How bad does an AMV have to be?

Post by Denkyufan » Fri Sep 29, 2006 12:44 am

How bad/cheesy does an AMV have to be to get rated badly. I've uploaded 3 of my video's here so far and they all have averaged around a 3 star average. Out of a scale from 1 to 5, 3 is in the middle and is respectable but nothing to be proud of either... basically mediocre.

That being said, I admit my video's have so far been FAR from perfect and they've been getting 3's. Heck one of mine is under half a minute long and the other under one minute long.

What's the point of this post???

What does it seriously take to get a video panned? It seems sympathy votes (to a lesser degree) and a suggestion you earnstly tried results in a middle of the crowd rating.

So what does it take for a video to REALLY tank and wish it could even come close to reaching 1 1/2 stars?

Seriously, cause I liked to know, not knocking my own video's or anything, I just find it odd

Star rating 2.51, 7,817 hits.

The hit count is probably because the video is associated with some of the bigger names on the site. The opinions and quick comments offer some evidence for that hypothesis.

It has to be this bad in order to receive the kind of response your looking for:

DUH!
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I don't know if the standards are lower because of the abundance of low-quality, fansubbed-sourced, WMM2-produced videos pulling the average of the possible scores down (graded on a curve).

Seriously, you could easily make a 1 or 2 star video. I've given a few 1 or 2 star ratings out before. No sync + fansubs (with subtitles) + DivX logo (the Cartoon Network logo is fun to see) + bad editing + bad concept + no point = why did this video get made? If it looks like there was some effort involved or the basic concept is sound, it can add a star to a bad video's score (essentially bring a 1 star to a 2 star score). Too bad there isn't an option for zero stars (there is at least one video that deserved no stars). I've even kept a few of these bad videos on my HDD, for the "my god, this is bad/slow train wreck" factor. Plus, I generally avoid videos that put up red flags, unless I am really curious about what the editor did with a particular song/anime combo.
Having trouble playing back videos? I recommend: Image

download random new videos. I have rated a lot of videos a 1. Does that make me an ass?

If my impression is "WTF!!?? Where is the timing.. the footage doesn't fit to the music, the visual quality makes me want to cry." I'll give you a one.

One thing that avoids bad star ratings mainly is fanboyism and overly optimistic people. They somehow see quality in the worst of the worst.
