wow, just thinking about that takes me back ( or as some mught say 'to the scene of a crime' ) Yikes, that vid is actually only around because one of my best friends has my only VHS tape I gave with a few of my vids on it. Lets just say one involved rap and he intends to use it for blackmail purposes against me if I ever try and stop whatever mac scheme he comes up with to, I dont know .... destroy coffee. Yes, you heard me. He's weird like that
Eventually I worked my way to Premire since thats what I was taught at school and I made a DBZ vid that my teachers actually allowed to be submitted against other students actual works. One of the 2 instructors never forgave me because he didnt like anime too much and afterwards there were people asking if they could edit anime for their labs and projects!

Welcome to the .org.
Kind of skimmed very this thread, but for 2-3 years I've been really into AMVing. Then when I got into college I kind of stopped making AMVs. I work on "Real" stuff now for school.
AMVs helping you get into college: Depends on the college and the curriculum. Art Institute of Atlanta was willing to look at them, but preferred real stuff(and live action over cartoons), the college I'm going to now said they looked at it but really didn't because they accept everyone(but that's "off the record"). :/
AMVs getting you money for college: There are scholarships out there for video editors. While not necessarily "Make an AMV and get money" the expierence from AMVing helps a lot in finishing them. Also, sometimes people hold AMV contests with cash prizes, I myself have run 2. One $50, one $100(called "TRWYP"). I'd hold the third version, but with college, I'm way broke now. D:
AMVing helping you get jobs: Though not technically an AMV, I got to be a DP on a music video set by showing one of my profs a Fighting Club MV beta, and then linked him to my AMV page. Also there are a couple of people on the forums that have been given gigs by documentary places, and anime companies because of their AMVs. So it's happened before.
AMVs getting you laid: It's happened, but I don't think it's happened where the girl wasn't a fangirl or AMVer themselves, so I don't think it counts. XD
Anyway, hope everything goes well for you; stay on the forums. You keep more up to date this way, and will get noticed more. Go to AWA, and the some other major cons.. But AWA is pretty much "the AMV con". You'll meet a lot of "famous" AMVers there.
Also go to AMV dinners and socialize. Always good to connect. Hell, you may end up in RDS because of it. lol
Somebody should really put up a guide on "How to put AMVs on your resume" so I can have a longer resume and not sound retarded on it. It'd be nice if the awards I've won actually meant something in the long run of my life rather than "ooo, little bit more popular!" XP
