Well, let's put it this way.
Noticed how clean shaven Hiro was when he and Karada first moved in their own apartment in the flashback? Compare it to now, you can say Hiro went through great depths and sacrifices in order to give Karada the essentials she needs. He probably did it to a point that he doesn't give a damn of what he looks like. And not to mention Karada was crying at the fact that she became a "burden" to Hiro because he let himself go like this.

The eps seem rather slow to drag for some reason. I say they use up a LOT of time to show the points they need to make...

I'll stick it through to see what J.C. Staff and company can pull out of their asses..

Well, it was directed by the same guy who directed Lunar Legend Tsukihime, and we all knew how leisurely paced that was.

Supposedly someone went ahead and read the manga of which this anime is based on, and he was caught off-guard at a certain plot point later on. My anticipation has risen at that moment.

I've been trying to find manga scans, raw or otherwise, and no luck so far :(
I thought it was in ep2, but maybe in ep3 ... Hiro DOES say that he called the police about it.

And as was mentioned already -- different people will react differently. Shouko takes it surprisingly well ... which I can see because she comes off as a realist. Her attitude is basically -- this is completely impossible, yet it happened, so I have no choice but to deal with it so theres no use in breaking down about it now.

Karada on the otherhand is still only in 5th or 6th grade atm remember, so she is less mentally equipped to deal with something of this magnitude happening.

You got the quote tags sort of right. Now you just need to put the white tags on it as well.

First half of episode 3 has nice comedic moments with Karada learning the ropes of being a grown up. The scene where she tripped over her high-heels was hilarious. But of course the second half is where is gets good!
And that's where Hiro finally meets up with little Shouko. She doesn't upright tell him it's really her until the end of the episode, but she's pretty much gave off rather hostile signals towards him. We also got some flashbacks of how her relationship with Hiro was when they first met in America. It was pretty tight. Also, it's been confirmed that Karada is not Hiro's real sister. Hiro pretty much went back to Japan just to take care of her since her parents died. The episode ended when little Shouko told Hiro who she and Karada really were.
And this series shaping up to be more than just a mundane, slice-of-life series. Who would have thought that!

Ahhh, episode 4, the summer festival episode.
Now that Shouko told Hiro about hers and Karada's predicament, it pretty much took some time for him to absorb all of this. So pretty much there were some awkwardness and some insensitivity especially between Hiro and Karada (Shouko got pretty pissed about that and kicked Hiro on the shins; OUCH :x). The parallel flashbacks of Hiro and Karada going to their annual summer festival brought some sense into him.
The art quality degraded though. :(

But overall, I'm starting to really love this series.
