I could be wrong, but I interpreted that to mean s/he only uploads to one place, and hosatchel tends to have a bigger audience than the 'org. Plus viewers don't have to worry about codecs with hosatchel, unlike here.Scintilla wrote:I don't see how uploading a video file to Hosatchel would go any faster than uploading it here

I won't watch AMVs on You-Tube when I can get nice HQ versions here. However, you can't dispute the LARGE audience potential of You-Tube. Look at Wired's article on the Lonelygirl15 "series" to see what I mean.Otohiko wrote:To answer the OP:
That depends on the intent.
Not to say I don't see pluses to boochsack, but my question to any serious AMV editor is "why?". The only explanation I can see is lazyness.

Yeah, that is what i mean :d. Upload to boochsack is not faster than here, in fact i think it more slower than in here. And the quality isJayn_Newell wrote:I could be wrong, but I interpreted that to mean s/he only uploads to one place, and hosatchel tends to have a bigger audience than the 'org. But boochsack don't require any codecs for video(and believe me, all my friends and my family never heard about the word "codecs"

I put my videos on YouTube before I upload them here, but that's just in case I ever get better-known in the future and someone else puts them up there claiming them as their own...that way I can prove their mine. I also do that so I can embed them in my MySpace, basically just for my one friend who's too lazy to download them from here :/
Other than that I don't advertise my AMVs on YouTube, and I absolutely refuse to watch AMVs on YouTube.

When one of my videos (not posted by me) gained popularity on boochsack, it resulted in drawing more attention to it's high quality counter-part here, then even my original annoucement thread had. Keeping that in mind, when I release my latest vid, I also through up a verison there and on Google. Yes, they look like crap compared to the verison here, but if it nets me a couple extra downloads I'm happy.

Funny enough, that's where I first saw that vidScintilla wrote:Despite the many problems Yuu'utsube has, I can easily see offering my videos there in addition to the Org in the future.Otohiko wrote:Not to say I don't see pluses to boochsack, but my question to any serious AMV editor is "why?". The only explanation I can see is lazyness. The .org is not substantially more difficult to use than boochsack, and yet it offers far superior quality and many purpose-built features to accommodate the AMV community's special demands.
Why? Because, as far as I can tell, the 'Tube has far greater potential for spreading videos really widely among the general 'net public.
I'm sure that the ability to embed a 'Tube player in any webpage that's not on a site they block, as well of the convenience of posting a link that takes you right to the playing video, has something to do with this.
(I would say that, for the viewers, the Org is substantially harder to use -- they're more likely to have a recent Flash plugin installed than to have XviD/whatever, and not much beats just clicking on the link and seeing the video right there in your browser.)
So far, I have never uploaded any of my videos to Hosatchel. However, my 2005 video "Waka Laka (for Osaka)" has been uploaded there at least a dozen times by different people and spawned countless ripoffs and bandwagons (a search for "waka laka" there turns up 408 videos). Its most popular copy, just by itself, has over 500,000 views (not claimed to be unique) and holds spots on several of the site's top 20 lists.
That is the kind of exposure I never could have hoped for from the Org.
Does the video quality suck? Yes.
Is there sometimes desynchronization? Yes.
Will most of the viewers care? No.
Of course I would rather they come to the Org, or to the AS website, and get a high-quality version they could keep for themselves. But if it's helping to get my videos out there, and resulting in satisfied viewers...

One of my friends found it somehow.
Of course I knew that someone who makes an amv of that skill level must have a copy uploaded here - and viola.
If there are any examples of GOOD AMVs on boochsack that aren't here, I'll be surprised. Most people who can't figure out how to use FTP probably aren't that great at editing anyways, (which is why I mostly ignore indirect links).

I will point out that I post my videos to hosatchel. I figure why not? However, no one has ever stolen my videos on there. But you know, I had plenty of stuff people grabbed shared on winmx, limewire, napster, etc back before the wonders of the mid 2000s. In fact, you can STILL find the very first two still on such programs.

I ask anyone who posts my vids to youtube to take them down while simultaniously flagging the copy. Got an account for that purpose. It's a button issue for me.
