Am I alone in these types of expenditures?
Nope. I plan on buying lots more anime based on AMVs I've seen, not to mention I've gotten interested in whole genres of music that I hadn't ever paid any attention to before I'd seen certain AMVs.

But devilmaykickass is right...we're in the minority.

damn I need to read up on the news more often, no way I'ma let this shit happen if I got anything to say about it. I allready sent my response to those political bastards. I'll sum up my letter briefly.. I basically said 2 words and gave them 2 fingers in representation.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I know of some popular editors that have gone out of their way to get R2 DVDs because of an AMV they wanted to make. AMVs create more buying needs of DVDs and music. Any worrying that they cause the opposite is irrational so I don't know why the fuck these companies care. Anyone that knows how to extract audio from videos most likely already know how to get music from file sharing programs and you'll find music a lot easier on file sharing programs than looking here. Only idiots need to download videos here to extract the audio from it.

Yes. Ripping DVDs in and of itself ALONE (that is, even if you don't do anything with that rip, just simply the act of ripping it) is illegal.
i'm no lawyer, but i don't think making backups is illegal so long as it's not distributed in any way
Yes, it is. RIPPING ALONE is illegal. Keep in mind that "moral" and "legal" are not the same thing.

Common Law

Post by HeavyMetal » Fri Sep 29, 2006 11:16 pm

Its a common law system; legality is a matter of how good your lawyer is and how cases before took place. Don't forgot the popular opinion of the unwashed masses.

Technically recording a TV program with your TIVO or your VCR is illegal when done without consent(aka always). But if no one is losing enough money to make it worth pursuit then who cares. Besides sales of these devices stimulate the economy too.

Plenty of sales are generated by a-m-v.org. Plenty of pirates too, but they probably would not have bought the DVD or CD anyway.

As for the corporate backbone..well...not that big a deal. Messenger progams and PTP are really the first step in internet connections that will eventually lead to more direct computer to computer interaction. Home computers will eventually have more host abilities (think video game systems). That leaves only the ISP as the real corporate internet power.

Of course with future IT break throughs maybe everyone will have their own transmitter and reciever making phone lines obsolete. (Far projection, but possible.)

How So? When Graham Bell made the telephone he also made a telephone that used light instead of electricity. Optic Fibers were not even a dream at that point. Now we can bend light around corners all we want.

Besides some of the companies were founded by people pro internet. Yahoo who was founded by to number crazy co-workers. Cisco Systems was made by college grads on different networks that wanted to send love letters so they came up with the router.

Heck think of all the privatized programs that created their competition with their proprietary heads up their asses. Windows full of AOL promos makes Linux. WMP and RealPlayer with their own codecs make Winamp. Even DivX (4 or higher) to Xvid.

The more authority cracks down the more people rebel. For every new law another George Carlin or Marylin Manson. For every corporate blockade on the working man another innovator builds an empire.

Not to mention the Internet is multinational and countries like to argue too much to unite against the freedom of speech on the internet.

The economy of music/ entertainment industry has not suffered one bit over the years while sites like these have been up. So why shut them down? Because all the industries just care about is money. They don't give a damn why the site is up or if it is potential helpful. They are self centered. Until there can be direct proof that our sites like these are causing the industries to loose money/ having their sales drop, then there is no problem.

Again like I have said in the past I have seen new anime here and went out and bought it. I have heard some music I never heard of before and went out and bought that album. I have bought other cd's for the possibility of making a video to one of those songs.

This goes much further than just this site I know. I mean other sites like youtube and so forth are probably going to be shutdown. Youtube I go there to watch music videos that were made by certain bands to get an idea of what they have done with their song.

Anyways its terrible that this is happening, plus everything else that is going on in the world today.

Otohiko: you think the internet is commie? Far from it, it's one of run almost entirely on the corporate backbone networks. Those are FAR from being anything other than highly capitalist. It just happens to not be as obvious to most people.
It's just like the "communism" that was implanted in Russia, China, Cuba, Korea and company. Not Marx's ideal communism, but a system in which few people hold the power and all the rest are equally screwed. In other words, extreme capitalism. But once that becomes official, rebellous movements like ours will be extinct, simply because we pay the big guys fo our web space.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

The world is full of idiots...

I'm not sure about you guys, but I am sure that for every 'honest' member in life, there's probably 3 or more trying to sucker him/her out of something.

Sure we can download digisubs and rip music audio from our amvs or other amvs, [dur], but those of us who like to contribute to the creators will pay their dues and by said source material.

I'm of the 'try before you buy' school of consumers who only use amvs and digisubs for just that... Music is far less bought than anime but I do have my OSTs here and there...

Even though some of us are proud to say 'we don't steal, we pay cause we're not cheap loser $#@!$@!', there are unfortunately more thieves out there who likes gettin' their free stuffshs...

I'm certain though, even with all these thieves, the anime industry and music industry simply won't 'die' and that all this blocking censorship is 'a load of bollocks' in the words of the infamous Abridged Yugi Oh series...
