/mmmm, good ol' harshness
Wouldn't that go against the point of the .org? You know, cataloging every AMV ever made (by people that use the .org, that is)?

:/
Oh yeah! I forgot about that! Image

The thread doesn't ask for an overhaul of the entire music list, just the ones appearing on the overused page.

Going over the entire database of musical artists is too much. But it wouldn't be that hard to do a word change on the artists listed on the "overused music" list, right? I mean, there aren't that many artists listed there that are blatantly wrong other than the two duplicate LP's. That's two entries. Doesn't sound like a lot of work if you can use the same sort of trick you used when we got the anime mispellings fixed.

That huge Unknown listing should be taken off the page, though. That's just like having "various" listed as one of the overused "anime" sources. I thought the vca sweeps got rid of entries like that, or blacklisted them, or something. >.<

Sadly, we don't have the same tools for the music database as we do the anime database, so it's actually quite hard :(

There is also the issue of once you correct the misspelled artist(s), correcting the misspelled song titles and getting rid of duplicate (but similar) entries (assuming the song version isn't a remix, live, acoustic, or demo, etc.). A HUGE undertaking.

And people will also continue to make incorrect entries after the cleaning.

I think most of us would be satisfied with just a band name sweep. For now, at least.

I'm swamped with vestibular exams until January, but I'd be glad to help from February on, if you could use a hand. I don't know the first thing about programming but I do have the patience to steer through all the band names.

At the moment it has nothing to do with time or people wanting to help on it. I'll make myself a bit more clear from earlier:

If it were easy the mispelled band names would've vanished years ago.

I have a friend that worked on A9 for music searches and cross referencing Albums, artists, and song titles, and I myself am intersted in helping (and know a thing or two about CS stuff). Care to elaborate on the problem? Be as technical as you need to be.
