Progressive Rock Suggestions

I am a big Rush fan as some of you know, but I would like to suppliment my progressive rock collection. I have heard that Yes is really good and I have heard the King Crimson, specifically In the Court of the Crimson King is worth listening to. Are these valid suggestions I have recieved? If so what else is there and if not what should I be looking for?

Yes and KC are definitely good. KC varies a lot from album to album, so I'll let Oto comment on them.

That's a great reference. You'll find a huge playlist on that page with full songs streaming (as far as I know, it's all legit). Check out any of those artists in the top 20 key albums section, but also The Flower Kings, Kansas, Spock's Beard, and Transatlantic.

King Crimson, naturally. I think you will be most pleased by their '69-'74 material. ITCOTCK is a must; if you like it, In the Wake of Poseidon does much the same goodness; otherwise, Red, Starless and Bible Black, Larks' Tongues in Aspic, and the live "USA" release are well-done items of brooding weirdnesses.

Yes, Genesis, Emerson Lake and Palmer should all be right up your alley.

A special shout-out from me should go to Gentle Giant. They're the lighter, folk side of prog rock, and honestly - their multi-instrument, rhythmically-complex and purely English goodness is unmatched. If you're into that kind of thing. They rock my socks off.

Alas it is already so late, I only had a chance to check out the King Crimson tracks that they had on your link Flint. They are certainly more out there than Rush, but not at all in a bad way. 21st Century Schizoid Man was really cool, I had not idea that they were so boarderline hardcore Jazz.

If interested in the Hardcore Jazz side of it, then add KC's "Lizard" album to your list. The closest it gets to mixing jazz and prog in even proportions, although the album is not always entirely accessible (especially on early listens)

It's the only site I've used for prog.
