CAN WE MAKE SOME NEW SUBBOX ???
This forum is very big(one of the biggest forums i've seen i guess) and it is very hard to find what we need in here. If we post a new topic to ask about a problem, then i think we get mor screw than advice. But it is very hard to find something in this forum. There are boxes which have more than 100 pages, and i dont think i can make it
So i suggest maybe we should have some subbox in the main box. Example, in General video should have subboxes like Adobe Premiere, Vegas Video, WMMaker... or the AMV Anouncement and AMV Suggestion should have subboxes like Comedy, action, parody....
What do u guys think ?

The search feature works pretty well once you get skilled with it. Only problem is the number of idiots who don't know how to properly name a thread. Oh, and there are [http://www.big-boards.com/highlight/1233/]1475 message boards bigger than this one[/url]

We have all sorts of very specific and well-named sticky threads to help new people find the answers to the exact questions they want to ask. Yet they miss them consistently. If it's confusing now, just imagine how much worse it would be if we had even more subtopics inside each section of the forum.
Ex: They don't see the very first bold-print thread in 'video software help' that says "AMV Free/Open Source Software Lists". How are they going to find the 'software-specific' subforum that says "WMM"?
Adding more options and a little fine-tuning on the search function would have better results than breaking the forum into more pieces.

I agree with canikizu, and think that it would be beneficial to have some more forums, particularly for video help (im not sure if that was exactly what he was suggesting, but I think so).
As this site is frequented primarily by amateurs, there is a lot of incorrect terminoligy being used, or people asking the wrong questions. As a consequence, this diminishes the usefulness of the search function. Combined with the unwritten rules of this community that it is better to start a new thread than to revive an old one, the search results become amazingly cluttered and useless.
Currently so far as the video forums go, we have
- General Video
- Video Hardware Help
- Video Software Help
I would recommend a restructuring along these lines:
- General Video
- Compression/Encoding
- AviSynth
- Adobe Premiere
- Adobe After Effects
- Sony Vegas
- Windows Movie Maker
- Video Hardware Help
This would allow for more, better targetted sticky threads, it would make the search function more useful by targetting threads into more descriptive categories, and would allow more opportunity for the people familiar in a particular area to help answering questions.
It's often pointed out that forum descriptions and stickies are useless, because people frequently dont read them. This is a fallacy however, because you obviously aren't going to know about the multitudes of people who actually DID read and found the material useful.
And wtf is up with "General Video" and "Video Software Help"? Does anyone even know what the difference is between these two forums? People post the same types of questions to either one interchangably. This further confuses things, because maybe someone will enter one of them and look around to see if there is a sticky about something they need to know. As it turns out, there may very well be a sticky, but in the other forum, which they didn't check. Not to mention the problems that these two seperate forums causes when you want to search...
So yes, we DEFINATELY NEED more video help forums, and fix the overlap that we have now!

Sounds good, but since adobe is a big part of the community, I think subforums for photoshop, premiere, and after effects under a adobe forum would make more sense. Would avisynth share some similarities with the wiki? The suggested processing chain, while it may appear lazy, I think in the end ('it doesn't even matter', people are going to make sucky videos) the general quality of the videos coming out would improve. Maybe a sticky with suggested processing?
3d animation? It seems like its starting to come into the community more.
....
Of course, then one has to consider WHO browses the forum, and acknowledge that all of this still won't help the illiterate. Identify by nation and then all americans must pass a spelling test?

Well, the forum selection would be based more on popularity. For instance, there are a large number of threads that relate to Avisynth, so it would make sense to have a seperate forum for them. I don't see much of anyone asking about Photoshop or 3d animation, so seperate forums for that would not be necessary. You could just post in "General Video" which would serve as a catch-all for anything that doesnt fit in another category.
And on that matter, you can't go a third level deep, like Video Help>Adobe>Premiere, you need to keep it down to two levels as it is currently, like Video Help>Adobe Premiere.
Maybe an After Effects forum would be unnecessary at this point, though I think there has been an increase in the number of posts regarding it lately. But my point is, any specific topics which tend to get a lot of threads would benefit from a seperate forum.
