Restructuring of Video Help Forums
Due to recent suggestions made in this thread: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=71879
we have decided to restructure these forums to make them more helpful.
Possible new forums include:
-Capturing/Ripping (Questions and discussion about capturing/ripping footage from DVDs, VHS, or other sources go here)
-AviSynth (For help and discussion about AviSynth filtering and scripts)
-Compression/Encoding (For help and discussion concerning compression and encoding those pesky videos)
-Adobe Software (Discussion and help related to Adobe video software goes here. e.x. Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, etc.)
-Windows Movie Maker (For help and discussion concerning Windows Movie Maker)
-Other Video Editing Systems (For all help and discussion about video editing systems that aren’t included in another forum, such as Magix, Vegas, etc.)
-Video Hardware Help and Discussion (Need help with some new hardware? Ask here!)
-General Video (For miscellaneous questions and discussion that doesn’t fall into one of the other categories)
Please post any suggestions or further ideas that you might have here!
11/7: Added better category descriptions.

Re: Restructuring of Video Help Forums
It might be better to rename this to "Miscellaneous Questions" and put it at the bottom of the list. That might get people to use subject-specific boards first.Tsunami Jones wrote:-General Video
I'd like to see proposed descriptions for these categories, because there's otherwise the potential for a lot of overlap. Perhaps something like "Avisynth filtering and scripting help" for AviSynth, and "Video compression discussion and help" for Compression/Encoding?-AviSynth
-Compression/Encoding
It may be better to rename this to "Other Video Editing Systems".-General Editing Suite Software

For this, in the description of the forum would be something to do with discussion and the answering of questions. Moving it to the bottom.trythil wrote:It might be better to rename this to "Miscellaneous Questions" and put it at the bottom of the list. We don't have any descriptions down yet (waiting for feedback/other ideas etc.), but that sounds quite good.Trythil wrote:I'd like to see proposed descriptions for these categories, because there's otherwise the potential for a lot of overlap. Done. That's much betterTrythil wrote: It may be better to rename this to "Other Video Editing Systems".

I think you should call it 'Capturing/Ripping' instead of just capturing.
'Adobe Software' instead of just Adobe.
'Other Video Editing Software' instead of systems. Systems makes it sound like a whole computer or something, and might confuse someone.
Question: What happens to the current "video software help"? Pruned? Merged to general video?

Maybe calling the forum 'Capturing And DVD Ripping' would reduce confusion.Tsunami Jones wrote:What would it cover (besides authoring), that wouldn't fall under Capturing?trythil wrote:A board titled "Using DVDs" would be really helpful.
Also suggesting that the name or description of the AviSynth forum be extended to cover VirtualDubMod.

On the "Other video editing systems" I want to try and make it specific to other editing suites. Just calling it editing software implies quite a bit more than that.Zarxrax wrote: 'Other Video Editing Software' instead of systems. Any other suggestions on that?
As to the old video software help, the idea at the moment was to relocate important/recent threads to the new forums, allowing members to request that specific threads be moved out. After that, I was thinking that we lock the forum, but leave it visible as an archive.
That's what the Capturing forum would be for. Like Zarx and Melanchthontrythil wrote:I was thinking that it'd be a great place to put stickies about DVD ripping.
suggested, ripping has been added to the title as it was left off

Keep it simple.
Video Hardware help
Video Software help
Audio Hardware help
Audio Software help
Links to guides.
I think that if you start creating a thousand subdirectories it'll just dilute the responses.
