Yes it violated the safe guidelines... And the scaling is just enough to be annoying in that case.

I'll say from my experience is most software playback can handle the animorphic flag quite well, I tested this significantly with Tekkoshocon's contest. Any modern projector should handle it just fine, and if you rent them like most cons they tend to be relatively up to date. Depends on the equipment companies though. With many standard home dvd's being animorphic, there was a necessity for projectors to at least be able to handle it appropriately. If you are doing all of your playback through the card then your hands might be tied.

As I said it's not a huge issue but is rather annoying since I am constantly fumbling with the display to make the best use of the screen. Only now is it becoming more common and obviously if I wasn't playing them back with the equipment I wouldn't know better. Mostly something to consider in the future since mentioning it is the only way for it to get out there. Once it is possible to do the flagging though, it would be very nice.

At the same time I believe the AWA folks use the NetStream 2000 for video output. Since it is a hardware decoder and not a software one, you're limited by the specifications of the hardware. the NS2k cannot do 16:9. That is very reason why I have to have all the entried encoded to 4:3 before playing them at Acen.

I'm sure there are ways to output to 16:9. My GeForce supports those resoltions, however the NS2k along with Quu's program makes it much easier to manipulate playlists and queue up videos while videos are already being played.
Gimme a minute, I'll make a cool one....

That's the same reason why I encode everything into 4:3 as well fopr my contests, as the Netstream 2000/4000 are NTSC 4:3 cards...

Unless my eyes deceive me, don't the descenders on characters like "y," "j," etc, actually extend down into the letterboxing? Look at 00:43 ("Chicago") for example. That being the case, it seems that any method of limiting the display to 16:9 is going to cut it off, because the source video depends on being displayed at 4:3 to show correctly...

bump

What happened to all the pro discussion / gossip anyway? We had such a lively thread last year debating 26 minute videos and such. Now voting is almost over and ... pthhh. Just a lot of private or semi private grumbling.... "too much drama" "comedy is dead" "too many weird videos" "not enough weird videos" ... "I can't believe video X didn't get nominated" ... "I can't believe video Y did get nominated" ...

Why not get it out in the open? Say it now and say it proud! Afflict your friends, comfort your enemies, or however it turns out...

Dunno what happened really. I foudn that Hypeodermic Studios had a thread going on their forum where people talked about the videos, but that was it. Sucks that there aren't more people talkin about videos they liked, cause I wanna get an idea how well my video did.

True although the problems thread might not be the best place to do it.
