New video: Trying stuff
Ok so I'm going to be making a new video. The footage I have is crappy (field blending AND rainbows!). I managed to fix all this with avisynth but now my script is slow as hell (duh). The thing is I'll probably be doing most of the video in After Effects, which is something I'v never done before. But since I recon AE is like a last step program I'm pretty sure the footage needs to look good when going in or more crap will come out.
Now comes the question: What should I do? Make high quality AVI's (which will take forever since the script reduces the framerate to about 1fps)? Edit using the crappy footage (which I'm not sure will work in AE)? Something else?
Help please...

Have you ever tried the "Bait and Switch" editing methode?
Here is a guide to it:

I just calculated it will take 325 hours to make good avi's for the entire series which is basically 2 weeks non-stopZarxrax wrote:Send in your good footage. If it takes a while, thats just something you have to deal with
Bauzi-and-MAC: I use bait and switch all the time, the problem is I can't use it (I think) because the end results will look like poop in AE

Just make the scripts deinterlaced and cropped/sized to what you're going to use for the final export. Edit with that. Then, when you finish the video, add the rest of the script to the AVS files, then go back into After Effects and export it. The final export will take awhile, but no where near as long as it would if you were to filter and make individual .avi clips.
Or you could always do the swapping method as earlier mentioned.

Simply said: reconsider the method you are using, change your workflow. Make a preplanning of your AMV and convert only the needed scenes into high quality AVIs. That way the conversion time reduces to an acceptable amount. Both methods, bait and switch or editing with only deinterlaced AVS scripts, make it hard to impossible to judge on certain effects and to tweak the settings.

It still may take a good 30 or 40 hours after you clip (batch encode the clips) so you may have to find something else to do in the meantime, but it's simply another step in the process. If you want a basis for comparison, the video i'm currently working on had over 200 hours of work put into it before I actually started editing.

That's what I do.devilmaykickass wrote:Just make the scripts deinterlaced and cropped/sized to what you're going to use for the final export. Edit with that. And the last part of what Keeper of Hellfire said is bullshit. I've fucked around with effects and been able to tweak them no problem with smooth playback. Jumping to such hasty generalizations shows such close mindedness. Maybe they just have a sucky computer so playback is sucky as well. Doing basic conversions to lossless huffuyv or legarith has slower playback than just using a basic script like devilmaykickass suggested, at least for me.
Quotes for truth=ultimate winner statement period.. well that's sorta like putting "it's just" in the beginning of a sentence for explanation of what something is. Do that and you could make anything seem like nothing. "it's just a car".. "it's just a few lives".. "it's just your entire CD collection"

What I said is neither a generalization nor deceptive. If you read carefully you'll find out that I said certain efffects, not all. Your the one who is making generalizations. My statement is true for effects that depend on luma/chroma information since they're screwed up if the footage used for editing hasn't the same chroma/luma information as the footage used for final export. And that's valid as well for the bait and switch method as for editing with AVS scripts without filter chain. Seems like you never used such effects, because I experienced such problems.x_rex30 wrote:I apologies.. I'll state what I said in a different way..x_rex30 wrote:Jumping to such hasty generalizations shows such close mindedness.
IMO the last thing of what Keeper of Hellfire said is deceptive.
I was neither talking about smooth playback nor about tweaking the timing. I talked about adjusting the effect settings.x_rex30 wrote:I've fucked around with effects and been able to tweak them no problem with smooth playback.
