Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Three AMVs from an amateur

Post by VendavalEste » Sun Nov 26, 2006 6:02 am

Firstly, I obtain all my footage from DVDs I own using a program called Fraps; it's not as good as it sounds, there is a blatant watermark at the top of each video. Yes I know it's very cheap but for the time being it's sufficed, but now I see it as more trouble than it's worth (i.e. recording something and just getting a black image).

I would have actually made four AMVs; the first being a Halo MV with Rammstein as background music, but it was so shoddy I decided to not upload and redo it all someday in future.

But anyway, here are three videos I am satisfied with, all hosted on YouTube, so that means some have lost out a bit on visual quality, sucks I know but it looks like the way to get things done in this world is through money.

Devilman/Dominator MV "Meet The Creeper"
This is very violent and gory, it uses footage from "Amon: Apocalypse Of Devilman", the live-action Devilman movie, "Heavy Metal VS Dominator" and "Dominator: A Brief History Of Hell". Music is Rob Zombie. I don't have many personal thoughts about this one, except it was my first real good attempt.

Devilman live-action MV "Would You Love A Monsterman"
I had intent on making a cheesy video, which the live-action Devilman movie unfortunately was. Again, I don't seem to have many personal thougths except the song goes in a way.

Dominator MV "Demonoid Phenomenon"
Because of how fucking annoying Movie Maker is, this was almost never complete. After so many hours, compiling, fixing and doing my best to synchronize as much as I can, I finally did it. I had to constantly go back to make sure some scenes worked, I think I made a good job of it too. So if anything, this is the one I think I spent the most time on, and much of that time ultimately went into getting the damn thing to work. Luckily, I fixed a lot of previous problems when I made the final.

With the exception of the Lordi video and partially the Devilman/Dominator video, I made a huge mistake of recording most of my footage from QuickTime files; the Fraps watermark becomes bigger each time QT footage comes on. I could have avoided this with the Dominator video as A Brief History Of Hell was also available in Media Player format, as was the Dominator 2 promo footage, oh well...

Anyway, I'd just like to know what you think, what needs improving and the things I could do and (if possible) better ways of promotion.

You should announce your amvs in the "amv announcement" section.
Insted of using a video capture program to get clips from dvds you should use a dvd ripper like DVD decryptor
